Why all the Europa League Hate?

I have totally the opposite view. Its real snobbish of us to look at the CL as we do, after the way thing have gone for us.

I think we desperately need big game management and some street smarts. I think the Europa league knockout would be a perfect place to try and develop this.

Because fuck me, you cant be that high with ten minutes to go away from home, in effectively a knock out tie. Especially if you keep passing back to the isolated centre half.

I have no interest as a fan to watch this team turn out on a Thursday night to play in the arse end of no where, then to have the knock on effect of then having to play Sunday.

Fully agreed...with our current attitude, theres no point being in it. It might explain a fair bit about our recent silverware though.

Absolutely given up on that. We’ve been in Europe every season for 15 odd years now, and it’s been frankly ridiculous watching us self combust/bottle it/flop etc year after year ( bar the odd freakish year we actually lose to a club with a better team like last season for example )

I mean look at it so far this season. Cruising against an average Inter side and then in control against a poor PSV side. Bottle it against both and now we are absolutely out after 3 poxy games.

Poch doesn’t even take the Europa seriously. We’ll get worked up, convince ourselves it’s worth it ( which it absolutely is by the way ) and then we’ll bottle it against Fenerbache or Genk in the last 16.

This bunch won’t ever win anything. Mentally they are so weak. It’s a shame because technically they should be able of mounting a real challenge for the Europa ( we’ll never win the champions league of course so that’s not realistic )
I’m not sure it’s easily solved either.

The thing is, we’re a vastly experienced European team thesedays. It’s laughable how little savvy the side has.

At our best we are easily good enough to win the EL. Problem is we haven't been anywhere near our best at all this season.

I think we would take the competition seriously if we dropped down. It's an opportunity to shake off the spectre of bottling it in Europe year after year after year and finally get our hands on some silverware.

If we manage to round into form (and I am increasingly thinking that will simply not be possible unless we strengthen key areas in January, which seems extraordinarily unlikely) we would have a decent chance.

Unfortunately we seem to really lack ability to just sit back, have a flat back 4 and a flat midfield and just stay organised. We saw it away to Real Madrid and never really saw it again.

Just watch us play a high line against City and get caught out too.
