Why not start a Spurs Community fanzine?

As you guys already know, it has been a few years now since we have had a decent fanzine. All the other major clubs in the PL have one apart from us. I think it's about time we put that right.

The SC forum has a fantastic spectrum of opinions from many posters who I feel could well do with a wider audience. The likes of SS57, Stoof, Nidic, Dan Ashcroft, etc always, well most of the time, write some right insightful posts which given the right platform could well be shared amongst our faithful. As we seem to post at 100mph we seem to miss out on the good points aswell as the bad. This problem could well be solved by each member given the opp to email in an article putting forward there argument at the given topic at the time. There are many other things we could add to our fanzine i.e. previews to upcoming games, match reports, memories from yester year, music page, fashion page, profile of a fan, media page (maybe Dan Ashcroft could well write this page), a ITK page, letters page, etc.... Ofcourse we will have our resident writers each issue or so in our fanzine but I think the best pages could well be the articles wriiten by us the common fan.

Proceeds from the fanzine could well go towards the site hosting (maintenance) of SC, banners/flags for games, maybe for mosaics the big games, coach travel for away games, etc...
Ofcourse we will need set up fees and with that we may well need a whip around but I'm sure there are people posting on this forum who could help us bring our costs down at the start. For example I'm sure somebody on here must know somebody who owns a print works. A discount could well be worked there, maybe even a 0 profit run done for us as a favour for the first few issues or so. For the designing of the mag I'm sure there must be some graphical desigmners on here too. Etc, etc, etc...

With a little bit of thought, we have 100's of minds to tap into here on this forum for ideas, and graft I'm sure we can make this happen. What do you guys think....

I think that if none of us had full-time jobs it would be great.

However, we struggle for Front Page content in the form of Column-writing as it is - I just don't think we'd keep the momentum beyond a few issues.

The test would be to get people to submit editorial/comment for the Front Page, and if we have a couple of months of getting regular stuff in, then it's easier to convert that into a fanzine rather than starting with nothing.

Just my two cents. :)

Nice idea. I guess you're talking about one to be sold at the games. Do people still buy them? I'm always tempted to just come home and log on here.

Sure do, well of other clubs.... One of my staff at work is a Utd fan and gets United We Stand on a regular basis. I must say it is a very good read. I'm sure we could better that.

As Stoof said, why don't you keep your eye out for the articles that catch your eye and see how they fit together. You could even have a section dedicated to Bomber. Maybe like a problem page / sexual agony aunt....

I think it's a really good idea. However there are a few problems.

- Would people not buy it because they'd rather spend their time on here (for free)?
- Would we be able to keep the same level of input going beyond a few issues?

You know, things like that which would be a key problem. But if we did do it I'd love to have some input in it.

I think people would buy it at games even if the content is online, so there wouldn't be a problem in that sense.

Does the club (or any club for that matter) have any policy on sponsoring fansites? Or ideas like this?

Edit: I think its a great idea and would certainly buy it.

I think it's a great idea but, as others have said, you have to know that you can sustain it. People buying it will probably not give it a second chance if you miss a month or if the standard slips.

I do a weekly newsletter for my school - hardly the same thing I know, but I would be happy to help in any way I can!

The way to make it work is to not have any of the articles printed in the fanzine displayed for free on the webite. Thats how other teams work it.

SC has maybe a few thousand members, at WHL we have up to 34000 potential customers to sell to. Not everyone at the game is a member of SC, we could easily tap in to new customers. Also a way to work it is to make the existing members of SC the elite, and any new members that join after the fanzine starts a limited access.

I'm self employed myself in the rag trade, I'm more than happy to help in anyway I can physically or financially!!!

I'll put my name in the hat to help in anyway I can... I'm a glutton for punishment and working for free!

edit: got some contacts in footy... might be able to help somewhere down the line with that.

I would buy it. I'd help in any other way but not sure if i could. Its a good idea though if its possible and any profits could help support this site.

I'm a professional magazine production editor, so would be happy to get involved if this was a genuine goer. I miss Cock-A-Doodle-Doo

I think that would go against the point - as then they'd want a say on what was printed and it wouldn't be all about what us fans think
