He's talking about the England national team, not the country. Because he supports Rep. of Ireland. Stop over-interpreting!

Liverpool and Celtic are the clubs of choice for Rep. of Ireland football supporters. It's a sectarian thing.

Im afraid man United feature nearly as heavily as Liverpool as well. Celtic aren't as popular as they used to be (see next paragraph) but are still up there.

Most people that slag off England do so just for jokes now. I would say 90% percent of the real hatred that was there in the 80's is all but gone now, thankfully. I tell most people i want to see England do well in the WC (cos its loaded with spurs players) , and they raise an eyebrow but accept it. Even the royal wedding got on RTE tv last week, there was a few moaners but they were mostly labelled as such. Let's hope Brexit doesn't start to divide us again.

just having a look on RAWK now...haven't got to the comments on Kane yet but saw this...

Be interesting to know how many Rawkites are actually supporting England. I want the Liverpool players to do well but I wont be cheering on a side managed by the charasmstic Southgate populated by players from Utd and Spurs. I shall be supporting Mo and his boys

o_O

I wonder what team/country he will follow now as I'm not sure Liverpool have many players involved now, other than the English boys:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Or Britain could've, y'know, paid some consideration to how removing itself from political integration with Ireland might have affected the border region and the still-young peace, maybe even thought about how to mitigate that, before committing to that course of action? Anyway, unless we've got an upcoming fixture I'm not aware of against Jean-Claude Juncker FC, this is probably the wrong thread...

Phew....... let's try and get back on topic then.

Rawk:

Pre Poch contract signing:

I've said it before and I'll say it again - If we beat Real Madrid, Zidane gets sacked. There's then no way they don't go for Pochettino, and he'd be an absolute idiot if he doesn't go there as well. Appointing the right man to continue what Pochettino has been doing, and also not losing the likes of Kane/Ali/Eriksen, will then be a big task.

If Zidane does get the sack, I think they'll go for him. Whether or not he leaves will be one of those sagas to keep an eye on during the summer.

With the move to the new stadium they'll have to sell to buy imo. It's the same problem Arsenal had after moving to The Emirates. Could see Alderwiereld, Rose, Wanyama and Sissoko all moving on in the summer.

Most of those guys are fringe players at the moment so I don't think it'll be a big problem for them. Their squad is pretty strong right now so I don't see them slipping away anytime soon, provided they don't lose someone important and squander the fee.

Poch dropping “back me or sack me” threats to Levy? I think the stadium is seriously overspent and cash flow is becoming a problem.

Spurs fans celebrating finishing above Liverpool like it's some sort of fantastic achievement is the most Spurs thing ever.

To be fair, finishing above the European Champions is a fantastic achievement.

Will be the last time it happens for a long time.

A definite power struggle going on at Spurs.

It's not going to be a struggle though. A power struggle is say, Ferguson vs those Irish lads who owned the horses - Levy holds every ounce of power at Spurs.

Well, in that case, it will only be a matter of time before they'll be looking for a new manager, Pochettino won't stay for long under those conditions. :ROFLMAO:

You really wonder how much longer they can keep this up, how much more patience will the fans have with no trophies? Also, the control Levy has it just not sustainable forever.

According to the Telegraph, Pochettino wants 150 million to spend, to sell and buy who he wants.

Well, if someone wanted to engineer his way out of a contract, this is step #1 in that process. Either that, or he's not entirely familiar with how the club he's been employed with for the past four seasons operates.

If he carries on spending it on the likes of Sissoko, Jansen, Aurier and Llorente, I'd be all for it

I'm struggling to see where Spurs finds £150m for him to spend, whilst ALSO giving new (huge) contracts to their biggest players and ALSO to any new signings (who will want parity). I mean who have they got to sell who would bring in decent money who they'd be happy to let go?

With also repaying a £400m loan over 5 years.

I can see them selling Dembele, Aldervwield and Rose for a decent amount of money.

Poch to Chelsea

Don't think it's any coincidence that news comes out about him wanting money to spend and then suddenly linked with their cross city rivals. Dangerous game he is playing with Levy.

I think that's exactly what he's doing he wants lots of money this summer. But Chelsea could triple his wages easily. I mean Levy is paying himself a lot more than what he's earning.

Exactly- all this past week has been designed to put as much pressure on Levy to give Poch what he wants. Talk in the Times this morning they may have to return to Wembley as the new stadium won't be ready in time for next season...

With Pochettino demanding money to spend that the Club does not have, he clearly doesn't give two shits about Tottenham or its future. It's not like the situation at Newcastle where the money is there but the owners are too greedy, there is a very good reason as to why spending should be reigned in for a few years.

