Also, maybe we should start shopping in some leagues other than just England, France & Holland. In the last 3 years we've only bought Foyth outside of those 3 leagues. There is talent galore in Spain, Germany, Portugal, Italy... We're seemingly ignoring all of it. I don't get it, we seem to be connected/identify good targets and then just skip out on them. How much better would it have turned out if bought Under instead of Llorente? I know its different positions but we don't play Llorente anyways, just let the different attacking players rotate at forward. That way we would have another option on the right side who could cut in on his left when Lamela is hurt. Only 13.4mil...
Do you honestly think we don't have scouts setup in those countries?

We've been looking at a number of players including Under, don't ask me why we can't seem to get any deals done with those clubs, maybe we're moved onto alternative targets, maybe they are difficult to do?

Also no one ever mentions this but Under wouldn't have cost us £13.4m as clubs outside the Prem always charge Premier League tax so we'd have to pay more.

I have no doubt we have scouts in those countries, hence why we were looking at the player. Why aren't we pulling the trigger on anyone outside of those countries? Ok, so he costs 15 instead of 13.4, that would have been completely worth it. That kid has easily doubled his value in one season.

He wouldn't have cost us £13.4 or £15m that's the point.

£130m??? lol, more chance of me finding a unicorn up my backside than levy spending that.

should have gone big for de ligt in the summer. got no chance now.....
De Ligt is seen as potentially the best centre back in the world.

Why do you think Ajax would have sold him cheaper in the summer?

Do you think fans know his potential but the club don’t?

I think European players get hyped more than ever these days. Just look at Keita and Fabinho. They were supposed to be world superstars. But where did that hype actually come from. Neither have done it at the highest level on a consistent basis as in CL. Fabinho had one decent season but was in a very good team. The whole FIFA/FM + social media seems to raise players profiles beyond anything they’ve actually achieved. Happening now with de jong and de ligt. Before social media those are the kind of signings you could pick up relatively cheap. But today it is near on impossible to keep any player with the slightest bit of talent secret. Every 14 yr old kid is now a scout. Tbh it must now be an absolute nightmare for clubs scouting systems. I’d guess most teenage FIFA players have a better knowledge of young European talent than most PL managers.

nope he wouldn't have been 'cheaper' but if there was any chance of having a run at him without the big boys stepping in, the summer was the last chance imo, especially given the fact we've done business with ajax before. It's not about the price but the competition for his signature. He'll go to barca now for sure.

So many good points you make here. Kind of makes the case for a DOF. Since we can't eat at the top table then we need to identify players earlier and take risks. I'm against both FDJ and De Ligt in principle and I have not really seen them play. If they are this high profile already then how long are they going to stay at Spurs? If they have a half decent season they are off which sends us back into the TW bollocks.

Better to get a youngster or lower profile player that can grow with us for 4-5 years. I thought that was the model we were doing. Actually, I know we don't know what they are doing but I worry that they don't know what they are doing.

The question of him joining us was always about his career path.

He was seen as top quality with huge potential.

Players like Eriksen might need us to get to their peak level. Seems De Ligt doesn’t and is ready to go straight to an elite team.

Can’t see any basis for us missing an opportunity here.

I've said on numerous occasions that if Foyth was playing every week for Ajax (which he could probably do), people would be going nuts over him. As things stand, he doesn't get a chance with us and ITK has said that he'll look to move on if things stay that way. How monumentally stupid would that be from the club?

Think last year was understandable but he's been hurt thus far. I do hope for him to get plenty of opportunities here coming up with Jans injury.

There's a CM in Argentina whom I didn't want to propose as I want to keep in my team, but I think it will be hard to keep him after this season.
Exequiel Palacios. 19 yr old CM that plays for River, and has already played for the national team twice, being the best player on the pitch.
The videos on youtube don't show completely how good he plays. He's a box to box, but can play anywhere in the middle.
He's very young but exactly what we need

I know about him. Very difficult to do though, as the mega clubs also know about him

Not every player hits it off from the Prem, Ligue 1 and the Eredevisie either... We've completely given up on those leagues.
every new player is a risk, when it comes to Pochettiono's training methods they seem a lot more strenuous than other teams apparently. the trouble is players from Italy and Spain and to be honest most countries outside of the UK are played at a much slower pace, and are much more open.

whenever vids about a player are, put on here, you can see it's just a different ball game. I've not seen or actual fact watch very little football outside of the PL, but see clips of matches and think "how easy did he score that!", saw clips of N'jie, and N'Koudou and was quite excited, but it never happened.

NDombele going by comments on here looks the biz, but if he was something really special when in Ligue2 why was the fee so small. he took his chance when he joined Lyon, but would he get the pace and physicallity of the Prem or to of picked him up from the Ligue2 club like Lyon did, did he have enough in his locker.

it would be great if we could find talent from any league without spending silly money if they don't work, but at the moment to buy a player in the top league for any country in Europe you have to pay silly money, and any team not just us have to consider that if they fail can we get the fee back. trouble is you will only get top money for any player from the top teams RM, Barca, possibly Juve, and the 2 Milan clubs, and PSG, but they won't pay it for a flop, so every player you sign from abroad now days has to be a hit, or a rare talent out of nowhere.
