I swear some people just want us to spend a lot of money.
Apologies, tiger, but I really feel the need to reply to this post again.

Thinking about it more, I see it as increasingly absurd.

What on earth is wrong with our fans 'just wanting us to spend a lot of money'?

Are you saying you don't want us to spend a lot of money?

I just find it utterly baffling that our fans wanting us to bring good players in this window can be used as some sort of criticism.

Tottenham and Everton plot Wilfried Zaha player-plus-cash transfer offers rather than meet Crystal Palace's £60million asking price

Moussa Sissoko and Eagles old boy Yannick Bolasie are names in the frame to be offered as makeweights

The Wilfried Zaha saga has taken a fresh twist with Tottenham and Everton now planning part-exchange bids for the £60million-rated star.

Long-term suitors Spurs are unwilling to meet Crystal Palace’s valuation of Zaha but willing to offer a player as a makeweight to try to bring their cash outlay down.

France midfielder Moussa Sissoko is one player they may look to include in any deal.

Meanwhile, Everton are ready to give Palace the chance to re-sign former favourite Yannick Bolasie and offer cash on top in an attempt to land Zaha.

The Blues value Bolasie at around £15m.

Germany’s Borussia Dortmund are also lining up a big-money bid for Zaha, while ambitious West Ham are understood to have baulked at their London rivals' valuation.

As MirrorFootball reported, the 25-year-old is keen to move on and has turned down Palace’s offer to make him their new £125,000-per-week highest earner, which led to contract talks being shelved.

Zaha has made no secret of his own ambitions, and he and his representatives are understood to have been left concerned by recent comments from boss Roy Hodgson.

The Ivory Coast international, who also won caps for England before committing to the country of his birth, was an inspirational figure last season in a successful fight against relegation.

But Hodgson has warned Palace are preparing for another battle against the drop in the new season, adding that they “haven’t really got a lot of money” to improve a squad which has already been weakened by Yohan Cabaye’s exit, Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s return to parent club Chelsea from loan and the likely departure on a free of Bakary Sako.

Palace are determined to hold onto talisman Zaha and, earlier in the summer, considered him worth more than any sum of money they may receive.

And they remain in a strong position as there are still four years left on the £100,000-per-week contract he signed last summer.

Honestly - rewind the clock and we could be talking about someone like Trevor Sinclair. I just don’t see this working out well.

Zaha is a good player, possibly very good if your system suits him.

But he’s a counter attacker that needs a fair degree of license to do what he wants, including be fairly selfish at times.

I’m neither convinced that he’s in the style of a player we lack (a quick, clever AM who can pick a lock and is a genuine goal threat) nor that his quality would warrant the license he gets at Palace, here.

I’m not saying he’s a bad player, far from it, but I just don’t see it as the right move.

Poch was right to identify him several years ago - we all laughed and were wrong - but I don’t see it now.

I think he’s the kind of player we’d end up with (and over paying in the process) because our preferred targets were out of reach

We do know offering Sissoko drives up the player's price right?

Tomorrow's news. Wonder if this will flush some ITK out. Only Breezer really spoke of this but he likes to keep incognito.

I never said I didn't want us to bring in good players. I get the impression some people just want us to spend a lot of money. £70m on Wilifred Zaha seems ridiculous to me.

If £30m of that is Sissoko going the other way, I can live with it.....

If we couldn’t get Martial or Bale, I’d rather just roll with the forwards we’ve got and use the money on a CM playmaker type

If we can strike a deal that sees us lose some of our surplus to requirements players however, I'd be happy with that all the way

70million (though latest is 60 million total package) and remove sissoko.... Deal! :cautious:;)

But I do agree with your point/logic, spending shit loads on players just so you get them isn't how we work or will work. Well not until the stadium is paid off and we have the extra revenue to be able to spend.

To be honest, I understand that loads of people will disagree with me. I just fail to see a better option at the moment who would be significantly cheaper without being a lot shittier/less proven as well. For once I just want us to go get a proven player that Poch clearly wants.

All fans want their club to spend money. Stop pretending to be above it and get on the Zaha hype train.

Sure. But it seems to me as the close of play gets closer, Martial etc falling away and Liverpool throwing money about that some posters are getting twitchy and just want us to do the same and blow a huge wedge on someone.

If the money is there, and Poch thinks we need him in the first team then I have no interest in value for money to be honest.

We have about half a billion in talent in Kane, Eriksen, Lloris and Alli that cost us about £22m and some development fees. We're in credit.

I'd rather us spend over the top on one of Poch's top targets than take another punt that may or may not pay off.

Plus if we can somehow get Sissoko going the other way I'd be dancing in the streets.

I'd rather we did both (not specifically Martial or Bale, just a top versatile forward) and if we're serious about backing Poch then we'll do it. Although I'm starting to come to the realisation that Poch may not be after the midfielder type most of us want, but at least Grealish will add creativity.
