What do Spurs do during coaching sessions?

Not normally a thread starter and have mentioned this subject a couple of times already today in other threads but I think it deserves a separate debate.

Has anybody on here actually been to Spurs Lodge since Harry and his crew took over and watched a training session? Especially one featuring the first team squad. If so, what were your impressions? Was it all fitness based or was it a mixture of various drills, tactical short-sided games and set pieces? Did you witness any of our players eg Bale, Jenas, Bentley, Lennon practicing free-kicks, crossing, shooting etc etc

Those of you that have played football at a decent level and participated in training sessions will know what I am taking about.

The reason I am asking for this debate is because there are various threads about which criticise various players technical abilities and our lack of creativity / finishing. Does the Coaching have any influence on this and if so, why is it apparently not working/improving? Do you think the quality of our coaches is good enough compared to other clubs? Is it up to the coaches to get the best from our players or is it solely the players' responsibility to get the best from the coaches?

What do you think?

You can't teach bottle. And Modric, Campbell etc have been bottling it big time when they get into the 3rd quarter of the pitch.

We have enough coaches at Spurs these days to handle every aspect without me starting another Hughton style thread :)

In all seriousness I imagine at this stage of the season training is pretty irregular and relatively light in intensity, what with two games every seven days.

Most of the individual technical aspects are analyzed using prozone, and flaws are subsequently addressed and hopefully ironed out.

Harry has probably worked heavily with his coaching staff on set piece drills as we seem a hell of a lot tighter from those recently. But aside from that most of the training is going to be the usual top up conditioning work, the odd game of five aside and specialist coaching (Les Ferdinand working on finishing, keepers working with the Goalkeeping coach etc.)

Training can be misleading in most sports, for example in Cricket you often hear the phrase "he looks good in the nets" out in the middle this can mean very little. Going back to our traning and the highlighting of Bentley's standard of set pieces, in training he might be hitting the back of the net from every free kick but it's a completely different game on match day.

Seems we have improved defensively, so that would be something. They probably also practice eating babies and raping women.

I am not sure there is enough room for all the players to train due to all the coaching staff taking up space. Fortunately King is not there, JJ is too busy sorting out iPod playlists and BAE is not bothered, so that creates some room.

Interesting you should mention Prozone, I have wondered whether Harry uses it to dissect the team's performance and to help the players understand the various good and bad points of their game. My worry though is that it's a highly technical piece of software and needs some serious study and understanding if the full benefits are to be reaped. I have this picture in my head of Harry, Kevin Bond or Joe Jordan standing in front of a room full of players, showing a big screen of statistics, animations and video playback, explaining what changes they want to see eliciting responses such as "yeah, Ok Guv" or perhaps a "Can I be Man Utd?" or a "so you want me to put the ball in the box more?"

Maybe it's just my impression that players from other leagues in Europe are far better at understanding the technical aspects of the game than your average British player.

Yeah Harry uses Prozone. He mentioned it before. But he also said you have to look beyond stats and use your eyes/head and not rely on it too heavily.

does catching one in your mouth, sprinting to the goaline, spiting it up and out and nodding it over the line count (all without melting the chocolate coating?)...could be used as speed training for Pav??????:beer::beer::beer::duh:

I dont know about pro-zone, judging by our recent performances i think they are more likely to be on pro-zac !!
Lets hope for the best tonight versus Wigan
