I see Sky Sports are banging on about Salah going to Barca or Madrid again. Plus the whole they need to win something bollocks.

I thought they only say that about Kane & Spurs?

North London derby is bigger for Arsenal than Totenham, says Paul Merson

Sunday's north London derby is a bigger game for Arsenal than Tottenham, according to former Gunners star Paul Merson.

The two city rivals go head to head at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon, live on Sky Sports Premier League, separated by just three points in the table.

Were Unai Emery's side to get the better of Tottenham on Super Sunday, they would move above their rivals into the Champions League places.

"This game this weekend is a bigger game for Arsenal than Tottenham, that is how it has swung really," Merson told The Debate.

"The pressure is on Arsenal to perform and win the game - if Arsenal do not win this game, you are going to go away from here saying, 'Tottenham are just getting away from Arsenal.'

"If Tottenham play like they did last weekend against Chelsea, they cannot lose. But, that has only been once this season and they have not been great, despite having their best start.

"But they have not played anything like they did the season before."

Arsenal have surprised many this season after going on an 18-game unbeaten run, however, Sunday's clash with Spurs will represent their progress under their new Spanish manager, says Tim Sherwood.

"It gives everyone belief that they can possibly get into the top four," the former Spurs midfielder and manager said.

"They are going to get nearer towards Tottenham and if they can keep their eye on Tottenham and finish above them, then they will finish in the top four.

"So this game will be a good measure of how far they have come - they played some big teams earlier in the season and fell short.

"The Liverpool performance was good at the Emirates and they will need that sort of performance again and Tottenham not to be on song.

"Tottenham have the best players, I believe, but the best players do not always win the game. Sometimes the best team do on the day and I think they will need everything to fall their way on the weekend to get a result."

Yeah he's a little rat.

Chris Sutton is a right twat as well.

He may well be, but I always get the impression that he enjoys winding people up, especially Robbie Savage, so he can't be all that bad. I'd say he's more 'mischievous' than twattish.

Even Merson's combined XI only has two gooners

we had this last season and it most probably gave the goons the hump that they lifted their game, and our players thinking it was already won.

if we perform anything like we did v Chelsea I believe we should do it, if we don't get out of 2nd gear like most of the season we might get lucky to grab a draw. all I hope for is that if the ref or officials makes a mistake/s the mistakes are even and doesn't decide the result unless the pendulum falls our way

Hard to criticise Poch though, he is managing the squad the right way and is trying to utilise the squad the best of his ability/knowledge and IMO he's doing a stellar job.
Spot on.

I also believe he's improved his substitutions (I no longer expect him to wait until 70+ mins to make his first sub), and positioning players where they're most effective. Sissoko being a prime example.

Lamela and Moura are 'worse' players or rather less effective. I love Moura but id go for the players in form in which case that would have been Son and Eriksen. There would have been no guarantees we would have scored but the momentum from the Chelsea game shouldnt be understated.

I agree with fitness, which like you say we know not a lot about, but im going on the basis of the info we have to hand and it seems like they are fit. Lets not forget, Son and Eriksen havent played much recently partly due to injuries so i would hazard a guess theyre relatively fit.

Anyways as mentioned, maybe because I was like really nervous as the game dragged on that im now thinking this way. I think Eriksen is integral to our game and that was evident when he came on. Lamela I do rate but when he plays we dont really keep the ball al that well.

I disagree with you that we needed to get game done in the first hour, because if you look at our record of conceding after scoring this seeing, it's been poor, we have scored first a lot of games and either blown the win or won 2-1,3-1 so to get Inter to drop deeper and deeper and hold what they had and then bring Son and Eriksen on to take the lead late meant we would win on the head to head. Would have been terrible to go 2-0 up early only to sit back and concede.

I saw an interesting stat the other day. Arsenal have, as a team, run further than any other team. Their new manager has them working hard. What was more surprising to me was that we were 2nd in that list. Having watched all our games I thought our work rate had dropped off significantly compared to previous years and that was probably partly due to the WC summer. This weekend will be a very tough game against Arsenal, probably the toughest NLD for a few years.

I wouldnt say terrible because it would mean they had to come at us and would have left holes for players like Son to attack the space.

It would have been far worse going 1-0 down, particularly against an Italian team. We struggled to break down PSV in the second half so you can only imagine against an Italian side.

It was a risk either way and as I said, maybe because it was a crucial game id be more comfortable going all out than playing the patient game - I was bricking it dude.
