Who would you replace Avb with if you had the chance?

I don't know if I'm being overly negative here, but I don't know if we are enough of a step up for Martinez at this point. He could easily go the Moyes route, stay at Everton for a few years and when they overachieve, and it could even be as soon as this season, he could find himself in line for a bigger job than us.

I personally could see him sticking at Everton for a few years and then going to Arsenal. To me, that looks like a seamless transition. Sorry, I felt dirty saying that.

CV counts for fuck all if some of SC's ersatz experts are to be believed. Unless you've won every trophy there is. In which case, i've read that you get a bit of time. Although quite how long wasn't made clear. Experience tells me that it's probably around fifteen minutes.

But then again, there's another school of thought that time has fuck all to do with it. Elastoplast are making a killing protecting knuckles this week.

I think Pochettino's shown a lot of balls this season by not playing Gaston Ramirez. He's their record signing in a side that doesn't boast a ton of rich talent, yet he has made it known that he doesn't think he deserves a spot so he's not handing it to him based on his stature within the club. And, when Ramirez has played it's easily noticed why he doesn't start often. I give Pochettino a lot of props for that.

Which is pretty much what AVB did with Lamela.

Think it's quite different given Lamela is in his first season with us. Gaston Ramirez played in 26 matches in the EPL last season for Southampton and only missed so many games through injury. He was a consistent starter for them and now is on the outs.

I get your point, but I think it's way different in this scenario.

I don't see how any of those options appeal more than AVB to be honest.

Pochettino - We'd need to see a lot more of him before we'd consider him surely?
Laudrup - Struggling a bit this season, and not really any more proven than AVB.
Klinsmann - Almost no club management experience at all.
Hoddle - Seriously?
Mancini - Has only ever worked with teams that should be winning the league, and even then got the chop at Man City.

Don't really see how Laudrup is struggling they're a place behind us with a much weaker squad, where would you expect him to be with Swansea?

Martinez would be far too exciting for @Bus-Conductor.

I mean look what he's doing with a squad with half the talent of ours, scoring far too many goals. No thank you. Move on.

We're not really a step up from Everton so don't see why Martinez would come to us.

As for who would and be better than avb I have no clue tbh. Maybe F. De Boer with Bergkamp as no 2 just to piss off the gooners.

Really?

Seriously?

You're genuinely writing Martinez off as a joke suggestion?

Based on what the fuck, exactly?

The arrogance of a dismissal like that is astonishing.

He has to keep up the charade that he formed last year before we got AVB. Apparently his football is too 'lottery'.

Under AVB we achieved the highest points in a season in the Premier League

With worse finishing than in 66% of previous three seasons meaning that record tally became because PL was more uneven than in seasons when we actually finished 4th. You can hail the record for all eternity, but for me it's about finishing position, not number of points. Having 90 point season wouldn't matter much if it only got us 5th whereas 70 point season would be marvel if it got us 1st. Absolute point tally tells mostly about how even or uneven league is.

followed by our best start to a Premier League season.

Followed by our worst offensive run probably ever, failed to score in 4 out of last 6, got goals from open play in 1 of last 6.

The same AVB that PSG made a couple of attempts to get over the summer and Madrid were allegedly sniffing around.

Boy they must be relieved. If AVB gets the sack here he is lucky to get coaching job at school level outside Portugal.

Well lotteries can be exciting at times, so I get that. Makes sense now.

Seriously, I mean FFS.

Harsh. A bad third of the season and he went. The rest of the time he did well for their standards and was well thought of in Spain. (As you must know)

I like that he has a clear plan. Team dominates possession of the ball, presses high up the pitch, defensively secure. A lot of similarities to AVB, but two areas that I think set them apart, and which impress me, is that he is absolutely unafraid to make big decisions and ruffle feathers and lastly that he is willing to give youth a chance.

Just on instinct I think he would be a good fit, from what I have read and seen he's an interesting, popular coach who likes to get involved in all aspects of the club and I think has a good future ahead of him. Would certainly be on the list of and when we are looking for our next manager, providing he is still at Southampton.
