Didn't get to see the game today, so I can't comment on the way we played etc.

But I'm confused. A few weeks ago we had quite a few on here stating that they'd be much happier if they saw us with some attacking intent, even if we lost more. Well I've checked the Premier League website who show that we dominated every measurable stat except the final score. They had 4 shots, all on target, we had 20 with 7 on target. We dominated possession almost 70/30, had more corners, better territory, better xG, better everything except goals

Yet those same people who claimed they'd be happy to see this kind of attacking intent, even if we lost, are the ones on here screaming once again for the managers head.

Surely you must be happy now? He's doing exactly what you wanted isn't he?

I mean, God forbid there could ever be an agenda here...
How can you base an argument on a game you havent seen. :ROFLMAO: stats are stats. Can be used to make whatever point you want.

We did show more attacking intent but not really till we were already 2 nil down and majority of our shots were from outside the box and were lucky to stay in the stadium so will have made us look more dominate than we were, saying that we did play some nice football in the last 30 minutes. Shame about the dross that came before it.

Dier has terrible positional sense from being moved back and forth from CB and DM and he can't defend the cross

He looks like Phil Jones right now
I totally agree, I've never particularly rated Dier but he's played better than this. Sanchez has played better than this. Aurier has played better than he did before he got dropped. As much as I would replace all of them, I still think they're better than they're currently showing. I think it's too easy to say they're just shit when there are managers doing a lot more with a lot less, that's all. I'm sure every manager would love to say "ah fuck it, replace them all" but have to work with what they have.

I know it won't be a popular thing to say but I think there's still a player inside Sanchez. He just desperately needs the direction of a player like Toby or Jan and he doesn't have that any more.

I think there is more concern as attacking football has never been Joses game. He's a tactical mastermind but the attacking football has always been underwhelming from him. Hence why most clubs are happy to see the back of him when he's gone. I'm not sure he is able to mix it up and get the results required as attacking football and a low block don't really go hand in hand. He is going to have to evolve fast if he has a philosophical blueprint to attack and im not sure he has one.

People also need to realise that Jose is an extremely divisive figure/coach and both sides have valid points so to scream agenda etc every time someone disagrees with your personal views (not you personally) is lacking awareness. Both sides of the coin have valid pros and cons.

For me I watch football to be entertained. I don't care all that much about grabbing one of the 4 trophies at the end of the season. They are just a glimpse of time and hold no real substance to us fans imo (if you care so much about trophies from your sports team you should check your life and try and find value elsewhere). I care more about us having a go in an entertaining way and enjoying the ride. This ride has been rather unenjoyable to say the least.

No European footy next season. Our piss poor defenders and regular moments of stupidity means there’s no way we’ll finish above 8th position. Cant see us win the league cup or getting past last 16 in Europa either, again because we have players who can’t do the basics and are too stupid to be coached to improve.

wonder how many years it’s been since we didn’t have European football

I'm sorry, but the defensive issues are not entirely separate from coaching and they are interlinked. Nor is lack of confidence not interlinked with management. I mean it is possible he turns it around but it's simplistic to say the manager is prevented from doing his job because of the low quality of player. This would be fine, if we were, say, on midtable form, we are not. In 12 games we have 3 wins 2 draws 7 losses, that's 11 points in 12 games, which is 35 points a season, relegation form, and about half of the point total we should be aiming for as a minimum. It's not acceptable with the team we have, even the defenders we have. What's worse is the three teams we beat were two promoted sides and the bottom team in the table.

The players are underperforming, it's a major part of a managers job to fix that, I don't buy this excuse that we need new players to do a proper job, maybe for CL ok that can pass, maybe even, at a stretch, to finish 6th, but the form we are in is beyond that.

Yeah I agree I think they can be better coached, I said that our players should be playing better than what they are showing. I just think that some of these players have mentally checked out and/or don't have the confidence, whether that's down to the them or the manager is up for debate.

Have to say that earlier in the season these defenders were getting praised to high heaven, Dier was one of our best players, obviously they were being baby sat by Sissoko and Hojbjerg in front of them but the defensive unit including the defenders generally looked more comfortable so the question is how can they go from how they performed earlier in the season to how they play now?

I personally think we do need new players because quite a few of them haven't been up to the task even before Jose came in.

If we had Pope Tarkowski Mee we would keep clean sheets. Embarrssing to think Burnley have a better collective trio than us

They defend as a team, in fact people were calling us the rich man's Burnley when we were stinking the place out earlier in the season.

I would say we're in the bottom 5/6 of the league in terms of CB pairings. Three out of the four are definitely not Prem quality.
That's complete rubbish, particularly when we don't actually concede many goals, our problem is just as much scoring goals then conceding them, and finding that balance. Dier is an England international, Alderweirld is a starter in the top ranked international team, Sanchez, again international pedigree, has been involved in good defences for us in the past and Rodon, some see as the answer, on the basis that he hasn't played a lot but he's got a lot to grow into.

I'm not saying they are the best defenders in the world, or even in the top of the PL, but it's utterly absurd to say they aren't Prem quality, it's also a cop out greater issues, and to also consider, a lot of the issues with the goals conceded are team-related, like Son today not closing down the crosser effectively. The first goal was actually a good goal mind, no shame in conceding, the second a lot less so!

FWIW, very difficult to judge Dele with less than 15mins playing time while they had 10 men behind the ball.

Mourinho continues to set the boy up to fail.

I guess nobody will be saying how well we have done in the rest of the departments apart from the results. But oh well, if that is not even a tiny wee bit of improvement for some, but instead still see the gaffer has lost the players, I have nothing to say.

I do think Jose has mis-managed him. He should've been getting on the pitch every game, just to allow him to get sharp and push himself. He'd get 60 mins vs Stoke and then not play any return mins in the league - players can't just magically turn it on.
I am not a Jose fan but I have to defend him here. No way was Bale ready to start or play for us consistently. Bale is just coming to the required fitness. Giving him games over fitter all beit less talented players would have been a bad move. Yes he is ready now, he wasnt then. Not playing Bale was not the problem. The fact that we topped the table without him for a few weeks says it all

Thats the issue. When we were parking 10 behind the ball like West Ham did today, people criticised him forJose football. When he started pushing further ahead and the gaps in defence started appearing then it’s “not well drilled“. This same defence got Poch sacked. And is it just me or has Lloris become a wreck. He stays on his line and simply lets things past. Cost us Liverpool, Everton, City and i think could have done better to claim the first one today
That's the thing though, I don't think it's too much to ask for one of the greatest coaches of all time to develop a better defensive structure than simply putting everyone behind the ball. Anyone could do that, that's not what you pay big money for.

Just proves how wasteful we are. What is that in us? It's been that way for as long as I can remember.

Jose needs to get Toby and rodon into a room and tell them you will both start the next 10 leagues games. Study each others game and work with ledley

Seems most in here aren’t even angry or annoyed at the defeat like previous weeks. We’ve just got used to it under this manager now
