I thoroughly enjoyed the game the other night. Aalborg were a good side (who'd already knocked out sampdora) who treated like their cup final. When watching the game again on Sky+ it was clear that we actually played pretty well most of the game. Even in the first half we had plenty of possession and put some balls into their box. Despite our usual defensive generosity and a determined and decent side we still managed to turn it round and win.

Sometimes you just have to say well the fuck done. There is something about this squad. It has ability and determination and deserves some credit.

Some of us forget what a pile of wank we watched for years.

I get what you are saying about the team and when I look back at the games we have played so far, there is only the Everton game and the Newcastle game(even though they are a crap side)that we really did'nt deserve anything from. However for Spurs to be a top side, I still think we need 7 more players,3 if possible in January and the rest in the summer.

I agree. Although they sometimes make you want to throw your legs off the top of the nearest high building, we have something.

Now if Juande can be the first Spurs manager ever to get us to play attractive attacking football and defend at the same time we'll have struck gold.

well said. I find myself agreeing with every post in this thread. I do think we have something, that's pretty obvious but I also believe we need to invest in a couple of players (although seven is a bit off the mark). I have every faith in Ramos, I think he's on his way to being a Spurs Legend.

Spurs have loads of attacking options but are atrocious on defense. This club wont compete for the top 4 with the personnel currently on the roster. Who knows if Ledley will ever be fully fit. Dawson may have a role, and is currently the best CB playing, but go back and look at the second Aalsborg goal. Kaboul - see West Ham miscue. The Korean dude shouldnt be starting on a top flight EPL outfit. I dont know what to think about Chimbonda - he has a role to play but is often out nof position, and by attacking down the right flank he's actually doing Lennons job, which Lennon is fully capable of doing. Bale is wonderful on his runs and set pieces, and is very young so he has to stay, but the jury's out on his defensive prowess. Face it, we need to upgrade with at least two defensive acquisitions.

Come now SS57, I don't think I could cope with that.

yep - as I said straight after the game - it was a tremendous match and a true Euro glory night.

I can't ever remember us winning a Euro game (as opposed to a tie) from two goals down before.

I'll be happy if we can play as a team, even though we score lots of goals they're rarely team goals

I to agree this squad has the makings of something good. With Ramos hopefully he can get the best qualities out of the players...already IMO (although I've always rated Zokora) Zokora looks much better and controlled in his play and Chimbonda has proved he can play well as a centre back.

I;m still hoping in the Jan transfer window we buy a few key players IE a goal keeper and experience defender.

The key difference I have detected so far is that JJ has remembered that he is actually a flair player and is taking risks in the final third. In the past year Zokora has generally been our surging player, although quite rarely and with no end result. JJ doing this is a different proposition and he looks class doing it. From what I have seen so far Ramos has ultimately a shit or bust attitude if things are not going well and he will not die wondering if he tried everything in the book. Well done.
PS How many cliches is that in one sentence?

Are you kidding me with "the Korean dude"? Be honest - was the Aalborg game, playing right back, the only time you've ever seen him play?

I guarantee you there's plenty of clubs in the Premiership where Lee could slot right in. He's looked very good so far this year - granted he looked rough at right back on Thursday.

YP Lee's been one of our most consistent performers this term, despite playing out of his favoured position the whole time, until the other night anyway. At the moment he'd be one of the first names on my team sheet.

Left back is his favored position, despite him being right-footed. And I agree, he's been very good, until the other night - and he certainly wasn't the worst of the back line then.

Fair enough - I'd always assumed he'd played right back previous to joining Spurs. But you're right - he wasn't the worst defender the other night, by far.

Lee is a good LB - but not a good RB - I said tbefore the game when I saw the team sheet that's the first time I'd had serious doubts about his selections - it was a mistake but JR rectified it tremendously well at half time.

The central defence is where the problems lie. Michael Dawson days are numbered at Spurs, even if we have a 10 games-a-season Ledley King.
