I kind of like the fact that people keep on saying that we need time to gel, we're still not a finished product, yet we sit here through 4 matches with 9 points and honestly, despite a relatively mediocre showing, we very nearly pulled out a draw at the Emirates.

I have no issue with clubs stating we're shit, that they are going to trounce us and that we're due a fall from grace. Unfortunately for them, I don't think half of these sides realize the kind of power we have in midfield and in defense to what's looking like a very skillful attack. 1 goal in 4 matches. Let that sink in.

We've got goals all over the pitch now. Sigurdsson, a guy who probably wouldn't have played much of a role today had Chadli been healthy, scored a brace. When you have that sort of threat to score from any situation, it's a sign of a very good side that's capable of big things.

I'll take needing time to gel and sitting 2nd in the table any day of the week, thanks very much.

Exactly. Credit where it's due: This is a side that is still "figuring each other out" but in the midst of that process is still putting together 3 point performances. It's quite incredible in my opinion. Should we be dropping points it would be completely justified. But, that's obviously not the case (bar Arsenal).

AVB laid the foundations last season. Well he tried to but the foundations were creaky or broken altogether with the injuries and departures etc.

He went after fixing the middle 3 hard and fast this summer and last Jan with Holtby. With that foundation - the one which his entire system simply cannot function without - it gives us a massively strong base with which to allow the other parts of the team work themselves into form and cohesion.

1. 28 attempts on goal

2. Conceded 1 goal in last 6 competitive games

LOL! :D
Aye. What pleases me about our defensive record is that it isn't a measure of just the defence's strength. It's a measure of our team's strength and that is truly the only way to be successful in the long term in the league.

Liverpool have been lucky so far to be honest...Not saying they aren't good, but their results are a bit misleading.

-Outplayed Stoke at home (which is natural) but still had to save a late PK to win 1-0.
-Were able to play vs Villa on a full week's rest whereas Villa had just played 2 very tough and well fought matches vs Arsenal/Chelsea, still barely won 1-0 and didn't really desrve it.
-Scored early vs United on a corner and held out, can't say they were the better side though.
-Now they get Swansea on a Monday when Swansea have to travel to Valencia for what they'll [probably] see as a more important game Thursday...not sure why an EL team is scheduled for a Monday, and Liverpool are on the winning end of that decision.

Admittedly they've been without Suarez which is a loss but Sturridge has been so good that I'm not sure replacing him with Suarez (once back) and moving Sturridge to a less favored position (which is what I assume will happen) will make a big difference.

Yeah, I was talking to a friend about how we could setup against Tromso on Thursday and as I was rattling off the side we could throw out there, while resting 5-6 "starters," and it left me in amazement to be honest. The side that AVB, Levy and Baldini have put together over the course of one season consists of proven quality, youngsters with enormous upside and a power/pace/craft that is hard to match when you look across the EPL. And to think we did it all while being financially savvy. I can't wait to see what we add to it next and how we move forward with our transfers because, as you mentioned, there's a very strong base in place now.

Pool are dangerous in the long term this season only - AND ONLY BECAUSE OF THIS - as a result of no European distractions. Their squad otherwise would be basked in the daylight that would be between them and whoever finished 5th.

But a danger they remain. Go on a couple of longish streaks of good results and they'll be right up there.

Yep. First time ever in my Spurs life. Pick whoever, I'll be happy enough.* I love all our players.

*Assumes Lloris is in goal.

Liverpool was very fortunate against Stoke City with that Walters penalty (Seriously, why does that shithead take penalties, he's a terrible footballer). The double-save itself was fantastic by Mignolet, but when you take into account his previous 3 penalties went to the same spot, something I'm sure Mignolet was aware of, is absolute idiocy by Walters.

I think Liverpool, similar to us of a couple of years ago, have a fantastic First XI. They did great to add some depth in defense late in the window. But, their midfield is incredibly light in terms of depth. If Gerard or Lucas go down (Lucas being pretty much an inevitability) they will have to rely on Allen or Henderson to fill the void. Both of those players, in my most honest opinion, are not Top 4 quality. It'll be interesting to see how they handle it should their starting holding 2 go down with injury.

It truly is incredible. I'm still hoping we can add a young #9 in January with maybe Adebayor on the way out. That would really be the cherry on top for me.

