We all like ready other fans big us up, but I am not convinced we will make top 4 yet...We need to start winning a lot of games before I believe its possible. Until then we're still far too inconsistent to say where we'll finish, no matter who's fans' opinions I read.
We have a harder run in from April on wards which will be really tough. We have massive games v top 4 rivals Man Utd and Liverpool (back to back) that could decide our season. If you look at the last 7 games, each team plays the below number of tough games on paper (of course anything can happen in any game in the PL).

Spurs - 5: Liverpool, Man Utd, Stoke (bogey team), Chelsea, Newcastle (bogey team).
Man Utd - 3: Everton, Spurs & Leicester.
Leicester - 3: Man Utd, Everton & Chelsea.
Liverpool - 2: Spurs & Stoke (bogey team).
Man City - 2: Chelsea & Arsenal
Arsenal - 1: Man City.

Edit: It's actually 6 for us, as we have only beaten West Brom once in the last 5 league games.

in he last 6-7 years we have slowly killed the bogey matches off, not beating Arsenal at the Library, not beating Yanited at OT, not beating any of the old sky 4, not beating Chelsea.

this season if we still have the legs, we really need to change 2 of those horrid stats, beating Yanited and Chelscum. if you offered me 10 points from April id grab it with both hands, but win against those 2 would make my birthday month very enjoyable.

I just hope we are somewhere clear of 4th in the top 3 by time we play Newcastle

I would grab the 10 points for April, as long as the loss wasn't v Utd or Liverpool

Just realised West Brom is a bogey team too, so that's 6 of the last 7 games that will be difficult on paper.

Unless you're in the ground you have no idea...TV companies will position mics and change levels as they please.

Agree, I've been to games in the past where we've been loud as buggery, then you watch on MOTD and all you can hear is the away fans!!!

With Europa and the FA Cup, I believe we could potentially play 30 more games than Leicester when the season's over. That's quite a bit. I think it's best for them to be out of other competitions. They don't have the depth.
I think it's 30 games between now and the end of the season, not 30 more than Leicester. There's now way that our FA Cup and Europa league knock out stages add up to 30.

Kind of reinforces my feelings that I can't hate Man City. Much rather see them win the title than anyone else, if it ain't going to be us.

For me it's just that I dislike them far less than any of the other usual title contenders. Would hate to see Van Gaal lift a title with United and I can't stand Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

But we've hammered Newcastle at their own place. Beat them 3-1 and 4-0 in our last 2 games up there.

I think he means it will have been 30 total including the rounds already played but even then I only count 19 if we make the final of both cups we are in (which I still a lot and 15 extra games on top of the league between now and the end of the season), assuming there are no replays.

Agree...plus my Fiancee is a City fan and we live about 10 mins from the ground so I have to say that!

I always think back to the 2009/10 season, we fluffed it big time against Pompey in the FA Cup semi then had to face Arsenal and Chelsea in the space of 3 days and beat them both, then went to City and won 1-0, we can do it!

From Bluemoon:

breezed past Leicester with a second string proving they have a good enough squad to cope with the added games they've got from being in 3 competitions. With the way we and Arsenal are dropping points you can't discount Spurs for the title, very very consistent. I genuinely think Pochettino is the best manager in the country. There's no real superstars in that spurs side, especially compared to what they've had in the recent past but the manager has got every single player playing at and beyond their potential and they all know their roles in the side. They play good football at a good fast intensity, If they keep him and their better players and add in the summer they'll be a match for anybody. I do however think Pochettino will end up at Madrid/Barca sooner rather than later though, I just hope the rags don't go for him beforehand as he could be exactly what they need to get back in amongst the trophies.

I must admit I really like Pochettino. I think if he can get the correct additions in the summer and get those current players fighting even harder than this season then I reckon they have just as much a chance of winning the league than anybody else. Like you said they don't have any superstars, albeit there are one or two there like Kane and Alli who I think could just be on their way to becoming so. I have a feeling Spurs may gamble with what they have at the moment and do what they need to do in the summer. Kane needs back up but they risk overpaying for a player that may not necessarily improve them as there isn't that much quality available at the moment, and also possibly ruin some of the team chemistry. If they finish top 4 - which I think they will regardless of any signings this month - then they will have not only attract better players but also have a bigger pond to fish in.

