With younger players I see it as 50/50 when it comes to attitude, of course young players are going to be ecstatic they'll be playing in the PL so some might be a bit silly etc I see it as part of the coaches role and senior squad members to try and mature the player and settle him down, I can't imagine GDS had many people to talk to at Spurs, from Mexico, educated at Barca, he hardly had anyone to sympathize with him and Redknapp's traditional English views hardly clicked with GDS. If he was about 25+ then I would start to have issues with his attitude.

Harry rarely rotated the squad unless it was the Europa League where he played fringe players with reserve players which isn't going to motivate Barca graduates or PL stars like GDS and Pienaar at the time. Redknapp's system never suited GDS as he was a natural attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1 and whenever Redknapp played such a system, he only did it to accommodate VDV. GDS wasn't Redknapp's signing, he was signed between Ramos and Comolli, both were gone within months of his arrival, really unnerving for a young player moving to a new country/ league.

I always thought he'd turn out good and I was gutted when we sold him, especially for such a low fee, I was really looking forward to what AVB could do with him but I am happy for him now and he's finally getting the playing time, results and attention his talent demands.

We could have got a much bigger fee for him, didn't we have a deal agreed with either a French or Italian team but he refused to go, spent another season not playing for us then left for peanuts?

That was certainly rumoured. It's also rumoured that we've received very substantial sell-on fees.

Really, though, he was utterly ineffectual when he was here, and was actually outshone by Fraizer Campbell. He's done well for Villareal? Good for him. Maybe he's grown up a bit. Would he have done the same for us? Who knows?

Bentinho scored 24 goals for Sunderland the season after we flogged him. I don't recall too many people complaining that we shouldn't have let him go.

I remember when AVB came in and everyone thought that he'd turn him into a star he was meant to be.

And then he left.

Hard to have an effect when you come on at 87 mins, out of position, once in a blue moon.

When I completely lost it with Redknapp was when Lennon was out injured for so long and he insisted on playing a 1/2 fit vdv on the right wing benching GDS on general principle

Lad got barely the slightest chance with us

I hate the way it all gets landed at Harry's and the Clubs door that this guy didnt succeed, IMO it was all too much to soon for the guy. Was having a look at some of the other players in La Liga and how they performed.

Carlos Vela, remember him, hardly got a look in under Wenger (Mr Youth) and this season he has had 12 assists and 16 goals.
