I'm from the States so i don't have a legacy story or anything of that sort. The team just grabbed me. Spurs play the right way, usually have some very good players and who cant love the lilywhite on navy blue. Still have yet to make it to the Lane.

It's worth it, really. Where in the States are you from? It's a fantastic atmosphere, but don't expect the ground to be surrounded by rolling hills...

I'm from NYC. I'd love to make it over there at some point this season. I was in London a couple of years back and caught a match at Upton Park, so as far a rolling hills are concerned, I'm not expecting any.

It's great compared to Upton Park, fully enclosed but fantastic on a sunny day. Spurs Community people meet at a couple of pubs nearby and it's worth meeting up for a drink beforehand.

You're not Orlando Bloom are you ?

I grew up in rural mid-Wales (my parents are English, I have an English accent and have lived in London for 15 years so I consider myself English) and have absolutely no idea how I came to be a Spurs fan.

My dad isn't really into football and is from Manchester so he's a Manure fan if anything. Just as long as I can remember playing and watching football I've loved Spurs. Never any ifs or buts. Never even glanced in any other direction

as far as i can remember it was 1987 around the time of the FA cup final against coventry age 10 but it might have been a bit earlier but that game comes to mind for some reason, my brother supported spurs before he passed away he was 18yrs at the time and i was 5yrs. after he died i took over supporting the club as i was young at the time my mother would tell me how much he loved tottenham and the way he would cut out newspaper clips and stick them together and make scrapbooks out of them which i still have to this day, sadly he never got to go to the lane for a game and every time i go i wonder what it would be like with him with me there but in some way i think he is, so thats how i start supporting the best club in the world and will till the day i die, so cheers bro and as he wrote on his books!!!!!!!!
up the spurs

For me, it was a combination of "follow your big brother" syndrome as well as catching them on TV during the 1991 FA Cup final triumph and Gascoigne's heartbreaking finale with us. Just went on from there and never stopped supporting Spurs since.

Hailing from Singapore, I have not been to the Lane either. Hope to visit it sometime soon as that would be a dream come true.

Yes, that's my understanding also. After my father died it all got to much running a hotel with 3 bars etc and plenty of the local social activity events, Lion's Club, Scramble Club etc so she sold up and opened up a small shop in Crewkerne specializing in hand made chocolates etc.
I've been back a few times to visit my parents graves in Somerton and the last time I was there, 5-6 years ago, it really saddened me to see the old place closed down and a large developers sign outside.....sign of the times I guess.

Thanks for your comments Sherborn and if you're ever this way plse look me up.

Spurs was the only path for me, when I was born my Dad was adamant that I was going to be called Glenn, but mum wouldn't have it. So they settled on Steven after Perryman/Archibald.

Dad even left mum in the hospital when I was 2 days old to go to the UEFA Cup Final with my Grandad, against Anderlecht!

Since then I have never ever contemplated anything other than Spurs, and with a season ticket this year they've taken over my life even more!

In the late 80's I was still playing football myself and Gary Lineker was my big big idol. Then in 1989 Lineker moved to Spurs and I tried and somehow managed to see some matches, which wasn't so easy at that time (I'm not based in England). Then in 1992 Lineker was gone, but Spurs stayed in my heart. And it always will!!! COME ON YOU SPURS!!! And thank you Gary for bringing Spurs in to my life!!! ;-)

My Dad was a season ticket holder for years, saw all the glory glory days etc and just installed it in to me from birth. Earliest memory of it all is us sitting in a restaurant which had closed doors for the day, me in my little Italia 90 tshirt (still got it now) and my Dad crying along with Gazza!! I was only 6 at the time.

I am so thankful for him teaching me the right way!!

I'm from sheffield and live in newcastle so obviously i support spurs

my family are all from enfield, my parents moved upto sheffield, where i was born and then i met and married a lass from newcastle ( we were at st.james in the away end when santini was in charge and we won 1-0, all the spurs fans were singing 'we're only here for the geordie slappers' and i was sat with my wife to be ) to be fair she bought the tickets as a present and when we got married it was in spurs colours
i've only known to support spurs and followed them from where ever i am, just have to love their kamikaze style of play

i get called the yorkshire cockney at work, and you all know how much they love cockneys in newcastle

Been supporting spurs since i was 1 my dad family all come from north london and are spurs mad :). My wifes mum lived opposite white hart lane, so both families are spurs MAD:razz:. I've seen the great times 80's ,missed the 60's due to being stuck in my dads sack .Watched the mini-revival in the 90's , suffered the pain in 87 final . Suffered the carling cup finals 2/4 not bad i guess 50% strike rate.

