We still won 2 out of our next 3 games after City, including 5-0 against Newcastle. IMO, the 5-2 loss against Arsenal (after being 2-0 up) was the turning point, we went on to lose 2 and draw 2 in the next 4 games

Can't dispute that but I refer to this point in my post '(lose and the) Title becomes distant and we end up looking over our shoulder'. I think that rings true and therefore keeps it as a watershed moment in that season. Post Newcastle was when it all fell down but psychologically everything reverted to hold on to CL after that loss.

I'd personally feel a lot more comfortable the longer our players can keep aspiring to the title rather than worrying about losing their CL place. That Watford performance at the weekend was indicative of the player's positivity and excitement at what they can achieve, I don't want fear to start creeping in.

Great read!

I think we will strengthen with a striker for sure... Michy Batshuayi.

"French newspaper L'Equipe say on Thursday that Tottenham are in 'very advanced talks' over a potential summer move for the 22 year old, setting things up in advance. That would make sense too, getting things sorted out before the summer, and before the Euros, with Batshuayi having a good chance of making Belgium's squad, would suit everyone involved."

As for DM... It all depends is Nabil step up and adapt his game. Defenders.... I would prefer a young and up coming deputy for Toby whom can also play with Vert.

I'll be honest, them not feeling confident makes me feel even less confident.

Agreed. Its a touch reminiscent of how we went into the game away to Man Utd last season. They looked vulnerable and we looked full of belief. Then they produced their best 45 minutes of the season and we just didn't turn up.

I don't fear us 'not turning up' anymore as we almost always do enough to at least match our opponents these days, but if City produce their best 45 minutes of the season against us then it'll be a big ask to come away with anything positive.

There's a lot of people who work in journalism, who don't seem to have any qualifications in actual journalism, and are more marketing based. Articles like this aren't marketed for a positive response, or to be in any way insightful. They're marketed so that they generate clicks.

It follows a similar draw as the internet fact, that if you ever want to know the answer to a question from the internet, the best way of getting it is by posting the wrong answer on the internet, & people flock to tell you you're an idiot but give you the answer you were actually after at the same time.

What this shitty article is aiming for, is outrage clicks from people who think they're proving they're more knowlegable by posting links to the article, & pointing out what a mong the author is. The person who wrote this doesn't give a shit what you think of them, as long as you click the link and get them ad revenue, and 5 stars if you post a forum link. Blatant clickbait shit like this should be posted as an archive IMO.

They use to do similar sorts of crap on daytime television, they would ask a question that any tard would know and ask people to ring in, at premium rates of course. Simply because they knew the secret of this world: people are generally idiots.

Remember Jade Goody and more recently (I forget her name) but that woman who says stupid stuff on TV like - I think all poor people should be shot or something like that. The general public clammer for idiots, because they in themselves are idiots and are obsessed by correcting people. Like all the people on here who correct grammar!

from Bluuuuuuuuuuue Mooooooooooooooon....

Spurs have been steadily improving all season, they have a super away record, have virtually a full fit squad to choose from (bar Vertonghen), hammered us 4-1 earlier in the season and play in a way that always causes us problems. We are in poor form, got dismantled by Leicester last week, are injury ravaged and have real problems in putting out a balanced side. We also seem to be totally reliant on Aguero for goals.

Apart from that why wouldn't we be confident over this one?

Getting the excuses in early I see. With De Bryne, Silva and Kompany out we should stick Eric tight on Aguero and hit them hard early and get the first goal. If Eric loses him Toby or Wimmer can mop up.

My mate was over from New Zealand for the first game that we won 4-1 - do you think I should try and fly him over for this one...maybe he brings good luck!

Great point, and the point before yours.

What I hope is that we no longer give these teams the 'respect' factor, going into games and not expecting to dominate, to win. That's where Poch really has earnt his crust. But lets see what happens. A sign of a top team is dispatching the teams you should.

They have experienced matchwinners in both ends of the pitch. I have no problem imagining a game where we'll be dominating what happens between the two goals only to find that Hart and Aguero are unplayable.

If we approach it like we did Arsenal away we will smash them..
That's the reason we have been so good. We approach every game like that. If we were just a bit more clinical I honestly believe we would be 7-10 pts clear at the top of the league. We have been that good. Think of Newcastle at home, Everton home and away, the scum away. Those are all games that we should have won at a cantor but just didn't take our chances.

don't forget Stoke at home, game should've been over at half time. Also Eriksen puts away that early chance at Old Trafford in August we would've won that game as well

Best completely forget about the what ifs, it will truly do your head in otherwise.

I always try to think of the 'what if' moments in terms of cause and effect.

Maybe if we'd beaten Leicester we would have been more complacent in the games that followed? Maybe we learnt something from the Newcastle game that has made us generally more focussed and tougher to beat?

It's like when people say things like "if that goal had gone in we would have won the game 2-1 instead of drawing" without considering that the events that followed one incident (or result) wouldn't have played out in exactly the same way.

All we can say is that as a result of the performances and results we've had across the season, we're in the position we are now. Maybe in some alternative universe we thrashed United on the opening day of the season, and Kane broke both legs when out on the town celebrating!

As well as agreeing with what @Spurger King wrote just above, I have to point out a habitual double standard here. People tend to cite every example of a Spurs player's missed chance as a failure by a Spurs player - "we would have won that game" - but a missed chance by an opposition player is a failure of the Spurs defence - "we were lucky".

We can't have it both ways. There were plenty of times that we could have dropped points this season, except that an opposition player skied a shot at an open goal or hit a post.

Given this major element of chance and randomness in football, all that our players - our team - can do is what it is already doing very effectively, which is to restrict the number of opposition chances while maximising the number of Spurs chances. Elsewhere on SC, a statistic was posted today or yesterday, to the effect (broadly) that we created about 160 clear chances and have permitted our opponents to create 75. I can't remember over what period this was. If we are able to perpetuate that proportion over our remaining matches, we will win most of them and finish high in the table.

Focusing so obsessively on individual moments in individual matches and how they affected results is not productive. We used to be able to say that "for every one great chance that we missed, there was one the the opposition missed". The objective now is to be able to say that "for every two great chances that we missed, there was one that the opposition missed". That's a key part of Pochettino's "philosophy".

Yep...Son's winner against Watford could have been (correctly) ruled offside. Alli's wonder goal could have smashed off the post. And we haven't even started talking about all the 'what if' moments our opponents have had in their own matches.
