Sheik Mansour

But seriously.......

Sheik Mansour.

That is unfortunately the horrible reality in our league unless UEFA grow a pair and actually stand up to the likes of City and Chavski and enforce FFP (which I don't believe they will do - who has the money has the power and the control). Sickens me.

If City don't win the league again next year comfortably outcomes the cheque book again for another couple of hundred million and some other bullshit excuse like sponsorship deal for the training ground.

And Chelsea will carry on following in Citys footsteps.

Fergie is ruthless, Hernandes and Berbatov don't play regular and when he decides his squad isn't good enough he goes and improves it with younger players. He also rotates his squad.

We have to accept half our squad is not good enough for a top 4 team and stop pretending they are. pointless rotating just for the sake of it. Buy youth and develop it is the new old policy. We can't compete on wages so we need a brilliant scouting system, something until now I don't think we have had. If AVB spent his summer scouting young talent in South America who is there apart from Oscar? What is the point of a tie-up and first pick option with a club if the player we want is aloud to go elsewhere?

The attitude to admit the squad is not good enough and make change is refreshing. Gone is the Harry "fire fighting" approach constantly signing old men to do a temporary job.

1) I agree. Ironic, isn't it, that when Daniel Levy is ruthless, the meeja, and those fans who follow them, immediately act as though we have no right to be ruthless, because we are just quaint little old Tottenham, being ruthless is just for the likes of the United's of this World, we should just accept our place in the order of things.

2) Not good enough for a top 4 team, or not good enough for a top 4 squad?

3) It is also pointless sticking rigidly to a preferred 11 even though it lads to inevitable fatigue, when there are players who are surely good enough to be rotated in and out of the squad without a drastic drop in quality - and I believe we had players to do that and didn't. Surely Pienaar, for instance, would have been good enough to cover (in any of the positions he can cover), in a few games like Wigan at the Lane, leaving core players like Modric fitter at the end of the season.

4) It is, I believe our policy since the hiring of Frank Arnesen, even if 'Arry did leaven the squad out with a few experienced players, that was fine with me because the squad needed it. It was only towards the end that it began to become something of an issue.

5) Why don't you believe we have had one? As I said, our policy became far more focussed on finding and developing youth under Frank Arnesen, and I don't believe we will see the fullest benefits of that than with the young players who basically came up through that system, say 14 YOs and younger. That would make them approaching 20, and what we see, straight away is the likes of Livermore and Caulker coming through. There are a lot of exciting prospects behind them. We have also developed loads of players we acquired young in this time, from Lennon and Thudd to Bale and Walker. I think too many of our fans are looking for where this policy we have us in 3 or 4 years time, and imagining, somehow that they can take out the time it has needed to grow and develop and nurture and looking to have seen the fruits of it about 3 or 4 years ago, TBH.

6) Calm down, calm down.....errggghhhhhhh. He's only just arrived, give the man time, eh.

7) A good question, and one I tried to get a straight answer to from someone who seemed to know, when it was happening. I can understand that Inter will want to bargain even harder, with us, to make it clear that they aren't just our feeder club, and that it is not just down to reaching agreement, the player has to want to join. But even still, it does seem to be far less healthy and productive a relationship than you would have thought.

All we need is a possession minded game plan and dedication to picking up three points. A lot of points were lost due to the fact that teams knew we were weak defensively. So all they had to due was sit-back, defend and then break on us and they more than likely would get a goal. If we slowed the tempo, held the ball and do our best to put our wingers in one on one with their defenders we'd have better chances.

Starting Price - No intention to knock AVB.

No, I know (y)
I just think there is a lot of obfuscation about the massive amount of work that has been done on our youth set-up, and, like I said, folk are judging it on the wrong timescale - we have seen limited returns from it already, but, in real terms, we are only now starting to see the fruits of it in terms of producing our own players from very young age.

2) Not good enough for a top 4 squad.
3) Lack of games meant when they did play they weren't good enough and then weren't trusted. When you get an opportunity in sport you have to take it if you want to be quality and the club needs to be strong with those who can not meet those high expectations. Set the bar high and if you don't get there you will still do better than if you didn't set a high bar.
5) We have probably produced, as you point out, more through our scouting system than I give us credit for. Really looking forward to unearthing the next Hulk from the Japanese Second Division.
6) Wasn't meant as an AVB dig even though it sounds like it.

2) Disagree, then: Pienaar could have been a very good squad player; Krankjar and Bassong were more than good enough to be first team a cople of seasons before, total rustiness made them look worse than they were, surely could have been included more and performed better; was amazed that we let Townsend go out on loan with no adequate cover, he is very driven and very direct, could have done a job in the squad; Corluka more than good enough a year before, Walker was knackered and playing with an injury by the end of the season. IMO each of these players could have been kept more in the loop and rotated with more than enough quality to cope with bottom half teams. Just my opinion, but I think all of those players could have been good enough for our squad in a proper rotation policy, and we finished 4th...ergo ;)

3) Yeah, but lack of games, meaning they were too rusty and therefore not good enough was more to do with managerial polcy than some flat rate crapness of the players.

5) (y) Obviously, the club hasn't produced anyone even approaching superstar status since Ledley from the youth ranks. IMHO a realistic would be that, will all of the time, money and effort invested in it, it would be a success if we produced one player good enough for the first team every couple of season, and a couple of very good squad players every two to three years, and made good money on the rest.

6) (y)
