ITV talking like Belgium's golden generation is finished! I don't think so. They'll be better for this tournament and will be strong contenders as the Euro 16 and the world cup in 2018

Isn't this the first tournament for a lot of these players?

Someone asked JJ, I hope JJ can show us what he is made of and JJ replied "for who next season?"
I'd sell him if we bought Konoplyanka or another LW but under no other circumstances. Poch hasn't even had a look at him yet.

Im not so sure we are even going after Konoplyanka anymore. We havent been linked to him since Poch took over, if I am not mistaken.

Vertonghen was comfortably the best Belgian player this tournament.

Belgium remind me of us under AVB. Big, powerful and talented, but incredibly slow and ponderous. Kompany overplays everything, and whilst he's a fantastically talented player, he isn't a world class defender, no where near. Hazard was just awful. Mertens was even worse. And Lukaku had the chance at the end of the match when he rolled his man and just needed to shoot, but he took another touch and tried to play it across the box. Very poor decision making.

Argentina aren't even that good.

Strange world cup, the "small" nations have been entertaining mostly...

Big name nations have been boring and gash, there isn't a single team that has made me go *wow*

Wilmots kept chopping and changing his line-ups throughout the tournament, which was a mistake in my opinion. Starting Mirallas is fine, but why not start Lukaku too on the back of his quality substitute appearance? Fellaini was absolutely awful against the US, yet he got another full 90 today.

No Di Maria or Aguero for the semifinal is a big blow. Argentina really could've used Pastore, Banega, and Lamela if all fit and in form.

Really disappointed with Belgium today, De Bryune, Fellani and Hazard were awful and why Mirallas got subbed I am just lost for words. Thought Vertonghen and Kompany were fantastic. Looks like the same old suspects for the semis, boring.

Same old? The only team to have got to more than 1 semi in the previous 3 world cups was Germany. Argentina haven't been there for ages.

I've seen criticism of Oscar and now Hazard. The problem is those guys need to be given the ball in the right circumstances and places for them to be effective. The teams they are playing aren't stupid, they don't allow this, plus neither Brazil or Belgium have quick thinking playmakers either to feed them in the odd occasions it is possible.

It's hardly surprising seeing as we had about a third of the Belgian side.

See my post above. Why do you think AVB had such a hard on for Moutinho ? Players like him and Modric are incredibly rare. Players that can see and do incisive things quickly.

We are watching some incredibly good int teams, but hardly any of them have players like that and most are struggling to transition quick and incisively.

TBF to him 4 of their 6 goals came from subs so he did fix his mistakes but the issue is he has been great bring this young team through. Come 2018 they will be strong and no Van Buyten!

Benteke (27)
Hazard (27) ------------------------- Januzaj (23)
Dembele (30)
Tielemans (21) ---- Witsel (29)

LB - Vertonghen (31) -- Kompany (32) - RB

Courtois (26)

It still annoys me that Moutinho was prepared to come to us, but we were either unwilling or unable to pay what was required. For me, that was the difference between champions league qualification, and falling short.

As an aside, as great as this world cup has been, it really does seem as though there is a dearth of genuinely creative and intelligent midfielders about....either that or modern managers don't think there's as much of a need for them.

Really wanted Belgium to progress, for the Spurs boys and a few close Belgian friends here in Amsterdam.

The good thing about Belgium losing is that our contingent don't have to take further risks of injury and can join up for pre-season training earlier.
