Good money, I know it sounds weird, but I don't want it to all go on players.

We don't need wholesale changes.

I agree.

If we get good money for Keane, Jenas, Hutton, O'Hara, Dos Santos (£35m) we probably would only need another £20m to fully strengthen the squad.

hopefully with the new TV money coming in from abroad etc next year should see record revenues for spurs

of course we'll probably spend more too - it's just a case of balancing it all out

Which would be £5.3m better off finishing 4th than 5th going by the figures in the OP.

This ^^^^ (and as kcmei was saying)

I don't expect a big spending spree (and don't want one) but this is my take on it.

This extra £5m will immediately be gobbled up by the new deals we've given to several players over the last few months. Remember that £19k a week is a million a year. By the sounds of it we've just given Bale alone a £25k-a-week rise

Also, a smart businessman like Levy will not be fooled by the increase in Premiership TV revenue from new overseas rights. He'll know that the other (dickhead) clubs in the Prem will spend it on wages and ultimately that will feed through to the deals that we will have to offer to buy/keep players - so it will just become part of costs within a season or two

I also suspect that Levy will try to claw back some of the spending that he's funded over the past few windows. That doesn't mean we will simply sell this window but there will prob be some impact. i.e. if say the long-tem average would be to provide £15m in a season he'll only do £5m or if we sell players for £25m he'll want £10m of it back

We have to get through the quali round before we get the guaranteed £15m or so from the group stages. This is key - 'Arry will probably be given that to spend and a chunk of any sales.

This window will all be about identifying 2-3 top quality targets and the money will be there for the right players

the oney we receive now is irrelevant, it has to be taken into context with:
1) how much we received last year
2) timing of the payments
3) current o/s liabilities
4) timing of payments on new deals
5) cashflow demand of existing capex
6) level of monies expected versus budget - if we are where we broadly hoped we would be then there is no real increase in funds as the fringe players we reatined during a non euro year were likely to be paid of by speculation

net spend will not be in the region of 40m thats for sure, id be suprised if we net spend over 15-18, i expect some to leave (ohara/jenas etc) to top it up

Both Citeh and Liverpool earned more than us from the premier league this year from all sources by virtue of being shown on the tellybox more often that us. That excludes any income from Europe as well.

Surely it's only the 'extra' money for getting fourth and in the CL we should be excited about.

I suspect a lot of the players will be picking up a bonus for finishing in the top 4 this season and I doubt Bale will be the only one to get a pay rise, so some of that extra money is going to be gone straight away. As Adam456 says, we've also got some other big projects to fund. I'm hoping the money will be there for one really big signing (£20m plus) and maybe a couple of other additions to the squad, but we don't need to spend heavily imo.

If Portsmouth goes tits up then the extra 5 million or so that we made will just get eaten up writing off that debt.

That's a lot of money, the question is does that money not go back into players wages/bonuses/stadium development etc.

If it goes on the transfer kitty then we have an exciting summer ahead me thinks.

I may be wrong, but that money will probably just about cover wages for one year.

Football creditors get paid

They wont go tits up, they will just have to sell everybody and not spend much of the parachute payments

I love arbitrary valuations.

How in the world did you come to that figure nick?

8m for Keane and Jenas
6m for Hutton, O'Hara and Dos Santos

£34m

Give or take a million i think it's realistic. Levy NEVER loses money on players.

A couples of goals from Gio at the World Cup and I bet Levy could wring £8m out of someone for him!
