Some twoddle from Jamie Redknapp, I assume based on a performance for a different team from a player clearly not match-sharp...

"Eric Dier is not the player he was last season," Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

"There was almost a strut to him last year with Tottenham and England, but I feel Victor Wanyama has had an effect on him.

"There's that little competition for places and he is slightly lacking in confidence."

Dier's inclusion ahead of Wayne Rooney represented a marked effort to add more impetus to the Three Lions' ranks but Redknapp believes the Spurs man was too keen to play it safe in Ljubljana.

"He was caught twice with back passes in the first half.

"When you're playing well, your first thought is to play the ball forward but he was trying to take the safe option.

"He'll get through this and he could be England's captain one day, but no doubt it's made a difference to his game," Redknapp added.

That's interesting considering it was only a few days ago that Jamie Redknapp said that Dier should be England's next permanent, long-term captain.

I dont think Dier is fully fit yet and as such is a bit off the pace - he didnt play well for England against Slovenia but then who did? He will be grand but it might take a month to get him back to where he needs to be.

it can sometimes effect a player knowing they have such a quality cover, plus I believe he made more apps for us in all comps last season, then straight into the Euros which could of dented a lot of players confidence.

he will bounce back, the sooner the better

Both Lawro and Merson are tipping us to win at the Hawthorns and keep a clean sheet (2-0 and 3-0 predictions respectively).

For most of last season, people were asking how Spurs would do if Harry Kane got injured but now we know, and they can definitely cope without him.

West Brom have made a solid start to the season but this Tottenham team look very convincing at the moment, and they are going to be hard to stop.
Lawro's prediction: 0-2

Tottenham are playing very well at the moment and while the Man City result was brilliant, these are the types of games that win you Premier League titles.

If Harry Kane got injured last season you couldn't see Spurs winning a game for toffee. Now it seems like nothing has changed despite his absence, which is a massive compliment to the other players.

West Brom have turned the corner but I have been majorly impressed by Tottenham.
PAUL PREDICTS: 0-3

Suddenly I'm nervous!

Well when you look forward and see Theo Walnut and Jesse Lingard I imagine row Z is a more enticing prospect...

Ferguson - like the Munich air crash - gave the club the popularity that formed the basis for commercial exploitation. Without products to sell and market placement to give them availability to the potential market, there would have been no exploitation of the on-field success and the interest it produced. Freedman was replaceable because he set up a business model that wasn't dependent on his personal involvement, but without him - or somebody like him - United would have had no more commercial success than any other Premier League Club. If he'd stayed at Spurs, United, with all of their on-field success, would possibly still be playing catch-up to us in commercial terms.
I think this is a very good point actually, and I'll cite Liverpool as an example of what happens if you don't have the right framework in place. During the Utd success years, pool were still high profile in Europe, winning the CL, yet they were a shambles commercially, losing huge amounts of money seasonally despite one of the biggest fan bases in the World. That was why they were changing hands regularly with buyers having to inject huge amounts of cash in an effort to keep up with their peers.

A bit of a break will have helped Eric and he will come back stronger. On another note, my dog knows more about football than Jamie Redknapp.

Yeah but Redknapp's dog is expert in finance, investments and tax avoidance.

European exit would aid Spurs’ Premier League title hunt – Nevin
Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin says Tottenham’s bid to win the Premier League title would be aided by an early exit from the Champions League.

Spurs are currently second in the Premier League, while also competing in the Champions League group stage.

“I think they’re a strong side but whether they’ve got enough strength in depth to keep it going in the Premier League and the Champions League is questionable,” said Nevin.

“If they want to be challengers and maybe even win the Premier League, the best thing that could happen to them is to be knocked out of the Champions League pretty early.

“I think both competitions are too much for them with the limited depth of their squad,” he added.

Limited depth? What the fuck is he on about? 3 key players didn't start against City and we still beat them.

The media are a joke.

If you're in the Champions League you take it seriously and try to go as far as you can!

FFS, encouraging a team to go out to focus on the league in one breath at the same as lambasting teams for not taking the FA Cup seriously with the next...

You cannot win with these pricks.

Roy Keane has dismissed Tottenham’s chances of Premier League title glory, saying Mauricio Pochettino’s men have “no chance” despite their unbeaten start to the season.

Spurs find themselves third and only one point off leaders Manchester City having started the new campaign well with five wins and three draws from their opening eight matches.

Pochettino’s side haven’t won the league title since 1961 but their unbeaten start to the season has had some pundits wondering whether it could be their year.

However, former Manchester United midfielder Keane doesn’t rate the north Londoners’ chances of lifting the title come May.

”It’s in their own hands, (Qualifying for Champions League knock out stages) but this idea the can they can win the Premier League, I think no chance,” Keane told ITV.

Despite not being convinced by their Premier League credentials, Keane thinks Tottenham need to start winning trophies to progress further as a club.

“I don’t care, I can’t see them winning the Premier League, but they are progressing really well as a football club. It’s now about getting their hands on a trophy, what I mean is the FA Cup or League cup,” the Irishman added.
