I always try to distinguish between opposition to the government of Israel and and anti-semitism.

Galloway's comment was unadulterated anti-semitism, masquerading as an anti-Israel comment.
The problem is that ****s like him refuse to distinguish between the country and the people.

They know perfectly well what the difference is and choose not to see it because their hatred of Israel is so strong.

Galloway - So Liverpool have no Jewish fans and Tottenham football club are all complicit in the Israeli occupation of Palestine? Up there with the most moronic, idiotic posts I've read in a long time.

is there a difference between disliking Israel and anti-semitism ?

Of course there is!
99% of all the hullabaloo sighting so called ”anti-semitism” is basically anti-Israeli government.

The majority of the rest is idiots on the twattertosphere

This is a huge issue in modern politics at the moment. If you say a word against the Israeli government you're tainted as an antisemite, when in an ideal world there would no correlation between the two. If you dislike the taste and marketing of Carling, does that mean you have an innate hatred of all beer?

This is what I meant, anyone who says anything against Israel ( country or government ) is being classed as anti-Semitic as far as the media is concerned.

I am no expert on Israel or the Jewish faith, that's why I asked.

You'd probably just move on to another pissy aftertaste lager if I'm honest.

Well that's the problem with Salah, refusing to shake an Isreali players hand, as if he had anything to do with the situation. Galloway is just pure antisemitism Israel is just used as a way to excuse it.

I thought we weren't allowed to mention politics in these kind of threads...? I have no objection to it myself, so perhaps the crap I was subjected to by certain users was just in my imagination then...?

That is cobblers. I have Jewish friends who loathe the current Israeli government and what it stands for!

So do I. But Galloway uses Israel has a vessel to direct his antisemitism. I've been involved in pro Palestine movements and most people in them are not antisemitic, however, a lot are and use it as a way to legitimize their hate.

Galloway is a git I would agree!
But being anti Netanyahu & Co is not being antisemitic!

That's my view too. I'm not a fan of nation state flags - they're wider symbols beyond football. If I had to carry one of those flags, it'd be an Israeli flag with a Palestinian flag together.
