Whats the point in an "official" transfer request

According to SSN Modric has handed one in but i dont see what the point is? Writing down on a piece of paper the same thing that you have said in the media seems like a waste of time to me! The whole footballing world have known he wants to leave for a while!

I remember reading a while back that a player immediately loses a certain fee if sold after handing in a transfer request. Is this right? If so, then what Modric has done can only be bad for him?

that is correct - but he would still get that with or without a transfer request. What i am saying is, unless i have missed something, a transfer request is pointless and achieves nothing other than the losing of a bonus!

Handing in an official request changes nothing. It used to mean something when a player was entitled to 5% of any transfer fee if they did not ask for a transfer, so someone only asked if desperate to leave, so it had some impact.
Now those rules don't apply and players can negotiate whatever they can get, it is an irrelevance.
No more significant than if Levy wrote him a letter to say he was asking him to stay.

cool, thought that was the case! Modric really is making a fool of himself with all this (assuming it is true about him handing in a request).

All it achieves is Luka making himself look even more of a twat. Especially only a week after saying "I'd never hand in a transfer request, as that would be disrespectful"

It's not just a case of him losing that money though, the selling club gains that money by way of not having to give it to him, so a player giving an official TR can make the move better financially for the seller.

Though in our case it prob won't make much difference as we have said it's not about the money.

It changes things for the clubs, as most players have loyalty bonuses built in to their contracts. Luka's just given up his right to his 5 or 10% of the transfer fee.

See Keane as the prime example for this, Berba too.

Makes them look like the bad guy anyway, good for the clubs PR.

He already looked like a twat for saying that, handing in a TR would be disrespectful, but I'll just mouth of to the Daily Mail every week and keep hold of my "loyalty" bonus if I do get to move.

If I remember correctly most players have a loyalty clause in their contracts that states if they put in the written transfer request they lose that bonus.

The standard that is normally quoted is 10% of any profit we make from the sale of said player.

Not sure if the above is correct but it is what has been mentioned when players are in this situation in the past.

It's something far more tangible to roll up, splice with razor blades and shove up his ugly, deceitful, ungrateful little Arsenal:shrug:

The whole sorry situation will be stopped WHEN the EPL show some balls and PUNISH the Rich Clubs, who, constantly 'flaunt' their wealth amd show utter distain for the game. It is nothing more than the EPL and Country deserve....after years of mis-adventurous dealings?
I am strongly tempted to withdraw my 48 year support for a club that is 'in the pocket' of their 'wealthier' and 'illustrious' fellow clubs? I am disgusted by Levi and Rednapp....and see no future for the Club....in general....Ooh yes....a 5-8th place finish....alongside Bolton and Villa....but....no playing staff, apart from below average English Internationals.....A SAD day for a once great Club? SHAME on them all....The Cockrel has become a COCK...and it can act as no better an illustration of where we are headed? There is still HOPE....but...probably not for very long? Evil has triumphed.... and we are defeated....?

They don't make them like they used to that is correct.

As far as the rest of it goes. If you don't like it then fuck off.

Just a thought - maybe a transfer request would trigger some sort of release clause? Otherwise it does seem pointless.
