Where would we finish next season If our 1stXI had included King,Carrick & Berbs playing alongside Woodgate, Hutton, Bale,JJ & Keano for 90% of our league games

I reckon with the Keane/Berbs......JJ/Carrick & King/Woodgate partnerships + Bale & Modric down the left & Hutton/Lennon down the right this team would be nailed on for a top 4 spot.

Why not include Hoddle, Jennings, Greaves, England, Ginola and Gazza in there as well?

I've said numerous times, our great run at the end of last season was achieved when we finally had all our best players available. Knock away two or three props and we start to look decidedly shaky.

My point was with a bit more luck and in different times (with more loyalty etc) these players would all be starting for us next season.

My point was that with a few less conceeded and a few more scored, we'd win every game.

So many variables - not just the "names" of top players - to make a team tick.

Remember Greece? Who can recall any one of their players that walked off the park with a winners medal?

Blackburn at the very outset of the Premiership era. One or two star names such as Shearer and Sherwood, but otherwise a team bonding, tactically aware set-up, managed with endeavour and aplomb.

It's not just eleven superstars as Real Madrid fans would testify. Take Martin O'Neill's teams - the operative word being team.
