Do you think Levy deems all that worth a six figure salary, maybe even more?
If Baldini finds out a player has a minimum fee release clause or is available for 5m less than another player we were looking at (or less than we were going to bid for the same player), then Levy has saved Baldini's salary for the next 10 years from that 1 deal.

Also, we could find out players we thought were impossible/too expensive to sign are actually available and affordable with the right deal. For example, if it wasn't for Levy relationship with Real, we never would have gotten VDV (we would have lost Modric and Bale anyway and perhaps to another PL club).

Contacts and relationships in football shouldn't be underestimated. They can make a huge difference and that is why Chelsea have Pini Zahavi and Kia Joorabchian as "consultants".

I love all the suggestions in this thread, its widely acknowledged that we signed too many young, inexperienced and/or foreign players who need time to adapt and to flourish and its a group that lacks a bit of character and leadership.

The solution though apparently - Buy even more young foreign players...

o_O
It's not about the age or the birthplace of the player that has been the problem, it's the type of player, experience and mentality of player we have signed that is. Eriksen is 4 years younger than Capoue, yet, imo, Eriksen is more experienced.

For example, we need a CM with the right qualities and whilst I would love us to sign Milner, I would be very happy if we bought Clasie, who is only 23 but has a good amount of experience but more importantly, has the right skill set and mentality.

In regards to Berahino, yes he is young and doesn't have a lot of exeprience, but his experience is in this league, he seems to have the right attitude and he has a proven working relationship with Kane, he has qualities we need (pace, skill, no fear, finishing ability) and can play more than one position (striker or wide forward) which a are all factors that need to be taken into consideration.

We do however, need 1 or 2 of the incoming players to be experienced leaders, especially the CB.

I understand and I don't mean to underestimate the value of contacts, but if that's the case why didn't we hire a "consultant" or give Baldini a lesser role, instead of making "Director of Football" or "Technical Director?" That is an unnecessary excess in expenditure to pay that difference in salary if he is solely at Spurs to be a contact provider.

Because, if he (or anyone else) is a consultant, he can work for other teams, and give info to the highest bidder. By being a Tottenham employee, he only uses those contact for us. In Chelsea's case they are the highest bidders so they can have Pini & Kia as "consultants", but also those two are also agents/part owners in players, so they couldn't be an employee of Chelsea anyway.

Do you know he is just "a contact provider" and isn't fulfilling other roles a "technical director" does? What responsibilities is he not performing that other technical directors fulfill? It's only a unnecessary expense in your opinion but you don't even know what he is being paid. What lesser role would you give him?

I think you may be unclear as to my opinion. My case here is that he is not only a contact provider, and that he indeed provides other skills, including an extent of the negotiation process beyond solely making contact. Purely conjecture of course.

Don't get too hung up the consultant issue either, as the point is just that above, that we're clearly paying him to provide more than just contacts.

From now on it will be "the computer says...." whoever

Well if it's the same computer that was able to figure out that Mane would be a good Premier League player, I'm all for it.

Really is not that difficult to recognize these things :meh:

Has anyone watched Will Hughes? There was a lot of rumours linking him to big clubs last season but he's still playing for Derby. I don't know much about him but at least on paper he looks like a real gem.

Not a fan actually. I think he works very well for the Championship because he has good vision coupled with decent size, but he's too lacking in pace for the position in the Prem. I think this is exactly why that despite him being talked about for several years now, no Prem side is yet to take a gamble on him.

Ricardo Kishna, Ajax's teenage left winger who can also play on the right.

His piece of skill a few moments ago against Heerenveen was out of this world.

I have been really impressed with Michail Antonio who has had a brilliant season so far. Strong, pacey creative winger who can play wide or centrally and has scored 9 league goals this season.

He always looked a good player Sheffield Wednesday and has got even better at Forest.

Bony is looking more and more the perfect fit for our main striker role imo, he seems to have stepped up another couple of levels in the PL. Hands up when I watched him at Vitesse I wasn't that impressed, he scored goals but looked a player I felt would struggle in the PL, but he's taken to it like a duck to water and I believe expanded his game

I've watched him a few times in the previous couple of seasons but not this so far. I really like him, he is a very complete mid imo better going forward but a very good prospect. Still a little raw and obviously lacking PL experience but he's a player that would be worth signing and giving him a season of europa and cherry picked PL cameos and games.
I don't think he's ready to live up to high demands and expectations just yet but could be a top player in a couple of seasons

Not ready, seen him probably more than anyone here, played for two of my local clubs before he joined Derby

when he has a good game he is probably one of the best young players in the championship or even in England.

Worth noting that he has done better in the championship than Barkley did.

However he is very inconsistent in terms of having games where he is the best in country but is playing very well but he wouldnt be a starter if Thorne wasn't injured
