Where are the 65 goals going to come from?

Over the past few seasons Spurs have had a top class strikeforce without a midfield goal scoring threat to back it up. Last season due to injury, Robinson's continued poor form, and an inability to defend set pieces, we didn't have a dense either. We've now lost Defoe and Keane (40 goals plus from one position when played as a tag team) and are most likely to lose Berbatov (25 goals per season). That's 65 goals per season we'll need to find from elsewhere. Someone highlighted that Gomes will not let in as many as Robinson which is probably true but we will still need to score a lot of goals to make up for the loss of a top class strikeforce (Defoe, Keane, Berbatov). Althought Bent has scored for fun in preseason, it is only for fun, and it remains to be seen if he can maintain a good scoring rate. It is also not certain that any of the likely replacements will be as good either. Arshavin (now no longer coming???) has never been a high scoring striker, why should we think that he could score 20 goals per season plus for Spurs. Bentley, Modric, and Dos Santos, will need to score a lot more goals than our previous midfield to compensate for the lack of goals from our strikers. Assuming we sell Berbatov of course.

well, hopefully we'll keep the ball a bit more, rather than just punt it up to berbs and keano. the result being we won't need to score as many because we'll conceed less. we also won't be having a defence made up of dawson, kaboul, chimbonda and zokora. plus, a more creative midfield. 10 teams finished above us without berbs and keano last year, so i'm sure we'll cope.

It's already proven that Bent has a good scoring rate - from the amount of time he's had on the pitch he's given a very decent return and he's shown he's more than capable of banging in 20+ a season with Charlton.

I think our new attacking mids will chip in with a fair few goals but I do think we need another big-scoring striker if Berba goes.

all of the bleedin' shop.

Bent, Bale, Modric, dos Santos, Jenas, Bentley are all capable of scoring regularly

bent will score quite a few and whoever comes in to replace berbs will also add to that
and i suspect gio, modric and bentley to chip in too!
additionally i don't expect us to have to score 6 to win games.

We don't need 65 goals if only we can concede a few less.

The reason we needed 65 goals from 3 players last season is because we couldn't defend for shit, and had one of the worst defensive records in the league. I'd rather win games this season 2-0 than 4-2.

Sorry, but Berbatov's league goals return is very average. 15 goals last season seems OK, but consider that 4 of those goals came in 1 game, 11 in the other 37 matches isn't really impressive at all.

If our aim is to get CL qualification, we need a striker who will get 20+. I think Bent can do this with the right midfield behind him.

our aim must be to get 100+ goals again

how about these possible scores

23 Bent 23 Berbs (or his replacement) - needs to be proper lead striker not an Arshavin type) 10 GDS 8 Bentley 8 JJ 6 Modric 6 Bale 5 AL 4 Hudd 2 Daws 2 King 2 Woody 2 Gilberto 2 og 1 Gunter/Hutton 1 BAE 1 Bostock/Pekhart/anyone else who plays for us

that makes 106- and none of them seem outlandish targets- all depends on Cup runs of course - but I expect at least 2 good Cup runs

Yep, pretty much agree.
Think most people are suggestive of the right things, i.e. hopefully we concede less and our midfield (very likely) will score more goals. The way Ramos will play will benefit Bent, so we have to hope his confidence carries o the regular season - he should be good for 20.

Bent - 20 goals (best case scenario)
Modric - 10 goals
Bentley - 10 goals
Jenas - 10 goals
Dos Santos - 5 goals
Lennon - 5 goals
Others - 10 goals

This means we will score 70 goals in the entire season. We are 30 goals short of last season. There is no way in hell we can trust our defence, so we need to maintain our scoring record.

We need at least 1 more 20 goals+ striker.