I think they'll finish top 4 too, at Leicester's expense with United scrapping 4th. That should be enough for them to fend off any interest in their players and manager, and as you say, they'll find it a lot easier to attract the players in the next bracket once they do that. They're a wealthy club that will have a shed load of money coming in from the champions league and new tv deals so they'll have plenty to spend. if they can use the money, champions league and being in London to go out and attract 1-2 genuine top quality players and then fill out their squad, particularly upfront, they'll be well set to finally become a team that can establish themselves as genuine yearly challengers and not just Europa league regulars. Having said all that, if they lose Pochettino they will probably end up at square one again, I believe he's that good.

think they are nailed on for a top 4 slot, tough game coming up at our gaff in next few weeks against them

They appear to have created an excellent balance throughout their squad, they have a mixture of youth and experience along with ability and industry, players from previous regimes who were struggling to make an impact have also come good. They have made some very astute signings and they have a seemingly excellent production line......there appears to be a real feel good factor flowing through their club and under the stewardship of a very savvy and talented manager in Pochettino they are becoming a genuine threat to our trophy ambitions.

raise your game City, dont let these ****s anywhere near the title.

Really hope they break into the top four, though think a title chase is outside their reach, too many draws but for the first time in a while they appear to be a team rather than a disorganised mess or one man show.

Spurs have been here before on a few occasions, hope they make top 4 at expense of the rags, but I'm gonna hold fire before I start blowing smoke up their arises.

Sensible opposition fans. Well I never.

I make it that we have a maximum of 14 games left in the cups, if we are getting to both finals.
4 x 2 leg rounds in the Europa, plus the final = 9
4th Round to Final of FA = 5 (assuming no replays).
Add that on to 16 PL games and it leaves us with potentially 30 games still to play.
Will have been 61 games in total for the season if we get to both finals....

Similar to back in the glory years when we played league, FA cup and european games.
But on really heavy pitches with those leather lace up balls that soaked up the water.
Used to smoke and drink and nowhere near the training of todays players:rolleyes:

Well maybe not still using those balls:whistle:

I must admit I never commented on the Newcastle fixture, I was kind of hinting that we haven't beat Chelscum at SB since 1989, and not beat Yanited at home for ages 10? years

I genuinely think those games of City and Chelsea being away could work in our favour. We play better against teams that come out at us as it creates the space for the front 4's movement. The only thing we need to be concerned about is taking our chances which we didn't against Everton and Arsenal.

We beat Man U away twice in recent years. Only 2 and 3 seasons ago.

...from holmesdale.net...(whatever the fuck that is...)

Current form vs their current form suggests we may well not get anything. So a good time to change it up and try something new. Would suprise then if we did. Gayle and Wickham upfront please!

So true. We're not gonna win all our games, you've got to be realistic. I can see Spurs winning but we've beat some good sides, so give the guys a chance, last two games if we'd put away our early chances they would've been different stories.

I think with Pards its either win win win or lose lose lose ; confidence from previous game seems to be a pointer to whats next. So im not expecting a win!

Think we will loose this one but I really hope I`m wrong. We need some new blood or we will shurely drop down the to relagation sone, mark my words just been looking in my Chrystal bowl , and it is bad news.

Well I've been looking into my glass ball and see a tall dark stranger saving a penalty and 3 points in the bag for a bird on a badge. Not sure who though

We've got a decent history of turning them over against our form.

Losing 4-0 to Man City at the Etihad seems to be the end of some peoples world
grin.gif
We even played well against City (admittedly not creating many chances in the game). I've never expected us to even Draw against City.

Another tough game but we'll put another good shift in. City was never a '4-0 loss performance', far from it imo.
I'm not expecting too much other than another decent performance against another top side. Anything else will be a bonus.

First goal will be massive on Saturday. If they score first the crowd and possibly the players will see no way back and the heads could drop. We don't lose many games after going in front so hopefully we score first. Being honest would take a draw now.

Can't see us beating spurs on Saturday without a new striker coming in before Saturday thought palace would of done there transfer business early considering we haven't scored for 5 games and the injuries we have had now it's going to be a panic buy on the last day of the window typical palace nothing changes there either

We have to be very mindful of Alderweireld pinging long balls up to Alli.Alderweireld hits a terrific long pass and Alli looks to get on to the end of them when he has the ball.Alli scored the other day latching on to a pass from the Belgian defender.

But Spurs are top of the form table and we’re bottom, this doesn't reflect either clubs actual class, so something will change soon.

I think, before saturday we had not been dobbed by more than 3 goals in a match since our return to the prem( thats 2.5 seasons), if that stat is true then it shows that we don 't get rolled easy- that is the minimun most of would expect from palace- that they don't fold.
We can win against spurs.

we are capable of surprising quality teams - and were in danger of being two goals up at Manchester City. Why not look at Tottenham from another direction - they have a three point collection expectation. If we draw, we take two points from them, a win takes all three.

Tottenham have won 5 of their last 8 games and we haven't scored in the last 5 league games so it is understanadble that there are those amongst us who are not confident of getting any points on Saturday.Supporters support Palace through thick and thin and often are totally realistic as to our prospects in individual games.
