Liverpool.

Two cup finals. One trophy. Qualified for the same competition as us.

For much of the season it was Tottenham who were by far the better. We played stunning football and were genuinely the most exciting team in the country at one point. But with the dust settling on this season Liverpool fans will have more to smile about than us. Our season can be summed up in two words I thought were about to be a thing of the past - typical Spurs.

I want us to do both ;)

And, to repeat, we have more chance of winning trophies on a regular basis if we get CL money on a regualr basis. Sad fact of life, I agree, but a fact of life none-the-less. Your argument that billionaire clubs create a glass ceiling is spurious, not because it isn;t technically correct (it is), but because that is a valid arguement for it not being likely that we not dominate the league, not as an argument that CL money won't allow us to win silverware regularly - IMHO, it would (Chelsea had started winning trophies regularly even before the Russiam mafiosa bought them the league).

Of course id rather we did both also...im so annoyed today, im ranting & its nothing personal to anyone...im brought up on the winning trophies is all that counts philosophy but i understand this generations thinking...even if i dont like it

Im destroyed today :(

Preferring to be in the shoes of a club who scored 47 league goals, finished 8th and possibly took part in some of the worst transfer business to date isn't really ambitious is it?

They won the league cup.... so did Birmingham the season before that for fucks sake - did Birmingham have a better season than us last season? We both got Europa league didn't we?

As for finishing runners up to the FA cup? That's about as pointless as us celebrating Bayern being runners up to the Champions League.

I was bought up on that ethos, too...but much has changed sicne then. You have to adjust to the times I'm afraid. When I was a kid, the UEFA Cup was a thing to win, indeed, and you didn't anything for finishing 4th in the league; now, the Europa is treaated with disdain (an attitude I can't abide), and 4th gets you more money than winning the Europa and FA Cups combined in a single season.

I partially detroyed, today. I oscillate between feeling philosophical about it, and getting fecking angry

Liverpool had their worst league performance since the 50's. They won six games at home, less than Stoke and QPR. They only just beat a team in the division below them on penalties to win the League Cup.

We were one point away from our highest league position since 1990. We were one point away from equaling our best ever Premier League points total.

We finished 4th, they finished 8th.

They had a player charged with racism, their manager completely lost the plot on several occassions with media, their owners pissed the fans off, they won a Carling Cup only just by beating Cardiff. Oh and they spent what, 50m or so on three average players.

Tough one.

10th, win the carling cup, not be humiliated by your closest rivals and don't bottle 3rd place?

Liverpool also took a tough decision and got rid of a failing manager

yes.

Well, I'm quite happy to forget about the Graham/Gross/Ramos eras of being mid-table obscurity and mediocrity to at least be challenging at the top of the table against teams with far greater resources than us.

So what your saying is birmingham city have one as many trophies as us in the last ten years...

When they close the books on football it will be about who won the most silverwear not who finished 4th most..u can quote me on that!

We should be winning fa cups & carling cups & uefa cups every other year but we have won the same as fucking birmingham cos we are so caught up in finishing 4th which wins u fuck all...

Graham and Ramos both won trophies, what Ramos achieved seems either better now considering that Chelsea have lost only 3 out 11 finals, we were outstanding in that final against Chelsea and we deserved to win. That will be something I will never forget.

Me neither, but I'll also never forget the 4-1 defeat at Birmingham the weekend after.

Do you not think there's a correlation between champions league teams and the number of trophies they have?

Seems to me we missed out on CL now all of a sudden people here are saying we should switch our focus to the Carling Cup - which shows as much ambition as the average West Ham fan.
