Looking back there's really not been a whole lot of signings that got me really excited.

Second coming of Bale a clear winner, VdV equally clear second, and for some reason I had massive hopes for Postiga.

Edit: Oh yes, Rebrov was a massive one. Some odd others was Tainio, Paul Robinsion, Stambouli.

Rebrov was the first big one for me. His name was always used alongside Shevchenko's, leading many to think they were equals in their partnership. I remember 4 years later still hoping he'd come good. I learned this cautionary tale early on in life. Still remember the ceefax headline that we'd bid 30 million for Shevchenko after too. Why wouldn't Serie A's best striker playing for one of the biggest teams in the world come and join perennially mid-table's Spurs?! Ah to be young and naive again...

Gazza, thought he would be a new Hoddle. As mentioned previously, Ardiles and Villa, totally unexpected and mind-blowing at the time. Soldado, was expecting, hoping he would be smashing them in…. And Ginola, just to see some of that magic in a Spurs shirt

The second time Klinsmann signed. We were really poor and in trouble at the time. What a player.

Davids, he was world class and even though it was coming to the end of his career it still seemed like a massive coup. Bale second time round was special as well as I was excited to watch him, Kane and Son live tearing it up at the lane :(

Bit of an echo in here, but yeah... Klinsmann was mad.

15 years old, summer holidays... I remember stopping at some services on the A2, on the way down to Dover on a family holiday. My cousin had a copy of the Express, and I clocked the headline on the back page. The pair of us read it in disbelief.

Fair to say I was in good spirits on that holiday.

Davids was huge for me. I felt we needed a big name with tenacity and captain material. He fit the bill perfectly.

Gio Dos Santos. I read about how he was out of reach for us and only wasn’t a starter for Barca because of Ronaldinho. It was the last time I got truly excited about a player I’d never actually seen.

Klinsmann was another big one. Just a world class talent.

I remember being underwhelmed by Ginola. Glad I was massively wrong.

Klinsmann or Gazza. Would have been Modric if I'd had the faintest idea what an incredible player he was.

Every time his name comes up, I need to post this because it makes me smile and remember good times

For me it had to be José Dominguez, got so excited about his potential that I had to go see him play a pre-season friendly against Gillingham.

Anyway, we were blown away by this little guy who was running at people beating them with flair and skill down both sides. Incredible first half that dazzled us.

Then deep into the second half we heard a substitution being made and they were bringing ON Dominguez :wideyed:

Was back in ‘97 so I would have been 16 and still to this day I have no idea who the skilful little guy was who we thought was Dominguez.

Been loads of contenders, many of them already mentioned. But I'm gonna go with Scott Parker. I thought he was absolutely brilliant at Charlton, and even stints at Chelsea, Newcastle, and West Ham couldn't extinguish my appreciation of him. He was back to near his best at Stam the season before we picked him up, and when it happened I was over the moon. The right piece of the puzzle at a very exciting time for us.

If I'm honest, he never passed the ball at Spurs as well as I'd expected him to. But he still brought loads of quality. I loved Scott Parker.

Rafa and Edgar Davids. Never thought Davids would join us. Rafa likewise and neither disappointed either. I guess Bale's return as well to some degree. I was too young for Klinsmann, and not born for Ricky & Ossie sadly.

I remember being really excited about dos Santos next messi I think, shows what I know and Lewis Holtby think he was young player of the year in Germany when we signed him.
