Of the players we did sign, I suspect:
Vlad - No, £9 million on a largely unknown Romanian, when he had the known quantities of Gallas, Caulker and Dawson as the squad CBs
Capoue - probably not, would depend on Broomfield or other scouting recommendations, & definitely would have kept Parker
Paulinho - I suspect not 'Arry's idea of a Brazlian, and it seemed to take him forever to be convinced that Sandro could play in English football
Chadli - very good price given his form in Holland, but Redknapp still doubtless has flashbacks over Marco Boogers
Eriksen - Yes, Redknapp's idea of a creative, passing, player and cheaper than I expected
Soldado - this was such an un-Levy-like signing that I wonder whether it only happened because AVB persuaded him to spend the money and effectively forget about resale value. Redknapp wasn't prepared to pay north of £25 million for Suarez (wrongly) or Andy Carroll (correctly). Would this have happened under Redknapp? I simply don't know.
Lamela - the crown jewel of River Plate's academy, a good season in Serie A, world class potential. Big fee. Redknapp lkes to play his creative types wide - he turned D'Alessandro and Kranjcar into LMs cutting inside, and Modric was used mainly as a LM in the first couple of seasons. Lamela is a Number 10 who has already proven he can play wide, so with Baldini to vouch for the player's ability and temperament, Redknapp probably would have signed him.
The thought of Downing and Ashley Young wide, and our paying Joe Cole and Rio Ferdinand's pensions, gives me cold sweats...
