But those who have "been around forever" tend not to last into their late 30s, with a few obvious high profile exceptions. Playing at the very top for more than 15 years is extremely taxing and a person like a Rooney who won't commit to the lifestyle doesn't last.

They are all "old" footballers even if they might not be as old as we think.
