Which Spurs players tried to skip England duty?

What has come out of this is the naivety Of Gerrard. As England captain I would expect him to act a bit more cautiously and gather the facts, knowing that it was Harry that opened his gob, before laying names before the tabloids. He needs to look at his own team and other teams for cheats etc etc.

This shit happens all the time when players get mysterious 3 day long "injuries" in an international break mid season week. Then guess what, they're miraculously fir for their club on the weekend.

Not just England players, and definitely not just spurs. Every big club does it.

Yeah this was pretty much a running joke with the press and fergie etc wasn't it? Man Utd players would always be pulling out.

I agree I've defended Harry based on his successful time at the club, but these comments are just self indulgent cowardly poison. I agree with Gerrard too, if he is saying comments like this he needs to either name people (and give them the opportunity to respond) or not say them at all. I think that was the essence of Gerrard's point.

Just speculation, but could he be, in part, referring to Bentley? We know they didn't get on and we know bentley has refused to play for England in the past. However I'm not sure if he was anywhere near the England team during HR's time here.

I remember the World Cup where Lennon played and he looked fairly good when the likes of Gerrard and Lampard actually bothered to pass him the ball. Then he came back, got loads of stick in the press and hasn't really featured that much for England for whatever reasons. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a slight grudge against the England team but I can't believe it's as simple as Harry is making it out to be.

Then there are players at Spurs and other clubs who know they'll only ever be fringe players for England due to the fact that for the last decade it's been nearly impossible to break into the side ahead of the "golden generation" players, even when they were out of form for their clubs. I think the reality is that some of them didn't want to go through the motions of training with the national team when they knew they wouldn't get anywhere near the starting lineup.

I don't know if this still an issue or not as Hodgson seems to pick a fair selection of players based on form and the golden generation are all retired or on their last legs. I think this situation could be partly the result of previous England managers only picking the big names for so many years and forcing them into unbalanced formations.

After seeing Gerrard's comment about it being "disgusting", I googled "Gerrard pulls out of England friendly".

Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of England's friendly with Germany in Berlin on Wednesday after tearing a leg muscle during Liverpool's 2-0 win over Bolton.

The vice-captain has been ruled out for seven to 10 days so could return in time for Liverpool's next game - the meeting with Fulham at Anfield next Saturday.

I reckon Harry's talking shite but if he was right my money would be on one of Bent, Bentley or Lennon.
Most people like you would suggest Bent because he was one of the least liked by the supporters, while putting the Dawsons and Parkers of this world on a pedestal, therefore it could not be them. In other words, if what Harry says is true, you would rather it be one of the least favoured. Think about it, considering the relationship that Bent had with Harry (Sandragate) do you honestly think Bent would have approached Harry with such a request?

I've defended Harry in the past, but for me his latest comments are a disgrace. He has betrayed the trust of the players and by saying what he has he has created a media witch hunt.

He should name names and at least give the player/players the opportunity to explain themselves.

oh who cares?

seriously its pretty much accepted most 'top' clubs players do this for meaningless friendlies.
it seems we only get upset when the big tournaments come up and we all suddenly become patriotic. pull the other one.

until the players who are actually in the squad of 23 start turning up, we need to worry less about the ones who don't want to be there.

I literally couldn't care less. If anything I'm delighted players were putting their club before their country.

If the FA can't persuade players that England are more important then that's the FA's problem. Other FAs don't have the same problem.

Maybe as a nation as a whole we need to look at why people aren't proud to play for England rather than having a witch hunt to find who the specific players are.

Weirdly enough just last week I was told that Walker has little interest in playing for England. I was told by my brother that his friend goes out drinking with Walker quite regularly and he doesn't seem to be particularly injured (although many injuries don't look like much to the naked eye) and said that he would prefer to focus his time on his "bread and butter".

Now obviously take with a huge shovel of salt as I have no way of verifying any of it. Just thought that it was interesting to hear that rumour a week before this 'Arry guff.

One of them must be Jamie O'Hara being asked to turn up for the England Squad for a friendly (debut yet as only a fringe member of the squad), knowing he wouldn't get on the pitch and his Missus was mega preggers at the time. I am only guessing of course.

As someone else alluded to, SAF allowed Giggs to have a minor injury most times when Wales were about to play a friendly on a Wednesday and then turn out for Manure 3 days later, all guns blazing.

All the managers do it to protect their own squad; in this case HR has turned the tables to win favour with supporters who pay a shed-load of money to watch England, which he would have dealt with better than this shower of shite that Woy has churned out.

Oh, now he won't name them. "It wouldn't be fair".

But it is now fair to cause a witchhunt everytime Kyle Walker, Aaron Lennon or Andros Townsend play for England now, because people might think they're the ones swanning us off.

I'd call him a manipulative **** if I wasn't just sure he's a moron.

Whoever these players are I don't blame them, England are shite and have been for the vast majority of their history, but the media expect them to win all competitions because they invented the game.
