I have to respect him, has had lot of stick over the week from Nasri and has kept quiet and showed it on the pitch today, really turned back the clock.

From the 1st min that sliding tackle on Nasri.....brilliant.

Really earned his spurs (sorry) and was a worthy captain.

Not a fan of what he has done in the past but today he should what an awesome signing he could prove to be. I think he saves his form for the big games really and he was shattered at the end, hope he can be more consistent.

I think Bale MOTM was a tad...I dunno...journalistic, reminded me of Liverpool and the times I have been to see them and seen Alonso and Kewell in MOTM performances yet the media give it to Stevie G because well...he's Stevie G.

Led by example, keep it up

Absolutley top drawer today. Was the boss on the pitch today. Owned the game.

A lot to learn from that today but looks like Younes was following Williams lead!!

I'm not going as overboard as some, but it was a good performance today.

I've never had a problem with his ex-scum status. If he's wearing the lilywhite, he's ours.

Overboard? That was a sensational peformance from him, I wasn't even expecting that but I certainly was never going to write him off when he had no pre season under his belt - thats why I was defending him the other day.

If he plays anywhere near that level most weeks he will be first choice along with King, but to be honest that partnership with Kaboul should keep going.

I agree that Gallas was excelent today. If he can consistently turn in performances at around 80% of that level, he will turn out to be an excellent signing. Kaboul will also benefit from having an experienced player along side him if we do not see much of King Ledley.

Would Dawson walk back in the team if he was fit tomorrow?

I think Gallas is a warrior. He isn't 100% fit, neither in fact is VDV (notice the hint of a double chin on the dutchman?) however he literally gave everything yesterday, for him a game isn't just a game, it is a battle, and in battle you put it all on the line. Most influential signing since Davids.

Just read this, loved it, especially the bit about constantly talking to JJ, letting him know where he should be, real leadership stuff...

Jermaine Jenas has hailed William Gallas' captaincy credentials after Tottenham Hotspur's win at Arsenal.

Gallas was handed the armband for Saturday's Barclays Premier League match against Spurs' north London rivals at the Emirates Stadium, in which the visitors completed one of the most amazing comebacks in the history of the derby to win 3-2.

The result marked Spurs' first win on Arsenal soil in 17 years, and had added significance for Gallas, who was a regular for the Gunners up until last season.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT

Having watched his Tottenham team-mate skipper his side to victory, Jenas said of Gallas: "Absolutely brilliant he was. From start to finish, he was fantastic for us and I was so pleased for him.

"The pressure was on him, everyone was watching him and he got the armband and led by example.

"He was a voice in my ear, especially in that second half when the team needed me to sit a little bit more and graft in front of them and try and get around Cesc (Fabregas).

"He was in my ear constantly trying to help me because it's not natural to me. And I did it.

"He is a laugh as well. He has come to Spurs and wants to work and win games and he has given us that experience that we probably needed."

If anyones suprised with the quality of Gallas then that in itself is suprising to me. He was always a world class defender and made John Terry look good for years. Its was a surprise or maybe not that Arsenal were so tight fisted in offering him a new contract because of age (lead to believe correct if wrong)

Gallas gave simply the best defensive performance i have seen from us in years. From the second minute when he stopped Nasri to the last 10 when he was obviously injured and refused to come off despite Bassong being stripped and ready. It was pure determination to prove Wenger wrong and show that he's still one of the best in the business and if we can harness that mentality and effort into every game for the next couple of years then it will be as good a signing as VDV.

Bale was never MOM but as Ian Wright (suposedly jokingly) said after the game "I couldn't give it to Gallas" so it went to the default Bale (who shouldn't have had it a number of times that he did in my opinion). Gallas was the best player on the park this week and could be the captain we've missed for decades.

This was why I was advocating for him to be Captain instead Hudd, where I was almost accused of treason by the doubters. This "leadership" has been missing in our games for some time now and like it or not, he led well at Arsenal when he was Captain.

I am glad he was made Captain, even more so than proving his doubters wrong. Well done Billy G.
