If... ( big if ), we could get a fit, firing, focused Rose back, I don't see LB as such a pressing requirement for a newbie.

A ball playing CM would be a lovely addition to have, but again, Winksy staying fit and getting back to his best and playing regularly could minimise the urgency for a newbie.

You see, for me ( and I'll add consistency has to be fully met yet ) Sissoko could well be the Dembele replacement many say we'll need.

He tracks back, drives forward well, but has previously been guilty of a poor first touch. But no denying the huge improvement in his game of late.

So I really do see it as areas we wish to upgrade or players that maybe offer us a different dimension to our game style if we wish to change things to suit.

Obviously outs will have a bearing but by start of next season I'd like us to have...

If Rose isn't feeling it, a new pacy LB. I think many don't see Davies as good enough as first choice, maybe, but he's assisted a decent amount of goals and is certainly good enough as a back up to call upon.

A ball playing CM or a box to box type. ( Tonalli or Ndombele ) Either way, a player that can get us transitioning from back to front quicker than sideways passing. Most probably a replacement for Dembele, but doesn't need to be like for like. Sissoko got that base covered. :finger:

Still not sold on Aurier, maybe not a pressing area same as LB if the Rose we know teturns, but I think the RB at Palace ( wan Bissaka ) has everything we need. Gets up and down, and absolutely loves a tackle, young and I think he'll be wanted by all the big clubs before long.

To close, an upgrade on Llorente.

Whatever way, I'm now starting to look at the subs bench on match days and it's starting to look pretty strong. I don't honestly think we need much and like I've said I don't see much more than 4 in tops before start of next season.

One or two in January would be excellent and I'd be happy with a couple in the summer window.

Giroud is better than Llorente but why would we buy another big battering ram when we don’t play the right way for the one we already have?

Spot on. We don't play the right way for an aerial threat. What we need if Kane isn't available is an unselfish striker who loves to run the channel to make space for Dele, Son etc.

Callum Wilson is ideal or a younger Vardy type. Timo Werner would be great but think he is being lined up as Lewandowski replacement for Bayern

Supposedly Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini has a release clause 26 mil that will become active at the end of this season. If hat is the case we should be all over him, would be perfect for our midfield. Exactly what we need.

I saw that in the paper transfer rumours on BBC. What kind of player is he?

Heavily linked to Utd
Yup, but so are a number of other bigger named CMs, I think a lot will depend on what happens to Pogba and Mo. I really don't think they are that appealing a prospect at the moment, Martial still hasn't renewed. Although they will pay significantly more then us. For what it's worth I reckon he will sign a new contract removing the clause but if he doesn't I think we could bring him here as long as we are in the CL next season.

He's a B2B/DLP, but also very adept at playing as an AM. Only 22 and one of the biggest young talents in Italy. Very creative, he's an excellent passer, already got 5 assists for Roma this season. Hes not as defensively aggressive as someone like Barella but he is an excellent talent. He will become one of Italys midfield mainstays. Hes much better the Cristante, who we were linked with last summer. He would probably cost two or three times as much if his contract didn't have that clause.

If we sell Rose I would throw it at another LB. However we lose a HG player in Rose so we would need to be seriously upgrading if we do sell. Chilwell would be perfect but his price would be inflated now.

CM to replace Dembele and Llorente would be perfect but will most likely be next summer!
Agreed

I think sessegnon will a top draw LB. forget him as an attacking AM. Might be a good time to test them again his stock has definitely fallen. Relegation still looming they may cash in and he also may think now is the time. If they do stay up I think they will go on to be a solid mid table team. £25-30m be my top price in January. I think something around £28m they’d go for. Sounds a bit steep on current form but he’s so young there’s much more upside in that price I suspect. Could be our LB for a decade.

Write Dembele off at your peril. A couple of seasons back people were saying exactly this with his hip problem and he came back in full beast mode. I'd be happy for him to get a big pay day somewhere abroad if that's what he wants though.

Oh I’m very prepared to be wrong about Dembele, but even when fit he’s looked poor this season.

Yup, and more to the point, we HAVE to start acting as if Dembele won't be of any use. At the moment, he's unlikely to be...in the near future he definitely won't be.

If he comes good, great, it's all upside, but we need to start replacing him now - it's the most pressing need we have by some distance

A few questions about Sessegnon;
Does he want to be a LB or an AM?
Is he good enough defensively to be our LB?
Why would Fulham let him go in Jan when they're in a dog fight?
If we free up some HG places aren't we better going for Grimaldo, Telles or similar?

Sessegnon is everything you'd want from a modern fullback, just as good going forward as he is defending. And when he's attacking space from deep as you do as a fullback he's mightily effective.

If he's willing to move back to FB I'd be really dissapointed if we arent all over him, considering all the good work we've put in courting him and now that his forms dipped he may not be on as many other big clubs radar.

It would seem like Fulham buying Drinkwater would be a perfect situation for both parties so there might be a chance that Fulham are open to selling RS to raise funds. He would be a great signing for us if it does happen.

But for me the priority is to try and shift Vorm and GKN which would free up a couple of non-HG places. If we don't fill both of those during the window it should at least mean we can register Janssen back in the squad. I can't imagine we will be able to shift VJ during January because of his injury so may as well have him available for selection, and who knows... he might have a Lamela-style comeback.

Sounds like Roma are trying to get him to extend his contract. Maybe these links to Man U are just part of that negation.
