I am guessing we will be playing a 4 - 5 - 1 with the ability to adapt to a 4 - 4 - 2. My question is, we have bought GDS, Modric, Bentley and apparantly Arshavin in the works with the disire to sign Capel. We have Jenas, Zoks, Hud, Lennon and O'hara. I believe we still need a strong DM, so where the hell are all these guys going to fit in? Surely Bentley will be RM first choice so lennon on the bench? If Capel comes in GDS on the bench?

I know there will be rotation and injuries but the money that has been splashed out it seams they all carry a first team price tag.

I cant understand why, if we havent already, tried for Villa. His agent has stated publicly Villa is a fan, perhaps drumming up an auction but surely worth a punt!!

Hooo Hum in Juande I trust i suppose, it will be exciting although if we cant have a successful season it will be tres tres embarrasing!

Despite bleetings to the opposite we've played with two banks of 4 in all our games in pre-season. And lined up thusly last night.

Taarabt started just off Bent, but pushed up as the half went on. GDS played further forward, but it was definitely a front 2 supported by two banks of four in midfield and defence.

Ive got a feeling we could play a Xmas tree formation (4-3-2-1) with the back four naming themselves then Modric,Veloso(NEW DM),Bentley as the 3 and Gio & Arshavin as the two with either Bent or someone we sign as the lone striker.

Bentley is versatile enough to be able to play that role as he is great on the ball and is also a very hard worker! Then Arshavin & Gio will have free roles to go and cause problems for the opposition, a very similar formation to what ManUSA play. Ive got a feeling we wont go for Capel now and will just buy Arshavin/Pavlyuchenko/Veloso/and a new CB to cover. For me that would be a very good side who would be capable to change formation quite comfortably if needed which is invaluable in the permiership now!

The formation is definitely 4-2-3-1. Only speaking from the Orient game the formation looked very fluid when where in possession of the ball, starting from the back, the wing backs push high up and chalk the touch line. The two centre backs are evenly spaced but not square on. One of the patrolling central mid drops off, then of the three behind the Anchor forward the movement and intercharge is rapid.

The alarming thing was the isolation of the two centre backs if possession is lost up field. It will only take a route one ball to turn us over therefore its important IMO to have one very quick centre back-is the reason I see Zokora as being vital when King needs a rest.

His agent never said he was a fan, just that he was open to the idea of moving to spurs, but this as your've pointed out, was nothing more than giving Madrid a hurry up in making a bid, for that is the only other club to be linked towards him, and the club that he would like to go to.

Villa won't becoming to spurs.

Formation

---------Gomes
Hutton King Woodgate Bale
---------Jenas
Lennon Modric Bentley Dos Santos
---------Bent

Jenas plays as CM not as a DM, there is no DM
Modric and Bentley both play behind the striker
Dos Santos and Lennon can swap sides
Bent is strong enough to play by himself
It works because I'm quite brilliant.

Darren Bent completed a second hat-trick in as many friendly matches as we made it 10 goals in a week by beating Leyton Orient 5-1 on Wednesday night.

The striker picked up where he left off at Norwich City on Monday to make it seven goals in two matches as we repeated the winning scoreline from Carrow Road.

This time, it was all about the second half as we trailed 1-0 at the break to Jason Demetriou's curler before rattling in four goals inside 15 minutes to completely change the course of the game.

Bent rounded it off with the fifth in the 77th minute to make it seven goals in his last two games and nine so far in pre-season.

There was a tale of the unexpected after just four minutes when Demetriou picked up the ball around five yards outside of the area to the left. After ambling forward in a non-threatening fashion he looked up before planting a curler of the highest quality into the top left hand corner.

Young Oscar Jansson in goal could do nothing about it and the majority of a full house at Brisbane Road were given some early cheer by their side.

Gareth Bale made his first start of the pre-season campaign in left midfield ahead of Gilberto, while Adel Taarabt and Aaron Lennon were operating behind Darren Bent in attack, with Tom Huddlestone and Luka Modric patrolling central midfield.

