Saw a TV documentary many years ago where the TV crew followed Dyer about. He went into car show rooms and looked at all sorts of supercars. When he didn't buy one he was asked why not and he said he either owned or had owned all of them. When he couldn't think of anything else to buy for himself he bought the most disgusting, blingy watch. It was huge, covered in diamonds and jewels and cost (if I remember rightly) £65,000. He said he didn't know what else to buy. That has been an abiding memory for me and always springs to mind when people talk about what players earn or 'are worth'. They generally have more money than they know what to with but continually expect more.

EDIT; I suppose the fact that Dyer ended up eating worms in the jungle to pay his debts shows that if you are a big enough bell end, it is possible to spunk more money than you could reasonably shake a stick at.

Saw the thread title, thought he'd died.

To be fair, it wouldn't have surprised me. He always was a bit injury-prone. :cautious:

Anyway, I'm going to go against the grain here and say I've got a lot of time for Kieron Dyer. He cost West Ham £6m. For four years, he picked up wages of between £60k and £83k (depending on which figures you believe) as well as at least half a million for image rights and loyalty fees. When he left on a free four years later, he was West Ham's top earner, despite having only made it onto the pitch 30 times and having scored the grand total of 0 goals as an attacking midfielder. Oh, and while he was there, West Ham got relegated.

Fucking legend in my eyes.

Agenda-driven.. Always, before a big match.

Seems like such news never come up during international week.

For crying out loud, of course there are more stories and comments before a big match, its a big match and there will be more attention around the teams. Are you shocked about more articles about politics during the election or NFL commentary around Super Bowl Sunday? Big games happen, press conferences happen and pundits get asked questions to fill space, its not a conspiracy.

Not seen much mention that City were on a great run last year until we beat them... LINK

Tottenham deservedly ended Pep Guardiola's perfect Premier League start and underlined their own title credentials with a thrilling victory over Manchester City at White Hart Lane.

Guardiola had won his previous six games and 10 of his previous 11 matches in charge, but City were outplayed by a vibrant Spurs who moved second in the table and are now the league's only unbeaten team.

Was certainly money well spent on Newcastle's behalf, shows the absolute stupidity of him not to wonder how this would make himself look, the little runt-toad cock.

He was earning so much to secure a fantastic future for himself, that he needed to sell his soul to all the half witted ITV viewers to star in " I'm a Celebrity get me out of here" to help pay off his debts.

Bit disappointed JJ is indulging him though

Or maybe Dyer is trying to actually highlight the point most in here are making! He was a lazy layabout always injured and he still got paid more than a high performing International at Spurs 15 years later in a league awash with cash

It’s kind of like pundits don’t realise we are building a £1bn stadium. Do they think we are doing this for shits and giggles;)

Genuinely reckon he's talking bollocks

He's probably not talking bollocks but twisting the facts, he was on what was rumored to be £65K a week back then. If we look at our players in the England squad you have,

Rose - £65K a week
Dier - £70K a week
Dele - £50K a week
Kane - £100K a week
Trippier - £65K a week
Winks - £20K a week (not really an England regular)

So as I thought he was talking about Dele at 21 comparing what he was earning when he was 23 or 24. Dele's next contract, if he signs one will take him up to the top earners at the club I would say.

Fuck off Dyer, you ****.

You probably spunked it all on Charlie, Double Diamond and bearded midget lady boys.

Fuck the hell off and stop trying to unsettle our players you little runt-toad cock.
From memory he won fuck all but then he did play for Newcastle and West ham.

Premier League half-term report: How do your team rate this season?

Tottenham, 5th

An outstanding Champions League campaign cannot mask the deficiencies of what has been a somewhat disappointing Premier League campaign so far - purely because they've not touched the heights expected after last season's excellence.

Spurs have struggled for consistency playing home games at Wembley and have failed in the big games away, losing at Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City.

Harry Kane is getting the goals but Dele Alli has fallen well below what had been expected of him.

Team rating:6/10.

Manager:Mauricio Pochettino is a high-class operator, as proven by his astute tactical approach to a draw in the Bernabeu and victory at Wembley against Real Madrid - but will hope for an even stronger second half of the season to maintain a top-four challenge.

McNulty doesn't have a clue what he's on about. Whilst his assessment of ours is about right. He's got Huddersfield down as a 7/10 - they should be a 9 all things considered and he's got Brighton down as 5.5 - at least a 7!

Then he's gone and given West Ham a 5 despite the travesty of a season they are having. Guy is an utter moron

Agree. No problems with his assessment of us but some of the other ratings are bizarre.

PAUL MERSON Column in Daily Star

Harry Kane for Real Madrid

HARRY KANE is the best striker in the world and what he has done this year just makes it more likely he will end up at Real Madrid.

By Paul Merson / Published 30th December 2017

To beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League record for goals in a calendar year is phenomenal. He’s scored more than Lionel Messi in 2017 and that sums up how good he is.

If Philippe Coutinho is worth £120m, then Kane must be worth at least £150m. The trouble is, Real Madrid will pay it.

They are in a bit of a mess at the moment and if Kane keeps going like this, I don’t see how they won’t come in for him next summer.

He is such a good player – probably the only world-class player in the England team. And he has done it the hard way. He has had to work for everything.

But he has a great attitude, works hard, improves every week and is so humble. You never see him get into trouble. He is the perfect player.

I can’t talk highly enough of him. He never settles for second best and is just getting better and better. Imagine how many goals he might score next year? Phenomenal.

But this is the problem for Tottenham. I don’t believe he’s the type who plays for money, so giving him a new contract won’t make a difference.

He plays because he loves the game and he wants to win things. But can he win them at Tottenham?

Mauricio Pochettino has already thrown away the domestic cups. He says they’re not important.

But Spurs are 21 points behind Manchester City. They are miles away from being title contenders. Over 38 games, how does that squad compete with City?

They have done wonders in the Champions League but at some point they are going to come up against a team who are mustard. Does anyone really think they can win it?

If Real Madrid had wiped the floor with them in the Champions League, then Kane would already be thinking: ‘What am I going to win here?’

Spurs have a new stadium to fund. And they got him for nothing. Are they really going to turn down £150m? Look at all the other players they’ve sold over the years.

Gareth Bale went. Dimitar Berbatov went. Even Kyle Walker went.

At some point, he is going to have a big decision to make. There aren’t many people who don’t want to play for Real Madrid. He would have to be tempted.

It’s a short career and you have to make the most of it.

If he goes there it would be terrible for the Premier League but it would be fantastic for the England team.

He would learn so much and would be playing with some of the best players in the world every week.

What he’s done this year should make him a real threat for England in Russia. But he will probably be shot by the time the World Cup comes around.

That’s why a lighter workload in Spain might actually be good for him and England.

Kane is likely to be a target for the big guns because he guarantees you 25 goals a season and that is priceless in today’s game.

Scarily, he might have scored MORE this year if his manager hadn’t kept taking him off in the last 15 minutes of matches.

If he keeps improving, the sky’s limit. I don’t see a better striker anywhere in the world.
