This is so difficult because he's done it. He left us to win things and did it.

Ranking? All of the double winning team followed by Greaves, Jennings, Hoddle and King but they were different days.

Why did Real Madrid buy him? Because he was top quality but Ronaldo over shadowed him, he had no chance. As they say, never meet your heroes as they will let you down.

I don't know where he ranks as a Spurs player probably in the top 50/30 and I'm glad he's back in our side in the Premiership rather than anyone else's.

He's not come back to be top dog, he's come back to be a footballer, something that Madrid stole from him.

How good was alf ramsey? Probably none on here ever watched him or other players at the time.
Never saw greaves. Hoddle and waddle were my time.

Stats, greaves hands down. Everywhere else i dunno. Hoddle has to be in there. Venables didn't put jennings in his greatest spurs team. As much as we love ledley, sol was better (sorry).

Make your own decisions and lists. Nobody is right or wrong.
Ramsey was good but Ronnie Burgess, another Welshman, was the player in that team, his digs were over the road from our house at one time.

If he does it all again and brings us trophy’s I’ll put him at the top above greaves. But only if he delivers.

Nice list I'd throw in Steve Perryman and Gary Mabbut two great captains.

Bale isn't in the top 10 of our greatest ever players. Possibly not even top 20, that may change though.

Let's see what happens this season.

I think Bale’s place in our best ever largely depends on what he does now he’s back. He’s not there yet. Based on my Spurs education growing up, what I’ve seen with my own eyes, and also looking at what individuals actually achieved with us (it’s important), I’d be inclined to go:

Jennings
Perryman Mackay King Knowles
Blanchflower Hoddle Ardiles
Jones Greaves White
Of the current crop, I’d suggest only Kane and Bale (I’m not really our current youngsters) have a sniff of breaking into that. Yes, I know football is arguably more competitive now, trophies harder to win, records harder to break, but equally players are better protected, play on better pitches, have better training and nutrition, and more evolved tactical development. For things like this you have to judge how good players were against others from the same era. Longevity is important too.

Here’s a thought, and bear in mind that I’ve taken players spanning every decade from the 60s till the 2010s (though Ledley covers 3 by himself), each player on that list has individual won more trophies with Spurs than our entire current squad combined.

I think my reply back on page one was rather naïve at the time. With time, I've come to appreciate how "greatest" is a rather generational thing. If you try to take not only honours, but also talent, dedication and that all important connection with the crowd... be it rapport, attitude, or inspiration and entertainment; Then Bale is certainly up there.

He may not have got a league cup winners medal in 2008, and had to make do with a runners up medal the year after, but all those other boxes he ticks in spades.

So if I think of the standout players, who first drew me to Spurs, and then kept me here all these years, the ones that jump out at me from each generation are:

Hoddle
Gazza
Sheringham
Ginola
Keane
Bale
Kane

That's before I get to all the other great players I've loved watching over those years...

Spot on about Freund... farcical that he achieved some kind of cult status, rubbish footballer and I'll never forget when he bottled it against Roy Keane.

Greaves ,could only really play in a 4-4-2. Hes not a target man, centre forward type

He is definitely in the top 10. In his pomp he was unplayable and could create or score from nowhere and the team heavily relied on him. Hoping he is still as exciting and influential now he is back

As ever with these things how to interpret the question:

Most talented AKA 'best' players ever to play for us: Almost certainly Gazza and Bale

Best career at Spurs: Greaves, Blanchflower, Mackay, Knowles, Hoddle, Kane etc.

For me personally I class Ginola as a legend, he was majestic beauty on the pitch and brought tears to my eyes watching the stuff he was producing. He reignited my love for spurs and turned us from a distraction for me to an obsession.
I think Bale would have had a similar affect on people, so will always be remembered as a great. I also class Bale as a legend, he was the most expensive player in the world when we sold him FFS.
So if we are ranking this on skill and ability they would both be in my top 5
