They actually told the FA before the call up, that they were not interested in playing international football.

It's the media spin, to carry on with the bad feeling after the world cup.

Any player with any sense at the age of 30 will not want to be travelling around the world for meaningless friendlies, when they are not in the starting line up. For a 3rd choice goalkeeper, it's absolutely the right thing for Robbo to do.

Same for Wes, not realy a starter, meaningless games etc etc.

Fuck, I was kinda hoping Terry, Lampard, Gerrard and Barry would announce their retirement from international footbal too!

Good, don't want any fringe players over 30 anywhere near the side, obviously we need experience, but that can come from the top level pros. The youngsters should be being groomed as understudies to eventually claim a first team place.

Its so easy to blame the manager (Capello) but his record is superb. The players just are not as good as people claim. To me it subs up there attitude retiring after being picked POOR!

Wes Brown even playing for England highlights a serious lack of strength in depth in English football. His 'retirement' should be rejoiced as quite frankly he's cack!

Robbo on the other hand i'm disappointed about. Keepers never hit their peak until later in their careers and last season showed that he was on his way back to top form. I still think that its important to have an experienced head in and around the team and Green isn't that man and James has had his day.

Why would Capello call them up then if they'd already informed the FA not to bother? :think:

Lampard aside pray you must be mad mate, Barry does a good job for the team and Gerrard would be far better if actually allowed to play centrally without Lampard to mess up the balance.

Robbo should have tried harder as he could have got back in if he managed to prove he was good enough.

Joe Hart's position at Man City is precarious and Ben Foster is there for the taking if Robbo had been up for it and got himself back to his bestest best.

I should rephrase what I typed.

Robinson (not so much brown), didn't need to announce retirement from international football, because they were not involved in international football.

When he was called, he turned the offer down.

Then, the squad was announced, with his name on, after the discussions had taken place about him not being in the squad.

Just a lot has been made out of it, he doesn't want to be 3rd choice, travelling a lot and wasting a lot of time, with no end result.

Probably same as brown.
