Frankly I think our squad need some depth in CM and attack. Mason and Caroll just cannot play Dembele position and its like fitting a square peg in a round hole. We should rotate the players but we need a quality bench. Right now it is still not convincing given Janssen only had one season of dutch top flight and Njie had a decent season with Lyon two season ago while injured last yr as back up. Even GKN had only one yr of top flight in Ligue 1...... and he wasn't Marseilles best player.

The only proven quality was Wanyama who had 3 season of top flight under his belt.... so if I am a pundit, I will not be convince if spurs can go far in UCL or sustain a challenge for the title. No doubt our starting eleven is one of the strongest in Europe but I cant say about the bench esp for CM position. Just look at the profile of players that Dortmund and Athletico are buying and compared to ours...... so I think our potential is limited due to the bench or should I say limited funds.

Going by the recent itk it would appear that after GKN comes in that is our transfer business done, like yourself i still have concerns over midfield positions.
Imo we still need someone who can unlock the door against banked defences especially at home, and yes the forward position still looks light and not convinced by son there should we pick up a few injuries as last year we got lucky with this.

Although a few of the pundits (i.e., Neville) are pretty thoughtful, most of them are swayed, consciously or unconsciously, by the team loyalties, and the absurd barrage of press about the abiding greatness of the Sky-5, and the awesome qualities of (self-proclaimed) manager-gods, "born winners", or whatever-the-hell they get sold as...

Look how accurate the pundits were last year...

Sadly though the Sky 5 will invariably be up there in some kind of order just purely down to the fact that even if they have a shit season like last year they can throw obscene amounts of money at the problem to recruit top managers and players. We have to box clever on the other hand...

TIL people that post in here are pundits.

To be fair they're probably more knowledgeable than the ones on TV.

Just because you've played professionally does not give you the right to believe you know everything there is to know about the game. Particularly the older pundits that last kicked a ball 20-30 years ago.

Actually Son is an AM not a striker.... while Njie is actually a 2nd striker that plays off the main which doesnt exactly suit him in our 4231 system. Assuming GKN comes and both Njie/Chadli goes, we might be a bit light there though Mason can double up if he stays.

However if we can move Caroll/Mason then we should get a proper CM like Nemanja Gudelj to rotate with Dembele, I would rate our squad able to challenge on all front (incl kids playing) without adding more AM unless we can sign Isco. :ROFLMAO:

Most pundits have little understanding of other teams other than their own... so they usually sprout rubbish unless he had follow the team at least 2 yrs to have a good grasp of what is happening

Isco is a great shout but no chance of him arriving at spurs sadly.

I fully agree, pundits that actually bring anything to the table are few and far between. I just meant that there's not much stuff from pundits being posted in this thread, just our own fans discussing the team. Which can be interesting enough, but maybe better suited to other threads.

Didn't the last ITK indicate that there might be another out of the blue signing if things can be worked in our favour.......Isco? Why not.....a man can dream(y)

Yes a man can dream but at the money he would go for would be beyond the dreams of reality lol.

Exactly.

Jamie Redknapp on SSN just now was asked if we could win the title and he was absolutely full of praise for us, he said he saw no reason why not, that he thought we could go close and that although people were talking about Mourinho, Conte and Guardiola that Pochettino is as good as any of them.

Although all that'll be largely ignored because it goes against SC's idiotic 'Jamie is a ****' narrative.

Clive Allen on Vincent Janssen:

"Harry will benefit from Janssen coming to the club, no question,” Allen told The Mirror.

“For a start, it will give the manager Mauricio Pochettino another option if he feels Harry needs a break. And just as importantly, it will be competition for Harry.

“If he feels his place is under threat, it's bound to add something to his game. I know I felt like that and I am sure most players do – that if someone comes in and does well in your position, you know you may have to fight to get back in the team.”

He is right, I feel like we and maybe Liverpool are the only teams who are building on solid foundations and ours were significantly more solid than theirs last season. Everybody has wrote us off but nobody moves the ball about like we do and nobody has a defence which is as solid as us at the moment. That might change and things might click for other teams but we have a great chance if we take advantage with a solid start.

I hate hearing and reading this
How shit they were last year and how it won't happen again.

It's a major discredit to other teams.

Maybe they appeared shit not because they suddenly sold of their best players or didn't perform (Chelsea excluded) but because at least 10 clubs other than the usual suspects are really really good now and aren't push overs
Long gone are days when the usual 4 can just waltz around and guarantee points against every other club not in that top 4 bracket. And just fear dropping points in the big hyped sky supposed title clash games

If youre gonna play away to ourselves, West ham, Liverpool, Leicester, Everton, Southampton, Watford, Stoke, palace then you gotta be playing at the top of your game now or you'll likely get done

Spot on - see Our fullbacks last year as evidence of this.