Yeah... PT the person who writes the reports for the websie is not a formation guru though. If you read waht he's written it doesn't make sense anyway. i left midfielder. 1 forward 2 supporting and 2 CM's.. so no right hand side?

really though it was Bent up top with Tarrabt in the no.10 role with lennon and Bale either side of a modric/hud cm... a 442. Lennon just got forward quicker on the right.... which is pretty much the fromation we've played for 3 years

Gio and Modric are both so comfortable on the ball, and their movement is so good, that they always mess up the formation!

Any starting formation we use (with the current striker situation) will be 4-something-1, and Sky Sports will always show a 4-4-1-1 cos then Andy Gray can make profound statements about somebody filling the "Robbie Keane void".

Let's just go win some games.

The way everyone is talking Berbatov is already gone... if that is the case we HAVE to sign another striker! Reports today suggest Pavlyuchenko (excuse the spelling) and/or Arshavin - are Bent and Pav too similar to play together though?

Can't wait to just get to the start of the season and see who we have and who we don't have!

Posted this in Bentley thread but more appropriate here:

At the moment this would be my strongest 11 and subs (without Berba):

------------Gomes---------

Hutton--Woodgate--King--Bale

--------Jenas----Modric-----

Lennon------Bentley-----Giovani

--------------Bent------------

Subs: Jansson, Gunter, Gilberto, Zokora, Dawson, Huddlestone, O'Hara

Obviously main problem is lack of another striker, don't think Pekhart is ready. The 3 attacking midfielders behind Bent will more or less have 3 roles and all be interchangeable. Would love to get the Butt Shaver also but would be happy with just another striker. Don't really think Veloso is needed for the price we'd have to pay.

And no point adding Berba, he's gonna be off, just like there's no point adding Kaboul, YP Lee etc

You guys have one hell of a team coming together. If you sign up Arshavin, you will be reaching that point where a top 4 place is definitely achievable.

Berbatov up top, with Arshavin in behind, Hutton and Bentley linking up down the right side.......really looking good on paper.

I think the biggest issue you have now is central midfield. I don't think you have a dominating presence in there. Get that, and Ramos will have you well on the way to competing with the big boys.

Perhaps Gareth Barry would be worth spending £18m on ? Bwaaaahahahaha !! Liverpool = mugs :duh:

"Formations are dead" - Slaven Bilic

I honestly believe we won't be playing a rigid set formation next year. The players we have bought or are buying; Modric, Gio, Bentley, and Arshavin, are all flexible, intelligent and will use movement to unlock defenses.

Whe we haven't got the ball I am sure we will keep narrow and make sure sure the midfield defends in blocks

I feel quite sorry for the other Premiership managers next season.

I think Zokora might go bye bye in January, think that's when we'll see the final major cull.

So much creativity in midfield! And if we get Arshavin too..... :hump:

I've no idea what formation we'll play, but I'm bloody excited about the free flowing football we could be seeing next season! My one concern being the lack of real physical presence in midfield.

I will be very surprised if Dos Santos isn't a regular. He is a very intelligent kid and i'm sure he wouldn't have left the Barce bench for the Spurs bench. In my opinion, he is a better player than Arshavin, Bentley or Bale. So whatever formation Juande plays, i'm sure Dos Santos will be included.

Thanks for posting that again I was trying to think where I saw this formation, I think this is a fantastic line up (maybe a bit Ozzie, but I like that !)

It goes to show how far we have come though when I look at the bench a think spurs should have better options than Hudd, Zokora, OHara, Dawson ,Gilberto !

interesting point, I hope your right in some ways but I think it might take him a while to get a regular run of games, looks very exciting though !!

Alot of people are playing Modric in a def position I cant see that happening, this boy is a class act going forward. I think it will be

------------Gomes------------

Hutton---Woodgate--King---Bale

--------------Jena------------

Bentley------Modric--Lennon/GDS

---------GDS/Arshavin ---------

----Bent/(your russian guy)-----

I hope we get a solid DM to play infront of our defence, yes it will be exciting but unless Ledder and Woody are playing every game we could get hit very hard on counter attacks. As has been said this formation will be very dynamic and the five across the middle could go more defensive or attacking and even to a 4 - 4 - 2 with both GDS/Arshavin being able to play as a second striker!!!

we could have some cricket scores without our 2 main CB's
