Well I was destined to support spurs since my parents both support them. But being a girl (obviously) I didn't really get into football until I was 10/11, I think I particularly started trying to understand football when the guy I fancied also supported spurs and I thought it'd impress him, turns out guys weren't really impressed

My mum supported spurs just to annoy my grandad (a raving Utd fan), she went through all the teams and settled with spurs and went to quite a few games with family friends.

My dad began to support spurs as a child when my Grandad worked for a company that was doing some work to the lane. Apparently my grandad went to a site meeting and took my dad along, where he bought a few little bits and pieces from the shop and never looked back.

Grew up just north of London in a town that was/is 75% spurs fans. Have moved back there for a while now and is still the nearest PL ground as the crow flies.

born in Harrow, moved up North in '78 at which point id supported Liverpool like my big brother. Then i watched the '81 Cup Final and realised that i was actually a Londoner living in the wrong place suporting the wrong team! Moved back down in 2000 and been going to the Lane ever since.

DCSpur here. Born in our beloved teams second home, moved stateside 19 years ago and selling real estate in the metro DC area. Catch most games on tv at home, occasionally at the pub, so the banter on this site is a real reminder of home. Anyhow, long way of saying that Pasadena Spur spoke for quite a few expats he at spurscommunity.

Started following football 4 years ago. Became a spurs fan when my guy Klinsy became manager of the USMNT. I've researched a good bit into the background of the club and the history ever since I became a fan so if any of you feel like questioning my fandom again(you know who you are), there is a place I'll tell you to stick it.

I have the best reason for being a Spurs fan. None of this "it was my local team" or "the club my family supported" or "I really liked player X" nonsense.

When I was six, an older kid at school asked me who I supported. I didn't know what he was talking about. He said he was talking about football. I still didn't understand. Football was just something you kicked around on the grass as far as I knew. This was the early 70's and football wasn't on TV 24/7. In fact, TV itself wasn't 24/7 for that matter! My Dad wasn't really into football and there was no local team to follow in rural West Sussex. So I had no concept of football as a professional sport.

The older kid walked away, saying, "Well you have to have a team to support". And when an older kid tells you something like that when you're six years old, you take it to heart.

So later that day, I was in the village shop with my Mum. I saw packs of Panini stickers for sale and pestered her to buy one for me. When I got home and opened the pack, there were six stickers, each of a different player. I'd never heard of any of them. Or their clubs. There was only one thing that resonated with me. There was a player for a club called Tottenham Hotspur whose name was Martin Chivers.

I didn't know anything about the club or the player. But I did know one thing. I knew that my favourite food in the world at that time was jelly (jello for those across the pond). And the company that made the jelly that my Mum always bought was called Chivers jelly.

So that was it. Spurs for life.
