Watching Gazza and Lineker at Italia 90 convinced me too. Its amazing how many people support spurs cause of these two guys. Seriously, we need to start buying stars of that standard to attract a new generation of fans.
I say buy Rooney before the WC :)

Moved to England from Australia when 9 years old. First day of school and made friends with 4 kids playing football.

"What team do you support?"

"I don't know"

"You support Spurs."

"I support Spurs."

And that was that. Became my best friends. :)

I`ve supported Spurs since the 81 cup final as a seven year old, also played against them @ U16 level in the Milk Cup (a competition in my home town, glad to see Harry sending a team over this year)..Nick Barbmy scored the winner in a narrow 1-0 win for Spurs.

After the holocaust, a lot of German Jews moved to Chile to start new lives. My Dad was born there in 1957 and in 1962, the world cup was held there. Just before the competition started, Jimmy Greaves had been transfered for a record fee, and as a result, when he arrived in Santiago, the papers were all over him and wanted a picture of him with a local kid.

Knowing that they would eventually move to England, my Grandpa took my Dad and uncle to see the England team arrive, and my uncle, who was 2 years younger, got picked up and put on Greaves lap but he started crying, so my Dad got subbed in and as such and had the picture with the great one.

When they arrived in England in 1966, my Dad, who remembered having the photo done (and still has a copy) asked all of his school mates who Jimmy Greaves played for, and as a result, is a Spurs fan whilst his dad and my uncle are Gooners.

Thank god for my crying uncle, thats all i have to say.

I'm Irish so no family history of supporting Spurs. The very first football match I can remember watching was the 1978 world cup final. Won a 5p bet with my Da. It sprang from there really. Then the cup wins and I kinda liked the white shirts.

Well...when I was 9 I went to my dad's office, which must have been very close to the Lane, and on a Saturday, as I remember seeing all the fans in the white shirts, and my dad saying they were Spurs fans.

The next summer was the 1990 world cup...and the star players were Gazza and Lineker. That tournament got me hooked on football, and hightened my awareness of Tottenham Hotspur.

A few months after this tournament I found myself watching Spurs v Arsenal in an FA cup semi-final, and right from the start I was firmly behind the team in white...extremely so...then this happened...

..I went crazy without really knowing why. My guess is innate taste.

When I was about 8/9, my parents used to be friendly with a family a couple of streets down. One of their sons was a Spurs fan and a few years older than me, I used to look upto him (Physically and emotionally). Went to their house to watch the '91 Cup Final, we won, I decided to follow Spurs. Not proud to say I started out life as a glory hunter, but supporting the club through the dark '90s, I like to think was a kind of penance.

My great grand dad played for Spurs, so there's only ever been one team for me.

P.S. Check the signature team photo below -- he's second row from bottom immediately left of the shield. He's buried in Tottenham cemetery just next to the Antwerp. We visit his grave before matches for luck. His headstone faces the stadium.

BTW - I stumbled on his wiki page the other day:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Jones_(association_footballer_born_1874)

It needs a little updating, but it's there

My Dad and his dad before him were Spurs, though for some reason i remember being a Liverpool supporter  for a season until i was 4, probably because they were the best team in the country at the time.

Then my dad kept watching the vhs of the 81 Ricky Villa final, been a die hard Spurs fan since.

One of my brothers is an Everton fan because when we went to get him a Spurs shirt for his birthday the whole of the towns shops had sold out of them, he decided he liked the Everton kit and has followed them since.

My other brother supports Palace, purely cos when he was younger he always supported a different team (ie Argentina over England :duh:) just to wind my dad up. If they go out of business he is going to be disowned as has said he will follow Ars*nal!

My great (great?) granddad used own a leather shop on Tottenham High rd and they used to make and repair the footballs for the club (circa 1900), my granddad bought original shares in the club, he handed those down to my dad who transferred the shares for modern ones and my bro and I inherited those shares when he sadly passed away a few years ago. Unfortunately my dad moved from North London, to South where i was born, so i can no longer claim it to be my local club, but I think I've got reason enough!

When I moved from the States one of my best friends in primary school was a Spurs fan.
Growing up in Islington, almost all of my class was Arsenal and Mr Howard, our teacher, would really put the Spurs fans through it (in a class of 18 or so there was only 3 of us); making us go last to lunch and so on. We reveled in it, an it made it admirable being a Spurs fan.
Admittedly I first saw football a Highbury. We squeeze down the side of the old tower turnstiles after kick-off whenever a moment came that the stewards were far enough away, peg it up the steps and disappear into the North Bank. Never swayed me though

The old man supported West Ham but wasn't that much into footie that he made me support them (thank god). My mother bought me a random Cambridge University sweatshirt so naturally I supported Cambridge for a bit (hmm).. Then I was I was a Tony Currie fan for a bit (that goal against Southampton? done it for me) (never supported leeds thou) and then Hoddle happened and the rest is history.

Was born in north midd hospital all my family follow spurs, its always been in my blood have followed them since the early seventies.

So was I!!! In 1960, though *cough*

And my dad is an 81 year old lifelong supporter. Always loved Spurs, always will.

Why Spurs??? Shouldn't the correct question be "why anyone else?"
