Why no big names will come to Tottenham!

I am finding it very frustrating that it has took us this long to get into the champions league and I feel unless we sign at least one world class player we will struggle to stay in the competition past Christmas, that is if we even qualify for the group stages!

I genuinely think that big name players like Fabiano, Forlan and Suarez to name but a few will not be interested in playing in the UK and I think one of the main reasons is due to the cost of living and tax that they will have to pay! I am not saying that these footballers are only concerned about lining their pockets but I think it is a big factor for them!

What do you all think?

I think our tight wage structure is the main problem, these players would sign for Man Utd or Chelsea!

I'm waiting for the window to close before passing judgement.

Interesting concept but not one I'd go along with.

Of the players you mentioned, two are already in the Champions League this season whereas Forlan has tried and didn't do brilliantly.

The key issue is the best players are largely already in the Champions League and therefore would probably feel it is a sideways step to move to Tottenham. Not to mention the fact that Suarez and Luis Fabiano in particular have been linked with United and/or Chelsea, who have a good chance of challenging for titles.... something we are a long way off being able to provide.

I think we need to stop obsessing about signing a 'big name player' and worry more about quality team signings and supporting the guys who got us 4th.

With the current squad and players we have I think we are going to struggle to get top 6 next season!

I am usually ever the optimist at this time of year however you look at the likes of Arsenal, City and Liverpool strengthening and us fannying around a Chelsea reject (Who I do rate but not what we need)

We have to stop hiding behind our end of year financial report and start competing with the best of them in the transfer window, if we cant attract the best with our name at this stage of our development, then lets show them our cash!

So who do you recommend we sign? Are you saying that the current squad is good enough to get us 4th again next season?

How many really big name players come to the PL as a whole, even Man U struggle to get the massive names.

I'm starting to get a bit worried about you, Dougal.

Just lately you've started to speak a lot of sense. Must be the heat.

Agreed and I don’t think that this could be due to the fact that players don’t want to play in lets be honest probably the 1st or 2nd best league in the world. I think it has to be due to the cost of living here!

What....? How have Liverpool strengthened? They have a new manager, if he can get them to the top four then he is far better a manager than he has proven to be. City will do what they do, it is really boring reading Spurs fans whining that we aren't spending the cash like they are. Who's going to bankroll half a dozen £20 mil signings, J K Rowling?

How have Arsenal really improved? How do you know we are fannying around?

Jeez, we finished fourth with this squad, for a whole season we were without Lennon or Modric and we have young players coming through, a new central midfielder that everyone raves about and players all the more experienced and confident after a terrific season.

But yea, let's complain because we haven't signed anyone. I don't know if it was because I was younger or because we were mediocre and in real need of new signings, but I now don't understand this lust for new signings for the sake of it.

It's still too early to say. I do think we're after top quality players, but they'll take time is all. There are plenty of players who want to play in England that's for sure.

We have qualified for the Champion's League qualifiers. Once.

Let's wait until we see who we can attract after the qualifier games yeah?

Who was flocking to Everton when they came 4th?

They have a new manager = Correct! Got his team to the Uefa cup final with fuck all to spend and average players! Torres and Stevie G I think he has got the capabilities to get the best out of them!

Arsenal = Signed a very good CB and a very promising young striker! (As they already have a world class striker! RVP)

for a whole season we were without Lennon or Modric = Please look at the amount of PL games they missed and come back to me. lennon and Moderic are good players but I feel very inconsistent!

City = Will get 4th or better next season guaranteed! Happily refer you back to this comment this time next year!

I now don't understand this lust for new signings for the sake of it = I agree that’s why J.Cole would be a mistake! We need a centre back and a striker! that is all that striker needs to be one of the best in the world, simple!

You may feel this is negative however for a change I am being realistic!

we have good players. i wanted joe cole to come but am quite happy that he has ended up elsewhere as it would have meant less minutes for the likes of kranjcar, defoe, crouch. instrumental players that we should keep happy, and it wont be so hard now..

Big name players DO want to sign for us, its just their agents PA's come on here and see what the general feeling is and all too often said player is being slated, not good enough and called a money grabber.

so they go elsewhere.