If he goes to Chelsea and takes Kane and Alli with him then we can go back to not minding Spurs and despising Chelsea

Spurs are a tiny club who have got lucky in Kane and in the market. That won't last forever. Let them celebrate their trophy for finishing 3rd. We were ahead majority of season but then had to rotate players. Can't wait till spurs become the 6th best team in league again. Where they belong.

And we got paid more than them for finishing a place below them. Nice.

Since when have Spurs ever been relevant to us? I couldn't give a shit about them. They aren't even the biggest club in North London. I'll always respect Arsenal, but Spurs have never been on the radar. Are they another club trying to drum up a plastic 'rivalry' with us when we actually don't give a crap about them? It's laughable

Just because Spurs haven't won as much as us doesn't make them an 'shite insignificant club'. They have been and still are one of the biggest clubs in this country. They've won 15 major honours. Not looked but doubt there's many teams who have won more.

They're the seventh most successful in England - https://www.totalsportek.com/list/most-successful-clubs-in-english-football-history/.

Below Villa and Everton
lmao.gif

I'm really not arsed about Spurs but I'd say 7th most successful club is quite good personally. If that's an insignificant shite club then I'm not sure how you would describe the other 90 or so professional clubs in England.

I think some of their fans have started to pretend that they are somewhat on our level when it comes to being big clubs. Which they are nowhere near.

No, not even close. But their dreams... They aspire to be us, and also despise us for who we are.

Pochettino signs a new 5 year deal at £8.5m a year. Levy finally going to the bank for a withdrawal.

That's a big old deal. Wonder how many players will follow suit. Think Klopp is only on about £5/6m isn't he?

wow, all his whinging worked, he got a huge pay rise
grin.gif
Pressure keeps getting ramped up for Pochetinno. Time to really prove his worth now that 's likely the 3rd highest paid coach in the league.

The cynic in me says it's only so that Spurs can charge PSG a bigger amount to buy him out next summer.

Poch must have a fantastic agent,he must be in the top 5 for best paid in the world and he's won the square root of zilch.

I wonder what assurances he's received re: transfers. Will cost Madrid more for the Kane/Pochettino package next summer

Do Spurs really want to win trophies above all else though? I'd hazard a guess that his contract is awarded for his ability to improve players and in turn their transfer value. Levy will know this.

Annoying how under the radar Vertonghen is for them. Been their best centre-back for what feels like forever yet never gets linked to anyone.

He was linked with us a few years ago :cautious:

Arsenal revenue the season before moving into the Emirates: £133.6M
Tottenham revenue last season: £306.3M

Which is why "Arsenal had to be austere after moving stadiums, so Tottenham will as well" is complete nonsense. The footballing landscape is not even vaguely comparable.

Did we get lucky with Alli, Bale, Levy and Chirpy too?

Someone point out we’ve finished above them 9 out of last 10 seasons in league, have the same amount of silverware over last decade (one league cup apiece), they’ve sold more of their star players to bigger clubs over the past decade to boot, and annual revenue now only 19% difference when it was 30% a decade ago.

I detest pool fans.

I liken them to west ham last season - they became obsessed with us and vitriolic. Previously I didn't give a monkeys about them, completely indifferent. Now they have a special place of loathing in my heart, to the point where their obvious anguish and despair this weekend gave me actual physical pleasure

They're getting worse after each season. It's like the longer they go without winning the PL the less human they become.

The lack of self awareness and overflowing entitlement of Liverpool fans is hilarious

“There is a generation of Reds growing up who haven’t and must fear they never will. I saw a mate outside the stadium after the game on Saturday night. He’s 19, goes home and away, and he was in bits. Where’s his story for the grandkids? Will he ever get one?”

From an actual article on an actual site. They’ve been to the fifth most finals in the past 15 years (3), winning it just 13 years ago (only 7 sides in the whole of Europe have won it since), and they want sympathy. Not bad for a side who were last champions nearly 30 years ago

It's almost like some kind of marxist analysis. They've moved up into competition with us which causes alienation and social breakdown.

Although, I can't help but think, they were the absolute worst regardless of whether we are in competition.

I don't think there was a time (since I understood what they were about) that I didn't utterly despise them with every fibre of my humanity. Their histrionics are sometimes funny and the schadenfreud when they lose is nice, but if there was any team that I would want to disappear, it's them.

Losing a CL final must feel like a kick in the nuts but to affect the reproductive ability of a teenager is a bit too much in my opinion :pompous:
