Reminds me of those few decades when at the end of every season Liverpool fans would announce themselves champions of their own table with shots hitting the post counting as goals! Fucking hipster drivel is what it is!
That was hilarious.

Just because you don't get or don't like xG in whatever form, doesn't mean its pointless.

I think most people that "hate" it is simply because they're too lazy to understand it, i'm also sick to death of the xG talk, but atleast I bothered to understand the data.

Look, if you don't like it that's fine, even if you understand how it works and still don't like it that's also fine.

Most people don't bother going into tables like above and study it to death because at that point, it's absolutely pointless.

However, the only thing I take a quick glance at if I wasn't able to watch a full match is the xG, but before that I also look at shots, shots on target. Most people that look at xG just take it as a quick glance to get an idea of which team had the better chances in a match they missed.

For example Chelsea had about a million shots at the weekend but most were from range and not good chances, xG will quickly tell you roughly that.

Not everyone that looks at xG is a weirdo on a computer analysing every single statistic available, most use it as a quick glance stat..

There's nothing nerdy about xG. I'm all for a separate thread where guys can get together and pore over the numbers.
However a mod will need to be in there at all times because some of the harder lads on here will probably go there and take their dinner money.

Nah~ they'd just take everyone elses dinner money!
I can't wait for the international break to end, so this thread gets back on topic

They will just pick who to Rob, based on expected dinner money..

Well they talk about the Bruno header like it was certain he was going to score. But he’s only scored 3 with his head in his entire career. About as likely as a Davinson penalty or a Romero screamer…

I watched this several times and it was coming in at a weird over the shoulder angle - not as easy as it was made out to be. A difference of a few centimeters but if you look it wasnt a sure thing and sure enough he missed it

Honestly people who talks about xG are the absolute worst.
I think it’s one of many good stats, but opposing fans will say “they uoutperformed their XG, they are shit and lucky”, or “they underpermed their XG they are shit and wasteful and not clinical”

Always good for a laugh

This is genuinely one of the most enjoyable threads on SC when we are doing well, which of course we have been. Don’t ruin it with this absolute shite.

Was trying to find something from a blades forum, not much there to find or I suck at searching...

But this one though...

Of all the fans of so-called 'elite' clubs, I've always found Citeh and Spurs fans to be the most decent.

Doesn't apply to you lot though so just scroll on by and continue with the xG chatter...

My Blades supporting mate is pretty pessimistic of their chances this season.
I went with him to the Everton game and he highlighted how we would kill them down the wings.
their left back looked shocking before being subbed off.

My only concern is he messaged me before the cup game last season to say they had a load of players out sick and we should walk it - we know how that turned out.

Just to get this thread back on track...

What's the xOFC (expected opposition fan comments) before and after any given game?

A bit late but I’m bored of the off topic stuff so some comments from Burnley fans:

Re: Why the panic?

Casper2 wrote: Top 6 ?
Villa finished 7th and Spurs 8th last season.
I think both will be higher this season. Spurs mate of mine says they are a better side without Kane and that looks to be the case.

I wish we’d had a button to press against Spurs!
We’d have needed the sections to disappear horizontally, starting with our net and box to avoid conceding any more.

Pretty sure Spurs could’ve continued to score at will otherwise
:D

We will be down ages before that date so no panic needed

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast

Another good episode.

Agree with Greavsy re the Tottenham midfield and their fitness. Bissouma did look like he could
run all day

Maddison was the ref essentially.

Just bizarre inconsistencies. Two incidents five minutes apart show what we are up against. Second half, our free kick on halfway. Makes a big fuss over where to take it from. Drags it back five and allows them to stand on it. Spurs five minutes later. Five yards from where it should be taken and let's it slide. Just constant marginal gains to the opposition from **** poor referees.
A great start – Burnley looked just as good as Spurs – for 20 minutes! - and Foster finished a good move involving Roberts and the wriggling, jiggling Koleosho. Then it all changed. Once Spurs had scored there was no stopping them, with Maddison pulling the strings all over the pitch and Son a deadly finisher. Only during the last 10 minutes, when Spurs finally eased off, did Burnley look anything like a team again, with Brownhill and Cork taking over.

Sad.
Juan Tanamera wrote: You didn't understand the tactics from the first minute?
What about that tactic in the 4th minute where Koleosho cut them to shreds to lay on our first goal, did you think Kompany had made a mistake there?
In fairness it was possibly after conceding 5 on the bounce and an almost total capitulation that led him to believe we may have made tactical errors . I personally thought Spurs were very good indeed , though , yes our 1st goal was quality .
