he already dictates the game from lb i dont see the harm in trying him there he cant do much worse than the others and well he isnt afraid of a tackle either.

he is no better in a tackle then Carrick was. He is different player to Barry. Bale is a LWB really and I think playing him in midfield will not complement his abilities. His current prob. as it stands is his defencive work needs improving. Also Barry was not moved to DM when he was 19. Maybe in 5 years.

Also if Carrick did not do his job propperly then how come both seasons we played him we had a great defencive recored. Even tho' are defence was Stalti Dawson King Lee. We have a better back line now.

Also comparing Carrick with Gerrard and Fiberglass is wrong because those two are both AM not holding players. So now we can compare it (on current standing) masherano, mikel Obi (and sometimes Essien) and Whoever does the job for arsenal now days (their prob. position and it could pos. be Alonso come Jan). Now Carrick compares pritty well to them

why not? I've already seen the worst formation possible, and that was last Sunday. It can only get better.

I hate the square pegs in round holes argument. It comes from a complete lack of thought and is such an easy thing to say. It is like people think that players have a particular position stamped on their arse and that is it for them.

History has proved it is far from the case and there have been plenty of great players who started their careers in one position and ended up in a completely different one. Rather than it being down to 'he is a left back, so he shouldn't play in midfield' it should be more of a case of what skills they offer to a particular role and whether that particular player is best suited in that role for us.

Gareth Bale certainly has some attributes that suit midfield play, especially when he is on the ball. He has a cultured left foot, has good technical ability and has a great engine. I'm not entirely convinced he would be a great defensive midfielder as he will always want to go forward and his natural movements and positioning are not ideally suited to the holding role (in the same way that Gareth Barry's definately are).

Personally I feel Bale would be best suited to the left back role for us. He loves to get forward and coming from deep allows him the extra freedom when attacking that he isn't afforded when playing left wing (due to the fullback picking him up). Defensively he still has a lot to learn, but in our situation we need him to be an offensive option and his and Huttons overlapping from fullback can be a positive feature of our game. Bale in that role would certainly help us to be more expansive and stretch teams more while his offensive attributes would provide another outlet which has been so sadly lacking in the last couple of games.

regardless of the article or not I think he could play CM. I'm mates with David Prutton and while at southampton he said he's not seen a player that good that young ever, and used to control games of football from LB.
Prut's is still convinced Bale will end up in CM. I openly disagree that he'll end up there, as in it won't be considered his best posistion, but i do think he'll get game time in his career at CM and will do well there on those occasions too.

The Barry comparison is alsovalid. A young left footer with a nice touch and pass, who stared off needing the security of a touchline to help him positionally, who after time found at the highest level can't defend well enough against the best pacey attackers, so moved to CM where the distance you have to cover to close down a player is often shorter and the space in an around you for a player to knock it past you and run away is far more limited.

In Bale's case, compared to Barry, you arguably have a player who is more competitive in the air and one that is certainly quicker. You'll also have a player that by his mid 20's will have 4 times the interantional experience too.

We have been searching for a top class left back for many years (as long as i can remember infact.) We finally have one who could become a World Class talent in that role. So we should keep him at left back. I still think that, when Ramos gets this team playing the way he wants, Bale will be our Daniel Alves. But we need the quality central midfielders for that to happen.

I think Gunter is a better choice there. He's similar age with great potential too. We already have Hutton at right back, and now Corluka. Gunter adapted well to centre back for Wales, but he also has good qualities going forward. He could do that from time to time at defensive midfield, and still have cover in behind him if we lose the ball. Plus i think he's better defensively than Bale.

Bale is injury prone and has a big frame .

Playing fullback requires frequent quick changes of direction from stationary and when you look at how Gareth does it he must put a hell of a strain on his tendons .

Bale should be played as a left sided Beckham . He'll have a longer career than if he stays as fullback .

This thread blows my mind! Bale = good youngster = the answer to our DM problem

I think not, but thanks for making me smile, first time anything Spurs related has done that since the cup final.

(seriously only 3 wins in the last 18! we should be more worried than i think we are!)