When you look at what we put on the bench today:

Friedel, Kaboul, Naughton, Holtby, Lamela, Sandro, Defoe.

And compare that to Arsenal:

Fabianski, Vermaelen, Monreal, Frimpong, Ryo, Akpom, Gnabry.

We've got options for any situation. Arsenal had better hope they continue to have the lead late until their injuries clear up because they have 0 options as far as impact subs right now.

Arsenal are screwed when the inevitable winter injuries start to kick in.

If Ramsey is injured, they are screwed. He's been their best player this season. He's playing like a man possessed and if he goes down, they would lose so much from their current setup.

Spanners:

Only four games into the season and the top six are "the top six". It's a shame that The Premiership has become so predictable. Remember the days when an Ipswich or a Villa could be involved, or even a West Ham team with Mc and Cottee up front.
Since when have Tottenham always been in the top 6?
I hate them, but they're top 6 almost consistently since 2004

Citeh on the other hand are much more of a newcomer to that boring sector
It's odd really - in 2007/8 and 2008/9 Spurs and Man City were firmly wedged in a midtable three......with West Ham.....
But gents, what this shows is anyone can eventually break the top 6.

Sh*t teams like Chelsea, Arsenal and now Tottenham and Man City have risen to the next level.

We just need to find our foreign owner...
If there was a poll where you had to pick the top six, I would estimate that 95% would answer with the current top six. It wasn't that way many years back, that's all I'm saying. It's all about the money nowadays. I hope I'm wrong, but the top six will be Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs, and probably by a big margin.

I was just pointing out that we haven't even completed four games yet and the top six are in place.
At Spurs away would it be wrong to sing "Where's your monkey gone, where's your monkey gone?"
I suppose you'll need to do something to distract yourselves from the gaping you'll be receiving.

Goons:

Has soldado scored for them from an open play yet?
Only against Dinamo Tbilsi, a Georgian team. Heard he missed a lot of easy chances today. Could still pull a Giroud and improve with time, but not looking like he's worth the money so far. I mean, a striker who costed close to 30 million pounds should slot straight into the team and score goals. Look at Aguero he costed only a few million pounds more and scored goals straight away and won City the title.
Fair enough really, it was a good performance. It was a signing where he could've continued to stagnate or he could've really pushed on, right now it's looking like the latter. He is looking a fine player, and will provide them with the creativity they so desperately need. Early days yet but for the money he is looking like an important player for them, especially when you consider Holtby is the only other player they have that resembles anything close to a creative midfielder.
We played them at the right time. They will improve as the season goes on, but so will we.
Bit soon to tell since he's played what 1 game for them? Most of the people that watch the dutch league I've read describing him don't seem to rate him for some reason so we'll see how he does as the season goes on I guess.

One thing is for sure though, he is no Özil.
Did Lamela play today and how was his performance?

I see Eriksen played well today and make an assist. i like him he is good player.
Not so much laughing over there these days.

Their other football thread comments on our game:

*crickets*

They then pipe up after a few drinks later this evening. Predictably it soon turns into discussion about licking men's studs as it always does when you introduce alcohol into a gooner:

So happy for Eriksen. So many doubters, and then he goes and puts in a motm performance in his debut.

Said it before and I'll say it again - I think he'd accomplished everything he possible could at Ajax given the type of player that he is.
Look how they masturbate themselves to death over Eriksen
icon_lol.gif
Really need someone to throw a bomb in that studio.
Yeah, he's not fit to lick Özil's studs
Özil? he not even fit to lick Cazorla Studs.
Cazorla? He's not even fit to lick Ramsey's studs.
Özil? Cazorla? Ramsey? STUDS?!

Not fit to breathe Wilshere's air.
Call me when this guy does more for Spuds then Rozza has done for Arsenal.

He won't be able too. Cause if he is good enough he won't be at Spuds for long
icon_lol.gif
LOL. One mega-signing in the last decade and they suddenly don't haemorrhage their best players anymore. Wenger has them rolling over for a quick tummy tickle. It's masterful the way he toys with them really. Give him credit.

I love that Arsenal will insist on comparing our 11m signing of Eriksen, who is 21 years old, to their 40m signing of Ozil, who is 24 years old. Congratulations, Arsenal. You spent a lot of money on a player you didn't really need.