Looked on as many a fan and watched managers come and go, lets hope arry stays around a bit longer to help get a settled side/club.

All in all only one thing matters.

I was born on Saturday 13 December 1947 in Argyle Road, N17 with the Spurs ground just around the corner. Spurs were playing at home that very day against Birmingham and won and one of the first sounds I heard that afternoon as an hours old baby would have been the noise of the crowd inside the stadium.

My dad took me to games in the 1950s and propped me up on a terrace barrier from when I was virtually a toddler although I can't remember much about the very early days. I do remember being mightily impressed with Ted Ditchburn, Len Duquemin and Tommy Harmer. Aged 11, I was going to home games via the Boy's Gate for a few pence and watching the reserves and even the A team on alternate weeks. At around 13 or 14, I felt too old to do that and started going through the adult turnstyles. Once I began work in Fleet Street when I was 16, I went to most away games although I never attended a match abroad.

I could never wear red even though it suited my colouring. If I couldn't go to a game, I went into a depression and had withdrawal symptoms. When I was about 14, I recall having flu and sitting in my bed shedding tears over my autographed photo collection on one such evening, with only the light of the floodlights illuminating my bedroom. I miserably "failed" interviews that my mum made me attend to get a Saturday job until she finally gave up trying to achieve the impossible and unthinkable.

I collected autographs during school holidays and got to know all the younger players and many of the first team. The Double years and just beyond were unbelievable and served to cement my love for Tottenham and football, in that order. Winning a face-value ticket in a ballot held at the ground to go to the 1962 Cup Final against Burnley with my dad is something I will never ever forget.

During one summer holiday, a player came out from training at the Lane and saw me hanging about with my autograph collection and chatted to me. When I said I lived just around the corner, he invited himself round for a cup of tea. I babysat for him and his wife Joan not long after that and still keep in touch with them. It was Cliff Jones. When he asked me who my favourite player was that day, he was more than a bit miffed when I said it was John White and told me that was what all the girls said!

I was one of the last people to speak to John White on the day he died and I went to the funeral. I got to know a lot of the players over the years, babysat for several of them and even went out with a few of them when I was a bit older.

In the blood? Hooked on Hotspur? I should say so. No other choice was ever possible.

There are many other Spurs stories from my youth in other threads if you ever feel like finding them.

Are you Julie Welch who wrote the movie Those Glory Glory days? This is a must see movie for any Spurs fan - essentially it's about a young girl's adulation for Danny Blanchflower.

I started playing footie when I was 7. After a couple seasons I was visiting my grandfather and when he found out I was playing, he started to tell me stories about his dad. My great grandfather played for Spurs and I've supported them ever since. He died aged 29 whilst with the club and is buried in Tottenham Cemetery. Before the few games I've attended at the Lane we visit the gravesite for luck before going in. His headstone faces the stadium. John "Bristol" Jones - look him up if you like.

No I'm not and never have been Julie Welch but it has been said by some that the film which, of course I have seen, could have been based on some of my youthful Lilywhite experiences which are uncannily similar!

Danny was indeed a legend and a hero and somewhat aloof, not socialising much in public with the rest of the team so he always seemed somewhat mysterious and god-like to schoolkids like myself. Possessing a desert-dry wit and highly intelligent, something which came across in his chess-like mastery of the pitch, he wrote his own books and newspaper columns whereas most sports personalities have them ghosted. He and Bill Nicholson planned the campaign to win the Double together, down to the last and finest detail. Those were exciting times.

The best captain, in the real sense of the word, I have ever seen on a football pitch and the way he died was devastatingly sad.

I am ashamed to say when I was little I supported Man Utd. I was a typical glory hunting little swine but came to my senses when I was about 8 and realised how stupid it was to support a team I have no links to and little chance of ever seeing. My brother supported Tottenham and I liked Darren Anderton and the kit- so I became a fan of the greatest club in the world!

It was the best decision I ever made. Despite all the ups and downs and false dawns I love the club to bits and wouldn't have it any other way. COYS!
