Hmm, are you equating money with fun or believing those artificially inflated season ticket waiting lists?

The Premier League hasn't updated its viewing figure page on its website for five years but in 2014 they were claiming on average 12.5 million global viewers per game; the highest average UK viewing figure this season was Man Utd at 1.2m; Spurs was less than 900k. That's how important we are - less than 10% of the audience.

Viewing figures of champions league in UK at an all time low, been falling for years, despite it growing elsewhere. All of the 'most watched league in the world' stuff is due to global expansion - and about half of this is Man Utd.

Tickets aren't oversubscribed, they've just effectively legalised touting, so there's no downside to having a season ticket for anyone as you can sell it on for insane mark up. That's not loyalty, it's business, like the rest of it.

I wouldn't buy into the brand bluster and just look at the empty seats and how clubs are freezing season ticket prices in fear of uproar. Money doesn't make things better, often it makes them worse

I doubt the viewing figures have dipped much tbh. Just a case that more and more people are streaming now due to prices. I agree with the bulk of what you say though.

Exactly this in my opinion. The Champions League going from free to air and shared with sky to solely BT must have affected the official UK viewing figures negatively as per guilty' post.

To be honest I can't see anything other than Leicester returning to being completely shit as this season was a total freak.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure 99% of the Leicester fans won't give the tiniest shit as they will forever be in the record books as Premier League champions........ The bastards

with all the extra TV money about from next season, the one thing I won't expect to happen to them is a Leeds or a Blackburn. they know what they did this season was never on the expected list until it become apparent that they would go on to achieve it, but do not expect them to be going full guns blazing financially to defend or win the CL.

the only thing next season is plenty of teams will play against them differently, but how differently and how effective is another thing. the season they nearly went down, is the way those opposition teams played against them this season, they won't be playing against them like that anymore, so the only way they will falter next year might be down to injuries to key players

One of the main advantages Leicester would have financially - i will almost 100% guarantee not one of their players has a "win the league" bonus clause written into their contract. Sure, they'll have one based on league position, but "anything above tenth" would probably have been the absolute best case scenario they could ever have dreamed. Combined with the fact they are likely on dick all wages too, this season has been a success both on the pitch and down the bank.

I would guess that a huge part of how they will do next year will hinge on what happens in this closed season - who they sign, yes, but more importantly, what new contracts are demanded by their stars. Don't expect for one second that the four or five real achievers in that team won't be angling for a new deal - they're league champs afterall.

The backroom and boardroom staff are going to have to be very, very smart with how they play this.

I think it is nonsense to say that no team in the prem knew Leicesters tactics so Leicester surprised them and won. Xmas we all knew their game, January we all knew their game, February we all knew their game.... What's different next season? Oh they won the league so we had better take their tactics into consideration and chAnge our game accordingly???? If this is the case then ALL the coaches/ managers that ignored their game should be ashamed of themselves, Poch included, or did they take account of it and still come up short?

Television deals are increasing in value and next season even the team that finishes bottom is likely to match the current top income

In the Premier League's first season, 1992-93, the total prize pot including parachute payments was £37.5m. Manchester United were top earners back then, making £2,413,660. Middlesbrough, the lowest earners, made £1,063,135.

This season, £1.81bn has been given in prize money (£1.64bn) and parachute payments (£172m) combined.

Next year with the new TV deals kicking in, the club finishing bottom of the Premier League will make about the same as this season's highest earners!!

They may not have had one written in at the start but I'd be amazed if they were not all offered/promised something during the season.

Genuinely can't believe Leicester fans have sunk so low, so quickly.

Goes to show why, aside from historical Spurs connections, football is really in the doldrums right now. Generally dislikable blokes playing in front of a generally dislikable audience and covered by a generally dislikable media, all of whom seem to be actively trying to troll you at all times.

Can see why record numbers of people are thinking, "Fuck it, I've got a better use of my time"
Not sure what you mean by this, but...

Blokes playing: equal likeability then as now (working class bloke likes playing football -- is good at it -- gets paid a lot more now)
Audience: more likeable now than then (more women, children and non-whites in the crowd -- less hooliganism, racism and homophobia)
Media: more likeable then than now (popular press no integrity whatsoever, in sport as elsewhere)

So Stobart publishes an article on Wanyama to Tottenham and reactions are varied on Saints web.

There's the calm and collected response

"So?"

There's the trying to be calm and collected - but not really succeeding - response

"HELLO WE KNOW HE'S GOING ITS NOT A SURPRISE. F*cking media have to make a drama out of everything."

There's the optimistic response :greedy:

"I'd rip their arm off for £25 m."

There's the bitter retort to that :shifty:

If it's Tottenham, I'd rip it off for free

And then, following various discussions on how much he should cost and whether they should sell to Tottenham at all, there's the one response we can all agree with... (y)

"I do love our summer meltdowns."

Me too, Saints fan, me too. It wouldn't be summer without them.

Search 'Coquelin' on Twitter, and you will see Arsenal fans strongly arguing with each other over the issue of Coquelin not giving up his shirt number (34) to Xhaka.

'Coquelin' is actually trending on Twitter because of this.

As long as it causes a punch up between themselves at their next home game they can argue about whatever the fuck they like. Morons.

Why on earth would people argue about number 34?

1-11 fine. Not Thirty-fucking-Four.

I feel old.

While your points are valid as to the falling viewing figures in this country and ticket sales, I don't think it's because people are losing interest, they are just fed up of being ripped off - having to pay for Sky and BT, overpriced tickets. Lots of people who want to watch just get a Kodi box or go to the pub.
