If Harry had some balls when it came to paying proper money for overseas players then he could well still be here.

I thought he just requested the player and then Levy went to get them though? Isn't that why this window has been so much better as Baldini has helped the negotiations and also Levy trusts AVB? If anything I think Arry would have loved to have splashed cash around. After all he gave Samba wages over 100k a week here at QPR

maybe he wasn't afford the chance.

He said on multiple occasions money was available but he didn't want to risk it on an unknown quantity. Suarez was the notorious one. He's always been an avid believer in playing it safe with good 'uns he's already familiar with in the transfer market. It was his biggest weakness as manager in my opinion.

In Harry's own words:

“We thought about Andy Carroll,” Redknapp admitted. “We looked at him, but we weren’t into spending £35million on one player. It was a bit beyond us. We did look at him.

"We looked at Suarez, to be fair. That was a player who we probably should have taken, looking back on it. We just weren’t sure. The fee was £30-odd million [Suarez cost Liverpool £22.8m], and that’s a lot of money.
"We were really looking for a target-man but I have seen him play up on his own and he can do that and he can play off [a target-man] too.

“We just thought he played a bit like Van der Vaart, but he can play anywhere. He is fantastic. He is top class. Uruguayans are tough boys, aren’t they? He can do anything, so he is a good player.”

Redknapp, who disagreed with his chairman Daniel Levy over the potential sale of midfielder Luka Modric to Chelsea this summer, has bought West Ham midfielder Scott Parker and signed Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor on loan this summer.
But he hinted at his frustration over missing out on two other targets.

“I like Downing,” he said. “I tried to get him and Ashley Young [who moved from Villa to Manchester United]. Those are the players who we tried to get. We were in for them at different times over the last few years. We didn’t quite push the boat out, but they are good players.”

he said the scouts told him suarez was too similar to vdv. he said he tried to sign cazorla and rossi, levy had told him we'd gotten mata and we all know hazard was on the cards until our collapse. avb's spent 160m(yes it was recouped), that allows for some riskier signings, harry worked under a tight budget(bar the first window).

Blame it on the scouts ;) Harry's a big boy, I'm sure he could work out whether or not he wanted a player himself.

I'm not convinced that Harry was working on a tighter budget. We spent more, net, under Harry than AVB. Much more.

Firstly I felt Harry should of been sacked and wanted him out after that slump

But the way people are going on about him is as if he signed poor targets, they had a job and did it tbh.

If you looked at the players we nearly signed under him or were after some of them are now stars not to mention the likes of VDV and Sandro. The players that we chased under Harry: Hazard(JJ said he loved Harry), Remy(looked decent before his injury hit season), Rossi, Negredo, Cavani, Leandro:rolleyes: and Suarez(up until david Moyes said he wasnt great)

Now the last one didnt come through but we had a decent scouting network, Broomfield was said to recommend Oscar when he was available for £3mill and our signings made last season was as a result of that network. We were working on Vertonghen and Lloris before we even hired AVB and signed Siggy before AVB got here tbh.

The truth is we would of signed the same players and messed Harry about with the player the powers that be dont agree with most likely.

I doubt he would have bought anyone different really...If they'd been presented to him as options.

Though he may have kept faith with certain players meaning fewer purchases - yet he was never one to pass on an upgrade.

He was someone who looked for value and utility - but what was available? We didn't need a parker or a friedal. Would we have snatched Downing as another option on the left? I doubt it. Rio Ferdinand? Possible

Maybe a rampaging striker? But then he'd probably have flattered Abebayor into form.

Whoring out Bale for £45 mil saying we can get quality players then signing Odemwingie, Gareth Barry, Sylvain Distin, McCartney instead of McCarthy; Last ditch bid for Rio offering Vertonghen in exchange, selling Sandro and keeping Parker, Karl Henry as a Sandro replacement and finally on deadline day Bale to Chelsea with Victor Moses in a loan exchange.

He would have signed every player affiliated to Willie McKay.
