There's no doubt that Levy is a great negotiator - he's got clubs to pay some outrageous prices for our average players - Wimmer £18m, the Sunderland triple package, etc - and we've signed some great players for peanuts - Lloris, Moura, etc. But if you are going to negotiate hardball-style, it's a high-risk strategy, and not everything is going to come off like it will if you have a blank chequebook. That's just pretty obvious.

No he's not. The object of doing transfer-deals is not to fleece other clubs but to bring in the players we need to improve our squad and also to get rid of our deadwood, in order to maximize our chances of on-field success.
Levy utterly failed to achieve either objective last summer. That makes him a lousy negotiator in my book.

He failed last summer (a summer where his eyes may have been distracted by the stadium problems), but his tenure is not just made up of one summer. He's delivered a lot of players for a lot of managers, and maximised the limited resources we have to build a very competitive squad.

The argument is not really our transfer policy - it's Levy as a negotiator. I maintain that over a long period of time he's done a good job of maximising the resources available to us.

Then he should have brought someone in to cover part of his workload. To fail this badly in such a critical part of his job is frankly inexcusable.

He's simply made the CHOICE to spend that considerable revenue on the NPD whilst choosing to exercise a policy of relative frugality in the transfer market. Apart from a few notable exceptions, the vast majority of Levy's work in the transfer market reads as a litany of "doing deals on the cheap"; not because he had to, but because he chose to. He's been directing the funds elsewhere.

That's £150k/w which is in line with our wage structure. We could offer him that (and more) plus a lucrative signing bonus. I agree that he's probably not a realistic option but IMO it'll be more of an issue of our project not being nearly as enticing as other suitors he will have.

No they don't, they used to but they don't anymore, not since the beginning of last season where we had 60-80k at Wembley every week. It is clear as day that ENIC have used the fans as a cash cow to build a property empire that they can flog to the highest bidder. Staggering to me that most of our fanbase still refuse to see this.
