We actually paid £70m for Sanchez and Sissoko.

It's so harsh to say this because Sissoko is such a good guy and has always been a servant to the club in terms of attitude but he's one of our worst ever signings. Not because he's the worst player we've ever signed, he's ok, but he somehow has this hold over managers that they feel the need to play him. He brings the quality of the whole side down, negates any attacking football and prevents us from starting better players or buying better players. It's an absolute disaster of a signing.

Didn’t deserve to lose that match today. Sloppy start, shit defending from Dier (Lloris hardly showered himself in glory either) and again for the second goal, awful from Doherty initially, then Dier defended like a 10 year old (as per).

Pierre wasn’t great, Tanguy got doubled up on, Son was poor by his standards, Kane didn’t look fit at all. Lamela MOM first half, Bale second

On another day we win that but when your licks out, it’s well and truly out.

Worst day of my life. My sister’s just rang me to say my dad has collapsed and the paramedics think he’s had a heart attack... on his way to hospital but I’m not allowed to go. He’s just had his final chemo session and now this has happened

FWIW, very difficult to judge Dele with less than 15mins playing time while they had 10 men behind the ball.

Mourinho continues to set the boy up to fail.

I'm more disappointed that in some of the few times he did get the ball, he decided to do flicks and tricks and ultimately lose the ball.

Just proves how wasteful we are. What is that in us? It's been that way for as long as I can remember.
And how unlucky we are as well. Hitting the posts and bar left right centre, ball not bobbling in, offside traps are not even marginal for VAR to draw lines and gave us some benefit of doubts haha ?‍♂️

Seems most in here aren’t even angry or annoyed at the defeat like previous weeks. We’ve just got used to it under this manager now

I don't really feel anything negative anymore really, still get massively excited when we score or play good footy. I just don't really feel anything if we concede or or lose matches. I guess the frustration of seeing the side sent out with their hands tied behind their backs time and again is the most negative thing I still get. The feeling of never getting to see what this side can really do.

All the emotion over results though burnt out earlier in the season when it was 100% clear where Mourinho was going with the side. It was stop caring or stop watching.

I am not a Jose fan but I have to defend him here. No way was Bale ready to start or play for us consistently. Bale is just coming to the required fitness. Giving him games over fitter all beit less talented players would have been a bad move. Yes he is ready now, he wasnt then. Not playing Bale was not the problem. The fact that we topped the table without him for a few weeks says it all
No he wasn't, I agree.

But he had that 'preseason' of EL games and a few sub appearances.

Once he'd got past those he should have been playing week in week out to get rhythm and confidence.

Instead since December, he's been given 60 mins, then zero mins, etc etc. You can see he was starting to feel his way back but then doesn't get to follow it up.

Only now, when Jose has decided that he was wrong and needs to play Bale and Dele as much as possible, have they started to play regularly and look sharper. No surprise.

Play quality players, give them confidence and a platform to get on with it.

Zidane treated Bale like a scapegoat, wrongly or rightly, but he basically ignored him and that obviously killed Bale's confidence.

Jose needed to feed Bale with confidence and encouragement from the start. Instead he told him he wanted more before he gives him game time. We only have Bale for this season, so why be patient with him and challenge him? This isn't a player who needs challenging....he's a player who needs a positive mindset and belief.

In the meantime we played others who couldn't match his quality and output.

In general players do need to earn their place in the team. But when you have quality like Bale, you make exceptions.

I disagree. Dele is his own enemy. Those ten minutes he gave away and broke up our good play twice with his naff flicks which did not work

Yeah I think his time is up with us unfortunately...players to be realistically shipped out at the end of the season,:
Dele Alli
Sissoko
Lucas or Lamela (get some kind of return)
Winks
Hugo Lloris
Doherty (what a waste)

Yeah I agree I think they can be better coached, I said that our players should be playing better than what they are showing. I just think that some of these players have mentally checked out and/or don't have the confidence, whether that's down to the them or the manager is up for debate.

Have to say that earlier in the season these defenders were getting praised to high heaven, Dier was one of our best players, obviously they were being baby sat by Sissoko and Hojbjerg in front of them but the defensive unit including the defenders generally looked more comfortable so the question is how can they go from how they performed earlier in the season to how they play now?

I personally think we do need new players because quite a few of them haven't been up to the task even before Jose came in.
They don't have the confidence, that's not an unsolvable problem. If it's a collective issue, not an individual one it is inevitably not something that is beyond the control from the manager. Moving out of that can be difficult, but it's possible.

Indeed, I think as you say partly it's because we've opened up, and the balance is wrong, partly I think chopping and changing doesn't help, and substituting people at half time, for example, probably doesn't help. You always have to defend as a team, and right now there is some promise, the last few games we really actually haven't allowed many opposition shots, the issue is that we are conceding high quality chances. It does seem resolvable, and some people are overdramatic.

Of course I feel we definitely could do with a few more high quality players defensively, but I also feel that's not the major problem, the players are good enough to do better than they are, and the ultimate responsibility for that is managerial. That's why you hire managers, to maximise player performance. Does this mean Mourinho ought to be sacked? Not necessarily, though I think his position is becoming less tenable, but there needs to be a clear plan and vision in place, not for a transfer window, but how to maximise now. How to bring back confidence, etc, Btw, if this was another manager, Levy, famously short-fused levy, would have sacked him already. I think he bought into the illusion of Mourinho, and definitely over-payed him, if you were to base him on the work of his last 10 years. I still think Mourinho can be a good manager.

How can you base an argument on a game you havent seen. :ROFLMAO: stats are stats. Can be used to make whatever point you want.

We did show more attacking intent but not really till we were already 2 nil down and majority of our shots were from outside the box and were lucky to stay in the stadium so will have made us look more dominate than we were, saying that we did play some nice football in the last 30 minutes. Shame about the dross that came before it.
Argument? I've asked questions based on what was being said a couple of weeks ago about what certain posters wanted, win or lose. I've not offered an argument at all, just said I'm confused at the reaction from those who stated they wanted more possession, more attacking intent, more shots on goal. We seem to have got that, but they're still not happy.

Rather than being facetious about it, maybe read the post properly first?

Let's just say I think the situation is much better now than if we were getting these results playing like we did before.
