Strangest move of the summer by a long way. Players used to go to Turkey for a money bump at the end of their careers but he could have walked into any of the Saudi clubs for 5 or 10 times what he will get at Gala. They will be in the CL but not for long and i guess he'll get a shot at a couple of domestic titles but, he could have done that in the Netherlands or Italy. Just dont really see the logic but it will be a decent front three out there.
I do agree on the general sentiment here but what´s REALLY strange and a sign of the times and maybe of things to come is that to join what´s after all a well established club in Europe, one might argue one of the most supported ones in what´s considered a beautiful city (never been to Istanbul tbf) with huge rivalries across the city´s main teams is considered to be stranger than joining any random team in SA.

For the record, I also raised both eyebrows when I heard about the move so no pun at you @StanSpur , just a general observation of a move of a well-established player within Europe appearing stranger than a move to SA

Good luck to him. Shame it never worked out for him at United

Very talented but obviously the wrong side of the hill now…

Oh i totally agree in terms of the SA point. I am not saying i think he should have chosen a move there over Gala but given the number of players going out there and the money being handed out I thought it was an unusual choice in the current context of summer transfers. I agree Istanbul is a fantastic city, one of my favourite in Europe in fact, and Gala have a history of being in and around the CL last 16, I guess the strange thing is more that he didnt go to Italy or spain where he could do well for a fair few more years at a club like Juve, Inter, Atleti etc

Not sure why a big club didn't come in for him.

Last time I saw him he still had it, on a free transfer and a two year contract I would've thought a few clubs would try.

Maybe it's a sign of the times, Chelsea, Arsenal, us, RM are all looking for younger players these days.

Maybe they've been burnt enough times with having old over the hill and overpaid players on the books.

Such a lovely player to watch on his day.
