Who really cares about Tottenham?

I think it's also a problem with the Olympic Stadium if they insist on an athletics legacy, a running track could kill the atmosphere.
I'd much prefer Tottenham but the council need to pull their fingers out of whatever they've got their fingers in.

I am not blindly against the Stratford option, if it is the most viable option that will allow the club to continue growing, so be it.

But if at all possible the club should stay in Tottenham...I deplore the souless franchise system as it exists in America :)shrug:Old Trafford:grin:), were Middle-Class fans can 'pretend' to be Working Class for an evening (at exorbitant club), while the community who made the club, and made it what it is, are left watching gaes in bars 'cos they just couldn't afford the tickets, and the area rich with the traditional association with the club gets more and more run down.

When people talk about "maximising revenues" and "rebranding exercises" you know the wankers have won. When you start looking at football as a business model rather than as a sport then you're missing the point.

This has got to be one of the best threads on SC in many a month. Some real passion, anger and humour. My favourite post is this one from Houdini. Brilliant mate

Fuck this, we are not even going to Stratford.....

And i'm fucked if i'm gonna fly 4.9 miles like a Crow!

Anyway back to the topic in question...

But that isn't the choice though, is it.

The choice is do you want a spangly shiny new 56,250 stadium in Tottenham, or do you want to become a gyppo.

I was just relating the whole moving a club thing to my own life. I grew up in West London, moved to the Welsh borders when I was a young teenager, have lived since in Bristol and the South of France and for the last 11 years back in London, mainly in Clapton or Stokey.

I have strong memories of all the places I lived when I was a kid, but my folks no-longer live in the houses we grew up in and I have to be honest it would probably be nicer if they did because there are so many memories wrapped up in homes.

At the same time, it's not the end of the world that they don't, I do still have the memories and when we're talking about the past, memories are all we're ever talking about. They're not concrete, they don't have a physicality like bricks and mortar. So wherever I am they're just as real (or unreal) as they ever are.

But the thing about moving on is not only what you leave behind, but the adventure you have ahead. I have to be honest I fucking hated the Black Mountains when we moved up there, I thought it was the shittest place in the world, no mates within walking distance, no mates anyway and what kids there were were all fucking yokels as far as I was concerned. But now I love being partly from there, going home to visit Mum and going down the local Pub and knowing everyone...

...and since then each move has brought new experiences and outlooks.

So what I'm really saying is, while moving might be an upheaval (and tbh I'd prefer to remain), it also won't be the end of the world like some people are making out.

Tottenham: The Area.

The area that was graced by The Double Winners. Where my eyes saw the glory of the cups at White Hart Lane. Where Gascoigne, Mabbutt, Klinsmann, Greaves, Lineker, Chivers, Hoddle, etc. once worked their magic. Where my Godfather took me to my first and second ever games, walking up from seven sisters, in the same footsteps of Spurs fans for 100+ years previous, eating at Bite To Eat for a pre-match meal. Drinking in the Bell and Hare, where Legendary players once mixed with fans. An area which is ever-changing yet its centrepiece remains the same. An area that hosted great games both domestically and internationally. An area that had the eyes of the football world on it just a few weeks ago as we took the scalp of the European Champions in N17.

Who cares about the area? Me.

Sure, but play the hypothetical game and imagine all that happened a few years hence and we had moved to the OS, where would those memories be situated then? And really, if you took the geographical location out of all those memories would they have any less meaning? Really...?

It doesn't give me any pleasure saying this but as Adi or Gibbsy said (I don't remember which) if you want to play the martyr and cut Spurs out of your life, give up your season ticket and go and watch Orient instead there will be plenty of people willing to take your place, that's the cold reality.

We're all football fans here and nothing in the way we act or think when it comes to our club is any way shape or form logical or sensible. Levy is the Cambridge graduate with a first in economics, he's the one who is employed to use his considerable intellect and not act on feelings of loyallty or sentiment.

And I think we can all agree that even if Levy's decsions haven't always made sense to us at first glance, in every instance so far he's acted with the best interests of the club at heart.

If we move to Stratford it will be for the well-being of the club as a whole and that is what matters most to me.

The wankers won a long time ago mate, the Taylor report and the "rebranded premier league" saw to that.
I was up at Port Vale on tuesday night to watch Dartford play them in the FA cup, the Port Vale fans were telling us they were against modern football. They even have an american trying to buy their club.

We have to go with the flow in my humble opinion.

It's not exactly the nicest of areas either mate. You sure you don't want to move to Kensington or something? You do realise we plan to knock that stadium and then re-build on its site, don't you? I don't know about you, but I'd much rather build on the site of our own home than rebuild on some site of an Olympic venue in East London, West Ham town...

But maybe this is racially motivated?

I don't agree with what you say so you must be a rascist!

Nice one dude, can I use this defence in future arguments or do you have it copyrighted?

You've labelled Tottenham a shíthole without explaining why. I'm just hazarding a guess as to why. You're obviously not as smart as you think you are, so I'd slow down on the sarcasm.

Why not make this thread a poll and see what the members of Spurs Community have to say?

I understand the sentimentality of staying at WHL - I feel that. Like others here I have fond memories of walking down the Seven Sisters.

But for me we've got to move forward. And if the OS is the gift-horse it seems to be - I have no idea whether it is, by the way - we would be insane not to seriously consider it.

If then we decide WHL is best then fine, but personally I can't help thinking about all that lovely transport infastructure. Wow.

Have people here seen it recently? I have, and it does look good. Tempting even.

By the way, let's draw a line under what Lammy etc says. He's clearly got an agenda and his agenda isn't ours. Ignore what he says and move the discussion on.

Daniel Levy said:
Tottenham Hotspur is proud of its roots in Haringey. We have been in the Borough for 126 years and the Club is inextricably linked with this part of London. We believe that this scheme has the potential to create a truly inspirational environment for the Club and the community as well as acting as the catalyst for the uplift of the wider area.

Daniel Levy said:
There is undoubtedly huge support for the development and for retaining the Club in the Borough. Following the consultation period on these new plans we look forward to proceeding to a Haringey Council planning committee to determine the application shortly.
"In much the same way as we persevered and delivered the Training Centre, we remain focussed and committed to delivering a world class, increased capacity stadium, full of atmosphere and creating a thriving new environment on the High Road which would deliver regeneration benefits so important to this part of the Borough and the local community."

Just some previous comments from our esteemed leader.

I'm holding onto hope that he meant what he said.

I have no issues in seriously considering it, as long as once they have seriously considered it, it is agreed that the NDP is the best option.

I have seen it. It looks good. For an athletic's stadium. If football is going to be played there, I hope they give free binoculars like they do at the opera - we'll need it.

And I don't mean to belittle anyone's feelings, but I couldn't give a fuck about the transport. I didn't think to myself a couple of weeks ago "Should I bother going to see Spurs v Inter Milan - transport is crap at the best of times and there's a tube strike".

It never even crossed my mind, not on glory nights like that or gory nights like Sunderland a week later.

Maybe not, but I'm willing to bet that I'm smarter than you my friend.

Tottenham is a shithole, that is an objective truth that no-one can deny.

Does anyone know how much it will cost? What do we have to pay to get the site? How much will it cost to renovate/rebuild? Anyone know what our plans are? I'm interested but...

Sorry, I lived down the road in Enfield for seven years and have been a Tottenham fan for over twenty years. I don't think in all my years living down there and speaking to other yids have I ever heard a contrasting opinion to the one I just gave.

Our stadium redevelopment will act as a catalyst for regeneration.

With us gone, it will go downhill even further.
