I'm not pointing the finger at any one particular person or persons...but cut it anyway you like...if we wish to be recognised as a top premiership club we should not be losing these type of matches. I have been nervous about this fixture all week and rightly so as it turns out. Deeply disappointed but not unduly surprised....

Wage restrictions and thus allowing to buy winners is the only thing that will take us to the next level with exception of the hope of the odd season where all the big hitters fail ie Leicester season, poch is doing well with the tools levy gives him

And to rub salt into the wounds Southampton are winning which will send West Brom down so their win was meaningless. We will have lost to a relegated team. Football eh?

So Poch is not upset or angry after losing this crucial game. Yesterday Mourinho was seething after losing a meaningless game. I am afraid this may go a long way to explaining why one wins trophies and the other does not. Poch needs to get a grip and bang some heads together. The players need to show some pride. How many times do Chelsea need to stick two fingers up at them before they show some fight. Unless something drastic changes they will be laughing at us again. It was telling that on Monday Watford showed more fight than us. I have always defended us against allegations of bottling but the situation is now becoming indefensible. Maybe we have to bite the bullet and recruit players with more character than the ones we currently have. Sadly these tend to be the players who demand the larger salaries and are out of our reach. We tend to only be able get those who don’t quite cut the mustard.

Joke of a performance today, and its been coming - we have been poor since Chelsea away.
We were very lucky on Monday night and if Chelsea win tomorrow, we are bang in trouble as I don't see us getting 6 from the next 2 given our current form.

Finish 5th and some serious questions need to be asked as this happens too often to us, it cant just be bad luck
It's the same situation as the semi final farce it is not about luck because it happens when we have a chance to do something that we struggle with the levels of expectation.
Liverpool will probably finish third but at the same time be champions of Europe we on the other hand just can't win one poxy semi-final final, and has been the case lately whilst Liverpool have dropped point's we decide to shit ourselves at the thought of overtaking them so we don't.

Problem is Son, Lamela, Dele have all been equally shit

Equally? They have no outlet. I have never seen our players get the ball so little to Kane when we dominate possession.

This is not a dig at Kane, he is clearly not fit. We were fine without Kane, we should have played without Kane.

Perhaps we need someone - manager or more likely first team squad players to take us to the next level. I don’t want Poch to necessarily go but ... if he can’t take us to that next level he may feel he needs to go. I’m sure Daniel won’t get rid of him so the alternative is to invest in quality players which suit our style which I thought was intensive pressing and fast counter attacks. Precious little of either in the last few games cf Liverpool who do both very well .... unfortunately.

Poch is showing some issues but given how bloody far he’s taken us, would be nice for him to get some real backing, in business terms he has clearly made money for the club. We must have made a shitload this year, ticket prices through the roof..

I guess you can’t necessarily blame that on today and I don’t know why we need 7 defensive players on the pitch against West Brom..but it is again clear that we are lacking that last level to get a trophy. Mawson and Bertrand are emphatically not going to take us there though so..

Agree that this can happen - it does at the same time however emphasize our need for more guile, pace and variety in our attacking play. Something we have to try and address this upcoming transferwindow.

Guile, definitely. Pace wouldn’t have made any difference when the game is compressed into their third.

Our players are good enough, Son has played up front in several spells and performed, our problem is either Kane in saying he is fit when clearly not or Poch believes he is fit. It’s all bullshit we should be beating West Brom without Kane.

A change of tactic from Poch would also be nice, may not be popular but if you can’t play through a team you could maybe at least try going over or around it.

Fuck me, just remembered why I don't read the match thread. Knees jerking so much there's movement on the Richter scale. We lost to a scrappy goal against a team literally fighting for their Premiership lives. We had the chances to win it and were poor in the final 3rd but every team (maybe bar City) struggle against 11 behind the ball teams, it's football.

We've beaten Real Madrid & Liverpool (the CL finalists) this season ffs, if we don't get 4th, people are entitled to throw some toys out of prams but we've got two middle team nothing to play for teams to go and if Chelsea lose to Liverpool tomorrow, only need to win one (in fact a draw should be enough).

Southampton knobbled by a referee biased to a Scouse team, as per usual. I hope West Brom do go down. They always seem to give us problems so it would be good to see the back of them. Also, I get pissed off by their celebrity fans.

If we don't beat Leicester & Newcastle, two teams who have nothing to play for, at all, I will be furious.
Days like to today can happen but it seems to happen to us far too often whenever something is on the line and that's concerning. Concerning in that it tells you either the players don't have what it takes 'mentally' or Poch doesn't quite have that ability to keep the players going. I suppose in Poch's case, you could always argue that he needs more resources. I'm not saying for one second I want him gone, I just have concerns, which may prove to be unfounded.

I do think Poch needs to take a serious look at the squad and transfers in, scrap throwing 200m on adding potential world class players, bring in some winners. Players who know how to drag the others over the line.

Secondly, I don't think Kane was rushed back, I don't think he's still suffering from that ankle knock, I think it's simply down to mentality - he's not relaxed. If you rewind your mind back to the Bournemouth game and the one before it, he was snatching at chances, he looked stiff and wasn't as fluid as he can be, we immediately improved our attacking display as soon as he went off. I think it's simply a continuation of that. He's not relaxed, and when a striker is not relaxed they tend to try to force a goal rather than show composure.

I don't know if it's the golden boot chase or the reaction from it but he's not calm in his mind and it's affecting his all round game, which in turn is effecting our all round game. I think he needs to relax and forget about beating Salah. Or Poch needs to think about dropping him and return to the attack that looked so fluid.

Thirdly, time to be ruthless. Some players have been great but perhaps they are not the level required to help us win stuff. I admire Lamela's drive and his attitude and I've never contemplated selling him before, I also believe he adds something to our attack. However, it certainly isn't goals, he just doesn't pose enough of a threat to the opposition GK. It's a shame but I think we need to be brutally honest here.

Here's how i view the team.

Would Lamela, Sissoko, Son, Trippier, Llorente, Rose, Davies or Dembele get into a Chelsea, United, Liverpool or God forbid Arsenal side?

If anyone thinks that they would then we need to keep them, if not we will rinse and repeat unless they are shipped out. I fear that we will be looking to recruit similar in Mawson (i have been told) and the like, and an odd Korean who even their military won't pick up on conscription.

I understand the clubs transfer philosophy but we should be able to financially compete next season with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

Blind faith, playing youth and a cheap as chips transfer policy takes you as far when it really matters as we witnessed today.
How do you think we can compete financially with Liverpool, let alone Arsenal, at the moment?

Kane coming back into the team immediately might well cost us Champions League. Incredible.

Yet the abuse I got for not selecting him in the team for United thread, when it was painfully obvious he wasn't fit.

Mugs lol.

Yes they are because such results are unexpected...we unfortunately have a tendency to lose to these lower clubs particularly towards the end of the season when the stakes and rewards are extremely high. I was genuinely nervous about this game as were a few others on here...I should have been confident and then shocked....not trepidatious and then have my doubts confirmed. It happens too often is what I am saying....sadly.

Does it, at the end of the season?

What?
