well he was out for three months, came back and has since played on the 18th, 22nd and 26th. playing on the 29th and then the 1st would probably have been too much. now he'll have had close to a week's rest.
Has he already played 3 times? That could be it then (although I'm surprised he wasn't on the bench).

I thought Fryers did very well today, anyway.

Really looking forward to Vertonghen coming back, hope he is partnered by Chiriches rather then Dawson. :)

Benoit Assou-Ekotto is set to return to Tottenham Hotspur this January after being sent on loan to Queens Park Rangers in the summer.
The Cameroon international, who joined Spurs in 2006 from French outfit Lens, endured a strained relationship with former Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas and was loaned out to QPR on transfer deadline day.
The 29-year-old played some of his best football at White Hart Lane under the stewardship of Harry Redknapp, who managed Spurs boss from 2008 until 2012, and has again found form with the experienced coach at Loftus Road.
Following Villas-Boas’ sacking, Assou-Ekotto urged the club to appoint Tim Sherwood, who joined the Spurs coaching staff in 2008 during Redknapp’s tenure at White Hart Lane, as their permanent boss.
Sherwood has since been given an 18-month contract as Tottenham’s head coach and a source has now told SportsDirect News the 44-year-old is considering a return for Assou-Ekotto back to White Hart Lane this January.
The new Spurs boss will be given funds to spend during the winter transfer window but does not feel the need to spend money on a new left-back when he already has what he considers to be a quality defender on the books at the club.
Redknapp, meanwhile, recently revealed he believes the only two left-backs in the Premier League who are better than the 29-year-old are Chelsea’s Ashley Cole and Everton’s Leighton Baines.
He said: “He [Assou-Ekotto] is in the top three left-backs in the country. He’s too good for most teams in the Premier League.
“He’s a top player and never missed a game for me at Tottenham, where he was my left-back. He played in every game – in the Champions League quarter-finals.
“There’s only Ashley Cole and Baines you’d take in front of him maybe. I couldn’t think of too many others. He’s top-class and could play in any team.”

Said for a while now that we need a centre back in January. Kaboul needs to be loaned out for the rest of the season to prove his fitness and get a run of games to get back up to speed. The outcome of this then deciding his fate in the summer.

Love Kabs but we can't rely on him anymore. Thats 1 1/2 seasons now. Sadly he has to go.

Keep Verts, Daws, Chiriches and Vejlkovic and add someone like Lovren or even Caulker. I also quite like Jonas Olsson. We should pick someone who knows the Premier League.

Oh dear :wideyed: Olsson is a disaster waiting to happen, but with a fighting heart. Much like Daws actually. Not a step up. Vlad and Vert are good. With Capoue or Sandro in front of them, thats solid. Cover needed though. Veljkovic?
LB is the critical part, but with Disco back:headphone: and the promising Fryers as cover, I´m good. Wouldn´t say no to Coentrao however...

Damn shame. Had a great year season before last and had the world at his feet.

Remember when he said on Twitter that he had an 'announcement'?

Lots thought AVB had made him captain.

Also, not convinced Vertonghen and Vlad will work. Need someone decent in the air next to one of them or tehy'll get bullied by the bigger forwards.

Has anybody stopped and even considered that Jan Vertonghen might just be a moody guy in general?

Gets on my tits that people say he wants out because he doesnt smile enough.

looks like vertonghen is doing his rehab at the move to cure facility (movetocure.com) which is in Antwerp. Quite a lot of PL footballers have been going there recently, supposed to be the best rehab clinic around (according to an article in the papers the other day) - West Ham sent Andy Carroll there to speed up his rehab, Christian Benteke is there as well

Isn't Kaboul's contract up this summer? I remember someone saying that last summer. Doubt we'll be renewing it if true.

Current contract expire in the summer, though we have option for another year
and Kaboul himself has also said he's tied down untill summer of 2015.
So it's a bit uncertain whether we've taken up on the option already or not.

Schär is great, but at the moment perhaps the most sought after centre back that isn't with a top club.
Won't be easy to land him, but we should try. A swiss combo of Schär and Rodriguez (lb) in would solve every issue we have at the back.

We do need a stable centre back partnership. Been reading the Alex Ferguson autobiography, and he says he always started buiding his teams from the back. Two stable centre backs was the most important thing in his teams.

A bit unsure as to how Vertonghen-Chiriches will do together. Last year, we always seemed dependant on playing one vocal guy (Gallas or Dawson) to look good. Vertonghen-Caulker was always clown car stuff.

But who knows, they may get the hang of it.
