Apart from a slightly dodgy first game against Villa, Vlad has been great for us. He's only gonna get better. The most consistent of the new signings. Maybe only against Andy Carroll would I prefer Daws. He and Jan bringing the ball out like they do will only push our midfield higher and hopefully improve us as an attacking force.

None. Vertonghen is naturally our best CB, but I'd rather persist with him at LB than Rose. Sorry, for all his athleticism and pace I just don't rate Rose highly enough.

Unless we're bringing back Benni, or signing someone like Fabio Contraeo in January. In which case I'm still favouring Dawson.

I'd love to try a 3-5-2 like that. Sandro alongside one of our other centre mids in the middle, Eriksen sitting in front of them and Soldado up front with Lamela playing off him. Adventurous and risky, but I doubt it'll be any more turgid than our current style of play.

Yep. Could even stick Holtby in the middle 3 of the 5, let him pull the strings and play those quick, intricate passes he's played in the Europa League for Defoe to score. The lad has publicly stated that he feels he's better suited to a more deep-lying role, so it'd be interesting (for me) to have a proper look at him there.

Very difficult

Jan worries me defensively as much as any of our CD

Really miss a world class central defender like Ledley. Kaboul had that quality but I'm not sure he can reach those heights again after his very long lay off. Hope he can

Jan and Chiriches on paper looks like our number 1 choice but obviously we've not seen them together yet, certainly not for any length of time.
They both look intelligent footballers and should be able to strike up a partnership.

Not that we've done badly this season, but our defensive record is also due to our shape not just the back 4.

And as much as I like Dawson, wtf was he doing last night in the lead up to their goal?! I was at the game and it seemed like he charged out of defence, head down, lost control of the ball and tried to make a pass that looked like a slide tackle!! Michael, know your limits mate you'll do everyone a favour - you are not Franco Baresi!!

Vlad or Younes, probably Vlad on current form and match fitness. Dawson hasn't been good enough for many seasons now.

Very close between Kaboul and Chiriches for me.

Kaboul at his best is a beast of a CB. With Chiriches for some reason I always expect him to make a sloppy mistake. He seems like someone who could do a Benny from time to time....in other words generally very cool, calm, and collected, but with the potential to suddenly attempt something absolutely bat shit crazy and unnecessary.

Chiriches is by far the most entertaining defender at the club right now though.

Kaboul if he ever truly gets his fitness and health back fully. So yeah, Vlad it is then. Either will give us a very strong pairing in the centre.

Agree. Although, what worries me is when our centre backs are more cultured, creative and intelligent footballers than our entire midfield.

We may to consider a horses for courses approach
I do not think that Jan and Vlad are physically strong enough to deal with the likes of Negredo Lukaka and Bentke so Kaboul would need to take the the place of Vlad

No one seems to have suggested dropping Dawson now.
Give Kaboul and Vlad a run together with Vertonghen left back until that position is filled.

Fully fit and on form only one choice for me.... Kaboul.
Chiriches has done well and will get better, but a Kaboul/Vertonghen pairing would be quality.
Can't believe people picking Dawson. So far out of his depth it's frightening...

Vlad is looking really good, get Kaboul back to full fitness and we have three really good defenders. Dawson is a bloody good fourth man to have too.

At the moment is has to be Vlad.

Been very impressed with Chiriches

But for me it's still Dawson. Dawson and Vertonghen were fantastic at the back during the beginning of the season when we kept a lot of clean sheets.

Hovered for ages but voted kabooom based on previous form and on the basis we are talking all fully fit and on top form.... If that's the case I think it's a case of who partners kaboul. But agree he should not walk back into the team, just believe he is the best when everyone at their best.

A few weeks ago, before we all realised how good Chiriches was, I suggested him and Verts as our CBs and the overwhelming response was that they were too alike.

Good players play is my response.
Just like you suggested Capoue start ahead Sandro a couple weeks ago...... But at least we agree on the CB pairing for the moment ....even if Chiriches scares the shit out of me sometimes with his Atouba style:D

Will Kaboul ever be properly match fit again?

Is the more the question.

I went for Kabs, he was awesome a few seasons back and we can't judge him alone on the City game. He also then offers something slightly different to Verts and he's naturally better playing on the right.

That being said Vlad has been awesome signing so I'm happy with either of these, if we don't get top 4 very realistic Verts will move on and Kabs and Vlad will become our main two.

Dawson shouldn't be keeping any of these out of the starting team.
